Hey, what's up guys in preparation for Rome 2 total war what I did is I went back and I played a little bit more
Of the latest total war game that was Shogun 2 total war. So it's been a while since I play this
I jumped right into matchmaking and played a game
So hopefully this will give you an idea of what the total war series is like if you haven't played it and if you have played
It well, then you'll be able to see what my play style is like and how I might make videos in the future
So you can see here. I'm deploying against my enemy. This is kind of a mismatch battle
I am the traditional Japanese army, whereas he has a more European centric army
So if you've seen the last samurai with Tom Cruise, this is kind of what that battle is
Like I am mostly restricted to hand weapons. Whereas my enemy has
more
musket base troops
Anyways, you can see here. His main tactic is to distract me with this large cavalry force and pick off any straggling units
So what I do is I start reforming my line over there on the hill
You can see those are my matchlock units. So I do have two of those, but that's all I have
So he lines up and he's about to face off on these guys
But he's wary because he doesn't want to lose too many cavalry at the same time on the side
What my scouting troops over here have found are his ninjas
So what I realized was his main idea in this battle was to distract me with his large cavalry force and attack me from the side
but with the ninjas ninjas normally can't be seen but I put my
Scouts on the right sides was able to see them. So I go ahead and attack his ninjas, which are his vulnerable troops
He redeploys his cavalry to save them and that allows me to move my forces up. You can see here
He wasn't anticipating this cavalry charge. These are these are my specially upgraded light horses
So I have given them speed and attack bonuses
So they're able to come in here do a lightning strike and then pull out in doing
So I caused his whole cavalry cavalry force to redeploy which allows me to move up as I said
And again, I'm able to do harm to his ninjas, which were the crux of his plan in ambushing me
Now what you can see here is gonna be important later on as I start moving my cavalry up and over on the left
I hide them in the forest. So he's a bit confused what to do with his cavalry
He sees my cavalry on the left moving up. So he moves his main horse body over to the left one more time
I'm moving up my swordsmen and my archers right into the center
And what I do is I recharge with the cavalry on the right because I keep making him ping-pong
His cavalry force back and forth back and forth. And so I strike where he's weakest at this point he gets
Too frustrated with my forces and sends this
One lone cavalry force to chase him down. He didn't know I had additional forces here. So I set up an ambush
He's able to chase those cavalry forces off. But in doing so he has to face my cavalry here
So these are my gunners. They take shots at him. I pretend to retreat and that's all he sees
So he thinks he's got my cavalry
That time I spring my secondary trap where I deploy my forces on the hill and chase after him now
He's smart enough to run away and not engage with these troops as he's running away
I turn my cavalry forces around and they're gonna go ahead and start shooting at his retreating forces
He was about to go and attack these cavalry here, but seeing what I'm doing on this side
He has to remove his forces one more time
So he redeployed so I was able to stop him from attacking my forces on the other side and right here
I feign a charge at the last moment I draw back
So I'm trying to pull as many of his horses over to this side and you'll see why in a little bit
So I'm retreating these horses back as he chases them. He puts them right in the line of fire of my mobile cavalry
You can see here. He's forced to pull back. He didn't see my forces in the woods
That's one of the abilities that you get if you put your forces in the woods and you're not close enough
You can't see them
So he was not able to discover my flanking force over there because I pulled his cavalry back
By feigning this threat over here and you can see here
He can't actually engage with my forces because I've pulled back to the hill where my some of my gunners are lined up
Now that I have all his cavalry on this side
You can see there he's pushing even more of them over here because he doesn't
See my cavalry on the other side
So what I've effectively done is taken out his ninjas injured his horses and forced him to accumulate all his forces on one strength
On one side and here I'm pushing even further trying to draw them out even more
Now this is gonna prove to be fatal so he charges up here he has more forces than I do
But that's fine. I will go ahead and accept the challenge of battle right here
I'll pull up the hill slightly and then I'll charge back down just so I get a little bit of the uphill bonus
So he's not sure whether or not to commit right here because you know in the past I've sprung traps on him
so
It's a little bit of a back and forth there
So with his cavalry distracted what I do is I move my center forces up deploy my archers and my foot soldiers. I know
That his cavalry are distracted and because of that I'm able to spring the trap over here
So he did leave some rear guard here
But not enough and so I'm able to deploy my light cavalry on the side on the left and my heavy cavalry in the center
They're gonna go ahead and smash his forces as they do this
You can see my arrows coming in from the center push
So I time both of these together just as his cavalry forces on the side were distracted and now
What I do is to prevent his cavalry from coming back and assisting his troops. I engage this flank here now
I'm not gonna stay engaged for too long
I don't want to lose my horses
So I engaged long enough to get them pinned down and then I move my cavalry forces back and you can see they're moving my
Support troops here. So as I pull my forces back if he is dumb enough to follow me, I'll shoot him
But of course, this was a good opponent and he did not chase me. So that was smart enough
But I'm able to get some parting shots off as he's going to support his troops now over here
His ninja units here that are still here throwing their small bombs
These are wreaking havoc on my men plus what he's done is he's in it
He's able to set up his forces on the hill
So what he's done is instead of sending in all his forces
He's setting up a perimeter and he's basically shooting up everyone
so I deploy some more cavalry forces in here knock out his ninjas because I know they're gonna be troublesome and then I pull
out all the
Pull out back to my side of the field because I know the more I commit troops
They're gonna be in a death trap from his forces up on the hill and his returning cavalry
So I don't want to get bogged down here and I'm gonna start pulling out my forces slowly
The infantry that are already engaged are pretty much goners. Um, so they're getting overrun, but that's fine
I don't want to over commit so I'm gonna let them hold off
His forces as I retreat now my forces in the center of the map as you'll see do end up collapsing rather
Suddenly and this allows his cavalry forces to go right through the center and start pushing it on my men
I didn't anticipate them crumbling so quickly. And so my first line of archers you can see here are gonna feel the full
Brunt of his cavalry charge, but I pull back
He thinks about chasing these cavalry units, but you'll see in the back. I'm lining up my musket
So if he were to chase me I would shoot them
So my opponent smartly retreats just as he's able to break my unit of archers
So you can see both of us are thinking tactically we're not over engaging and so I was happy to have this battle
And we both disengage and we're gonna reform our troops for the next assault
So what I think I've done well in this battle is I've been able to ambush and pick off his troops here and there with
Minimal losses to myself and before I got too bogged down with his units. I was able to retreat
So right now I've diminished his cavalry forces neutralizes ninja threat
But he still has a lot of strong troops over there and a pretty strong cavalry force compared to my own
I also know that a direct charge with my troops result in a pretty big disaster
Just because of the fact that he outranges me. So what I have to do is set up here
I have my matchlock set up here on either side of this small farmhouse
So they can shoot on either side if he chooses to attack me from either way, they can redeploy
Knowing this what my opponent does is he's gonna try and pull off a pincer movement
So over here he's moving his cavalry to this side trying to pull off some of my forces and on the other side
He's gonna be deploying his his foot soldiers
So I'm wary of this and I'm starting to formulate a plan in my mind
But I don't want to show off what I'm gonna do just yet and you can see here
He gets off some shots and retreats before my archers are able to nail him
so my opponent is using some very effective hit-and-run tactics as
His troops redeploy and move my archers up and I'm able to nail some of his forces now
I don't want to waste all my arrows on his armored troops. I'm gonna put them on the less armored
Matchlock warrior monks here because I know I want to get rid of his strong ranged units
So he's keeping the fire on keeping my archers distracted and he's gonna start engaging his cavalry on the right as you can see
Now this is the first part of his pincer movement. I turn my matchlocks to face around
I retreat and I'm able to get off some shots. Thankfully, you can see on the left
He's also engaging his ninjas, which we're able to sneak up now. He
Basically faces the withering fire of my matchlocks which makes his horses route
At the same time, however, he's moving around the other side with my troops distracted and he's gonna engage the rest of his forces
Now the thing that my opponent did wrong was that he slightly miscalculated the time it would take for these events to occur
So his pincer movement was not simultaneous. He attacked from one side and then the other
I was able to route his cavalry right away and then start redeploying my forces, but you can see here his
Side attack is still effective and he's able to charge in here at my undefended matchlocks and
Start to pick off at my archers
So what I do is I reinforce I desperately throw in my general who's been upgraded with some melee attack
To hold down his forces here. Hold down his cavalry. Keep them from pressing forward
And in the back what I do is I start lining up my archers
They're gonna put shots in at his cavalry and my matchlock
Cavalry on the left spot his flanking ninja force over here
Hold down the right. I know I can't hold up against his elite troops here
So what I'm gonna have to do is take care of his flanking forces
I move my mounted cavalry on the left and on the right. I'm still hailing or hail
Yeah, sending in arrows to knock out his troops
So over here, I'm able to neutralize this flank attack with my forces, but I have to pull out these forces before
These spearmen are able to take them out. So I retreat from there in the center. I'm doing pretty well
The combination of a lot of troops my generals inspiration the archers and now the returning
Cavalry forces and other swordsmen are able to help me turn the tide of the battle
And this was a very close fought battle and I'd like to thank my opponent for engaging me with
Engaging it with me in a novel on a roadway
He didn't choose any cheap cannons or anything that I consider to be a bit cheap in the game
So I was able to defeat him but barely it required me to have all these different strategies
flanking
Taking care of his ninjas and all that
So, you know
This was a close-fought battle is only because I was able to pull out those small moves that I won
So in recap of the battle what first started was his cavalry force
I was able to prevent any losses at the same time
I discovered his ninjas and took out his main strategy that was to distract and then attack me from the side
I was able to then lure most of his cavalry over to the side and dispatch them by pulling his cavalry over to the side
This then allowed me to reduce their number and also it opened up the other flank for an attack
From my light and medium cavalry so you can see here me engaging his forces knocking them out
Now if I hadn't done this before and I'd engaged his troops straight on
I'm pretty sure I would have lost just because he had so many in number
So in here we both get bogged down in a fight, but neither of us is willing to over commit
We redeploy set up our troops and the next stage in the battle is gonna be me trying to keep his forces back
With these matchlock troops here, and I redeploy seeing that my line is pretty thin what he's gonna
Do is attempt a double envelopment now what went wrong from my opponent is the fact that the the two sides did not collide at?
The same time so I was able to put on shots
Direct my matchlocks at one front shoot them up and then redeploy to attack the other side
So that's essentially what happened with the battle. I hope you guys enjoyed this
This is just a taste of what it's gonna be like for Rome to not only how the game plays
But also how I might be doing my commentary, so if you like this type of thing
