After an initial trip last winter to bolt and clean lines, they have returned to finalize these routes and further develop the area's high-quality, solid granite boulders.
Why are we in Puerto Rico? We've actually been to Puerto Rico a couple of times already in the last
few years, especially in an area called Yabucoa, which is in the southeast of the island. The
locals and Josh have been developing a lot of boulders all around Yabucoa. The particularity
of here down in Yabucoa is the rock is incredible. It's very solid granite, sometimes gray, sometimes
black, and it's always super solid and has some very interesting features.
Last winter was my first time in the island and we head right to a tower called Piedra Blanca.
We spent two weeks developing it, bolting a couple lines and cleaning a lot because there's a little
layer of lichen everywhere and we found some amazing line, one along an array on the overhanging side
and on the same array on the other side was a slab with little pebbles on it and it was just
meant to be climbed and amazing for us to find that. Considering a lot of bouldering projects
that we left and those lines on the tower, we left some unfinished business and that's why we're back.
Here we are back in Puerto Rico to climb those lines, hopefully, and develop more. I arrived
all alone a couple days ago because Josh was going to New York City to visit his brother.
I immediately wanted to go to Piedra Blanca so I just geared up and took all the ropes and
crib joes and just went on top of the tower again. It was pretty. It was still here and
everything was almost like the way we left it. She's naked. All the trees here.
There's a lot of trees here and Maria killed them all. Nice, it's just popping.
Just installed the static on the two lines on the left and on the right of the main array.
The bolts were still here which is good news. Next step, sand the rope and clean on the way.
Make sure the slicken is gone and humidity is gone and chuck up the holes and
make it ready to climb it tomorrow. Oh and while I was all alone in the house
for like about two three nights, there was a tower on two outside.
