Hello again everybody. Today I'm going to show you a tutorial for Stuart Edge's
marriage proposal card trick. This trick actually uses what's called the brainwave deck. Today I'm
going to show you how to use the brainwave deck and perform this trick and also how to make your
own brainwave deck. So you go up to a spectator and you say name any card in the deck. Let's say
they say the eight of diamonds. Okay I have a blue box but in the blue box there's a red deck.
I'm going to go through all the cards and I'm going to spread through the cards and you said
the eight of diamonds. There's one card in this entire deck that's face up and that's the eight
of diamonds and not only is this the only face up card but your card is the only blue card in
the red deck. How does this work? We have 26 cards that have blue backs and we have 26 cards that
have red backs. The red back cards are the spades and clubs. The blue back cards are the hearts and
diamonds. The cards are not stuck together but there's a rough finish on the cards so when you
spread the cards they don't separate unless you press and apply a little bit of pressure to
separate. The cards are set up behind the first card is the ace of diamonds, behind the second
card is the two of diamonds, the third card is the three of diamonds, then the four of diamonds,
then the five of diamonds, then the six of diamonds, seven of diamonds, all the way through
and I'm applying pressure so I'm able to go all the way through all the cards. Then they go to
the hearts. If I just go through the cards and spread then they don't separate. Same thing on
this side. We have the cards set up with spades then clubs so behind the first card is the ace of
spades, then the two of spades, three of spades, four of spades, five of spades, six of spades, seven of spades
and all the way through and then after the king of spades it goes to the ace of clubs and all the
way through the clubs. So you're going to need to mark the cards so it's easy to spot. So I mark
behind the seven of spades so this is the seven of spades. I mark behind the ace of clubs so this
little mark right over here I colored in the little flower so I know that's the ace of clubs
and then right over here is the seven of clubs. If they say five of clubs I'm going to spread the
cards. I'm going to look for the ace of clubs which is the card in the middle by that mark.
Then I go two, three, four and as I'm getting the fifth card to spread it out there's the five of
clubs. So you need to know which way to take the cards out of the box. You need to make a mark on
the seven, the ace and the seven on both sides so it's easy to locate the card that the spectator
calls out and you need to either buy a brainwave deck or make your own brainwave deck. I'm going
to show you now how to make your own brainwave deck. Okay to make a brainwave deck we want the
cards in perfect condition so I'm using two new decks plus a can of Krylon Matte Finish Spray.
You can buy this online or pick this up at any arts and crafts store. Okay the Krylon Matte Finish
should be sprayed in a well-ventilated area so I'm doing this outside. I've got all the cards
set down with a little bit of double stick tape. We're going to shake this up and we're going to
spray from about 10 to 12 inches a light spray across all the cards. So let's just go straight
across. We're going to spray all the cards and then it takes about I don't know 45 minutes
to an hour before we're ready to use them and that's about it. Now we'll give a little bit
time to dry and we'll put this brainwave deck together. Okay now all the cards are dry. We have
the blue backed ace through king of hearts and the ace through king of diamonds and then over
here we have the red backed reverse king down through ace of spades and then king down through
ace of clubs. We're now going to pair them up. We're going to take the king put it on top of the
ace, the queen on top of the two, jack on top of the three, ten on top of the four and let's just
speed this up. If I spread the cards out these are all red and if I flip the cards over these are all
blue. This would be the ace two three four five six this is the seven right here. So we're going
to mark with pencil. I'm just going to color in the flower on this side and on this side the seven
and then we're going to go eight nine ten jack queen king. This is the ace so we'll color in the
flower or the petals on the ace over here then two three four five six this would be the seven.
We'll color in the petals of the seven on both sides and now we can flip the cards over and do
the same thing on this side. Here are a couple of hints to help prevent you from failing in doing
this trick. Number one you want to remember the order of the suits. So on the red side I have
hearts and diamonds. On the blue side I have clubs and spades. You want to remember the way you put
the cards in the box. So I'm going to put the red side where the red spade is and the blue side where
the back of the blue card is. So any way to help you remember so you don't mess up when you take
the cards out of the box. So now let's say the spectator says the ten of hearts. What you want to
do is you want to lick your fingers. You want a little bit of moisture so you can separate the
cards easily. So you lick your fingers take the cards out and you're now going to look for the
seven of hearts. There's the mark. There's the eight of hearts. The nine of hearts. Now you're
going to spread using the fingers that you just moistened and then very easily you could spread
the cards and there's the ten of hearts. If you have dry fingers and you spread and you try and
separate the cards and you struggle too hard to separate at that point it looks pretty obvious.
Now if you want to buy the Brainwave deck that's fine, but what happens is the cards wear out if
you use them. It doesn't take long before all of a sudden you're spreading the cards and you're
flashing. So the Krylon Matte Finish is great to help restore your Brainwave deck. So I'm going to
be giving away two Brainwave decks in this video. Just leave a comment below. Like the video. Let me
know what you think. I'll be announcing the winners in my next video. Good luck to everybody. That's it.
I'll see you next time.
