Tiger Woods struggles through his second round, battling inconsistent drives and putting issues. Despite a few flashes of brilliance and a hard-fought birdie, he faces a challenging day on the course, struggling to find his rhythm and maintain consistency across the holes.
That's never a good look off the first tee.
Oh my goodness, what a way to start your day for Tiger.
Not a good omen Mark.
An absolutely rude start for sure.
Right here along the first fairway just went by.
Just don't want to miss this short right.
Well he didn't.
How about short left?
This is one he really could hole.
Well this will be his first opportunity for a sand save this week.
He did not find the bunker yesterday.
That was well done there.
He deferred the question about playing on the Champions Tour.
He goes that's a long way away.
Six plus years until that.
He says he's just happy to be playing out here.
He'd love to get this par putt down.
Another hard working par at the first for Tiger Woods.
Two birdies yesterday on the card for Tiger Woods
and both came when missing the fairway.
Should he be on purpose missing fairways?
I don't think so.
It just happened to be that way.
This one had it down the left.
Or because your Tiger Woods take it right at it.
Gorgeous shot.
It's good vibes on this whole birding it yesterday.
You know Carney, you liked the look of the lie.
The look we got of it.
Obviously so did Tiger.
That wasn't so bad.
It could free you up.
Now Tiger right to left down the hill.
For second consecutive birdie here at the second.
Missions are firm but the players are figuring it out.
A little easier to score today.
Tiger at three.
Less than driver.
Just a squeezer down there.
A hole relocated in the back right portion.
That one bisecting the fairway.
That swing looked really good that time.
The rhythm and pace of it.
It is in a low spot here.
Obviously the tee shot very similar height as the actual green.
So down here a little bit of load.
Hard to figure out.
I would say for Joe's sake you better hit the green.
They had it right the whole time.
Extra stuff going on there.
Not going to miss that tomorrow.
This little left to right.
Another good look for a birdie.
Just powered it through the break.
It's right center back up the hill.
In a really in a normal event.
Hit it down there 260 to the bottom of the hill where Bubba did.
Or try to get up on top which takes a 280 yard shot.
That was kind of that little stinger shot there for Tiger.
They decided to hoist it way up in the air.
He'd be just forced to do that off of that lie.
Should be a good look here for Tiger.
Oh wow.
That would have changed his projection from 56th to 52nd.
A little bit at a time.
Instead he stays 56th.
Missed this one with an iron way to the left and led to the really incredible up and down par.
Certainly would like to have a better look today and get this one in the fairway.
280 yards or so to that fairway bunker.
That's all he was looking for.
Just so interesting Mark to see different plays detect the different holes in different ways.
You gotta hit it just a little past the hole.
Very difficult to get this one inside 15 feet.
And back into the fan.
Right all the way.
One over today.
Didn't get much out of yesterday.
Hung in there.
After a bogey certainly would like to go flag hunting.
But this guy's been pretty disciplined in his career.
Quality shot.
Plenty of those fans on Volma Roads.
They got a glimpse of Tiger.
He's past the third fairway, but they know he's over here.
So they're cheering him on on this one.
And a lot of respect.
Past champion here at the Western Open.
Excuse me, the BMW Championship now.
Put on by the Western Golf Association for 121 years.
Down the hill.
Very gentle as you saw.
Another putt in that five foot range that he had to get full attention.
It is exciting.
I'd love to see any of these players hit the big stick.
So left to right into wind.
So close.
Golf instructor, what are you telling your pupils on this one?
Actually just to try and maintain head height.
This is, you know, it's one of those things that when you get in the bunker
because you're standing on the sand and it's very, very easy to lose your footing.
And that one just races over the back of the green there for Tiger Woods.
To the seventh.
Oh, it's like a nine iron, eight iron, some short.
And it just really grabbed a lot quicker than he thought.
A difficulty here, of course, going uphill for the first two feet
and then straightens up and is a little flatter.
Just not getting the pace down at all.
The firmness on the pitch and the pace on that putt.
I don't know what to say.
Yeah, just setting up well left of the green really.
Just going to let the wind do its magic.
Ride the wind with a little high cut.
Pretty looking in the air.
Good swing there.
That tempo was good.
Makes us look silly.
Tiger looked, of course, silly on the last hole.
Let's see if he can back it up here a little left or right down the hill.
Still yet to make a birdie in this second round.
For the entire week is Tiger to clean up his part.
It'll definitely work left there.
It's tough for him to stay at 300.
It's Tiger on the tee at 9.
Remember, he blew it right here yesterday in the bunker.
Had to lay up final hole bogey, but that one, the laser down the left side.
Got past Bubba there.
And slopes right to left pretty good,
but in a little bit of a collection area.
Needs it to spin left hard.
That's a wasted opportunity.
Very nice putt.
It was always high.
Taking the high route.
Which will take place next Friday through Labor Day.
It was a good move there from Tiger Woods.
Good free-flowing motion.
Two really good drives back to back there, Colin.
He hit a full one here.
He's got to feel this one in for 94 yards.
Playing about 80.
Putting him in pretty low.
Looking for one big bounce.
There it is.
Yeah.
360 yards off the tee.
And a well-executed shot for Tiger.
Certainly his best look for birdie today.
Tiger's got a great look here, Mark.
Looked for him to take advantage of this one for sure.
He doesn't let a hole of these go by the wayside here.
Just a little left to right, little bender.
If he's got an extra gear, this is the place to use it.
It looked like he tried to use it.
Needs to keep drawing.
It's hanging out right a little bit.
Yeah, it's good now.
I mean, last three drives he's hit, Colin, they've been pretty good.
Very similar spot that Xander Schauffele was this morning.
He was able to hit it in there about four feet and make birdie this morning.
Tiger lofting it and utilizing some spin.
That much more difficult to hear just three hours later.
A pretty good play from that position.
Tiger for birdie.
Sure learned a little something from Carlos and there we go.
That's a birdie and a birdie from driving it in the fairway.
First one of the week for Tiger Woods.
Flyers over greens.
They don't go as far.
So players have found some interesting spots that they didn't know exist
on some of these golf courses.
And then also we'd use it as certain aiming spots.
Yeah, I've hit my share of the butt things on the back grandstands.
The bunker he stayed short of is 319 to it.
Tiger at 12.
187 from that first cut of rough.
Struggling a little bit.
Plenty of green to work with here on the upslope.
Pretty well done but left with a downhiller now for his par.
It won't stop.
One pretty quick.
Would have paid attention to this as it rolled past the hole.
And that's not bad, but it's not in.
But now going to be one of four and getting the ball up and down.
And even though this ball missed the fairway.
So through a lot of gloves, that's what hot as it is out there.
Just not quite in sync.
This one had plenty of room to release and didn't.
Tapping in for par at the 13th.
Just one birdie for Tiger today.
Sort of a ditch down there at the end of the fairway.
You got to be careful of.
Everyone needs to hang on a little bit.
Just over 320 to the end of the fairway.
Tiger's not in any of the fairway.
This coming out of a pretty thick lie there.
Just two inches off the first cut.
176 yards total.
But ideally just fly 150 to the front.
Kind of kill it like that.
That's going to kill it too much.
They're better there than long though.
Quite a bit.
Yeah.
Way better there.
It looks like it's going to settle there.
Not so bad.
I mean, that's the only thing I could come up why you would do that.
But there's now to at least limit the damage.
And basically with that putt there, he's only made 45 feet of putts.
Through 14 holes today and I hit it over the bunker.
Now Tiger.
Boy, that was more of an aggressive swing for Tiger.
Uh oh.
Hang on.
It's a little late.
It's going to be OK.
He can hit it again.
And you know what?
He's really close to that spot where he hit a pretty famous shot.
He's got a good line.
That famous shot was from the first cut.
So this is a little further to the right.
He's not going to hit anything heroic here.
He's going to fade some to try to hit low and get it down there inside 200 yards.
Pretty well done.
I know guys.
I'm disappointed too.
I was hoping he'd take something with a head cover and just rip it around the corner.
It should be in just a little off to the right.
But these flags behind Tiger head up the left corner.
It was a lot of club.
He was in between seven and eight.
Speed hasn't been great so far today.
Let's see if he can turn it around here.
Well, that's that is going to be another one of those.
As that ball continues to roll into Mark's point.
This one back up the hill.
You know, interesting.
I mean, obviously, this is a very unique year.
And I was just kind of thinking of this by this time of the season.
You know, you've played the Masters.
You've played the U.S. Open.
Well, if you haven't seen any of the golf from earlier this week,
that's been Tiger's week.
Which is round on the front nine yesterday.
He sure is.
And but still just going with the game plan.
I guess the plan was to get it in the fairway.
Keep it short of this bunker.
And that'll do it.
Tiger trying to find something.
Tiger at 17.
174 yards.
And guys, he's looking to pump the brakes on this bogey train.
Pump the brakes on that one, Mark.
Settle.
He's got plenty of great memories.
How about he just practices severe right to lefters all day long?
Because then, you know, he would be below the ball.
That's probably a bad idea.
There you go.
There we go.
We'll see it again tomorrow.
You were seeing it anyways, but it's just my opinion.
Dangerous.
Tiger with the fairway wood.
Big full swing there.
He's kind of watching anxiously to the right.
There's a fairway bunker back there.
OK.
He's not even going to watch.
Got a face full of sand.
Not the shades of the World Golf Championships Mexico Championship bet.
Oh, that one turned hard, right?
Love the golf Chapultepec.
No sweep.
