Humane Society of Society of Tampa Bay has quite an unusual member of their
leadership team, a very local or vocal Quaker parrot. News Channel 8's
Alessandra Young shares his rags to riches story after he was rescued from
a bad situation. Can you say hi? Hi. Meet Georgie. He's around 10 years old
and now calls the Humane Society of Tampa Bay his forever home. And he has
quite a lot of personality that everybody here absolutely loves and
adores. Georgie is one of a kind at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Not only
does he run the show, but he is the first animal they have officially
adopted after fostering. He came to them after being rescued from a hoarding and
abuse situation, and the Humane Society says it's not every day they take in a
parrot. Not very common, not very common. Usually when we get involved with the
county, as far as a neglect or abuse case, it's dogs or cats. He had picked
his feathers out. He was skinny. He just you could tell he did not have good
care, and we don't think he ever left his cage. But he has a rags to riches
story and now waddles around the hallways visiting people and asking for
his favorite treats, popcorn and sun chips. Oh, he's our boss. This is his
floor. I think once he got used to us and how loud we are up here, he realized
we were his people. The once timid and shy bird is now bold and the most vocal
employee at the Humane Society and is officially named director of animal
advocacy. You can find him on their website. He's such a jerk, but just
watching him blossom and feel has just been so heartwarming, and we just love
him to death. He maybe wasn't the most friendly when we first got him, and he
needed some TLC. But then once that's in, we all love him so much. I couldn't
imagine the floor without him. So Georgie has officially been adopted and
calls the Humane Society of Tampa Bay his forever home. He lives here seven
days a week. Yeah, that's right. You like it here, right? Yeah, he lives
here seven days a week and gets constant care in Tampa. I'm Alessandra
Young and Georgie eight on your side. He's got a lot to say. I know it would
be nice to have a pet like that. Georgie would be a problem in the
news. Georgie makes a lot of noise.
