Sean Serrano has revealed that a major Denver Nuggets move is
coming as the team is targeting a Hall of Fame player right now
as a ton of Peyton Watson rumors news and reports do lurk
for the Nuggets as it's becoming unclear if they will
retain Peyton Watson, but now they are trying to sign an NBA
Hall of Famer to a veterans minimum deal and this is
perfect for the Denver Nuggets right now, and I think this is
a robbery of a contract and guys, we're going to jump into
all this because there is a lot to go over on the team, but
real quick. I do want to ask that you subscribe to Nuggets
Digest 70% of viewers watching this video right now are
currently unsubscribed. It is completely free. We're on that
road to four K. We're dropping videos every day and we're
having a whole lot of fun while dropping all this content for
you guys, but now guys jumping into the video. There is a lot
to look at on the Denver Nuggets and their free agency because
it's been mainly dictated by Peyton Watson. Obviously,
they've made moves. It's not that they haven't done anything
even recently bringing back Spencer Jones. They've definitely
made a few moves added to the bench. It's been solid on the
margins to a degree, but at the end of the day, they need a big
time move and bring back Peyton Watson would be that, but at
the same time, it doesn't change the difference or the
ability to resign or to sign excuse me one of the best NBA
players over the 2010s who's still damn good. It was
revealed by that I'm told Miami Denver and Cleveland are among
the teams interested in DeMar DeRozan. There is a player out
west that is overlapping with DeRozan as far as interest in
teams. That is Klay Thompson. I'm told the Heat are among
several championship contending teams that are monitoring
Thompson's situation, potentially via trade or buy
out. So because of this right now, we do see the Nuggets.
They are locking in on the idea of DeRozan. Now we can talk
about Klay another time, but right now looking at DeMar
DeRozan, this deal would be absolutely huge for the team.
DeRozan is still a very good player. He's a ball handler
that he can run a floor. He scores with the best of them
great in isolation great in the mid range would fit well with
Jokic because Jokic could get DeRozan to his spots. He can
hit those elbows. He can get to the mid. He can get those cuts
still and overall what it does is it gives DeRozan a chance to
play a little bit more off the ball, which would probably help
him extend his career. DeRozan has been very, very open about
how he wants to be in his prime as long as humanly possible.
Is he in his prime anymore? Well, that's kind of debatable,
but you can't sit here and argue that DeRozan is not still
a good player. I know he's playing for the Sacramento
Kings who were bad last year, but at the end of the day,
DeRozan was still able to perform. Played in 77 games,
31 minutes of action, putting up 18 points, getting three
rebounds, getting four assists, shooting 49% from the field,
getting a steal per game. DeRozan is no elite defender,
but he's not a cone at all. And overall, yeah, the big knock
on his game has always been he can't shoot from behind the
arc. He's had that issue, only shot 32%, but DeRozan fits
them for a few different reasons. The Nuggets have no
on-ball scoring outside of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic.
No one else is gonna do that. So when you get a guy who can
get into the paint and score incredibly well, when he can
get to the mid-range and score incredibly well, he gives a
shot creator that, I mean, there's a good chance he'd
start, but you could let him lead the bench unit. You could
let him be the guy on that bench unit so Jokic and Murray
can sit, and unlike historically over the last
couple of years, the team won't literally fall apart
instantly because that's been the problem ever since, I mean
really 2023, even when the Nuggets won the finals, is
that when Jokic and Murray are both off, the team falls
apart. So you kind of have to stagger their minutes, even
though they're obviously at their best together. So with
DeMar, he gives you the chance to run that bench. Again, he
could still start. He could be the first guy off and then
come back on with three, four minutes left in the first when
Jokic and Murray come off. You could let DeRozan just cook,
let him have the ball. The man is a good facilitator as well.
So you could kind of let him run the show a little bit if
Tyus Jones probably playing a lot of backup point guard, he
can set DeMar up, DeMar can hit his spots, and then all of a
sudden, you could let the man cook. And I think this is the
perfect situation for this team right now. And again, they're
not the only team interested. The Cavs and Miami Heat have
been named as teams with interest. The Cavs and the Heat,
they both lost out on LeBron. I guess the Nuggets in a way, but
they kind of lost out on him a little bit prior to that. But
with LeBron going to the Philadelphia 76ers, now these
teams are scrambling to find someone else. The Cavs signed
DeMar with his own team. And then the Heat, they haven't
really made any other subsequent moves since losing
out on LeBron. DeMar, does he fit with either of these teams
though? Not nearly as much as the Nuggets. If I were DeMar,
I'd go to the Nuggets. Because you look, Giannis and Bam in
the frontcourt, and then DeRozan's your small forward.
That is, you're not going to win anything with that shooting,
or well, lack of shooting. It's just not going to happen. I
don't see how that would happen. So I don't see that
being the move right there, or really having any kind of
actual success at all. Meanwhile, Cleveland, they have
Mobley, who's not consistent. Jared Allen's a non-shooter.
And then also having James Harden and Donovan Mitchell.
It's going to be three guys who need the ball. They all kind
of, I mean, lesser James Harden, but Donovan Mitchell
likes to get inside a good amount. DeRozan's going to
score the mid-range. You already have Mobley and Allen
there. It's not the best fit for them. But when you can get
off the ball, extend your prime, go out there, find your
mid-range shots, find your back cuts, and then get the most
open threes possible. So that percentage will probably kick
up a couple percentages to like 35. All of a sudden, the
Nuggets feel like a great situation where DeRozan can
still play his game a lot running a bench unit, while at
the same time, playing with Jokic and Murray to where
there's a lot less pressure on to score the ball. So he gets
to his spots easier, and it's easier to score the ball that
way. So when he is running with the bench, he's already
warmed up. He's already ready to go. He's got the confidence
in his ability, and you just got to let the man cook like he
has for the last 17 years. To me, it's such a perfect fit.
Obviously, the Raptors are going to be a team that's always
involved. It's just the way it is. DeRozan and the Raptors
were reported to have mutual interests. Not surprising at
all. Obviously, they do. DeRozan is one of the most
iconic Raptors in NBA history, and he's someone who has a ton
of records with them. Overall, it would make some sense for
him to finish out his final years in Toronto, especially as
long as that Kawhi trade goes through, which it will. Overall,
we would see them actually have a chance of winning something
they wouldn't know, but I mean, there's a world where they
could pull it off. So overall, I do see that as a team that
could actually show some interest in DeRozan, but it
feels like it's a little bit less so because the Raptors are
so hung up on can they get Kawhi back. Remember, they traded
DeRozan for Kawhi before. They're going to prioritize
Kawhi here. Now, on top of that, we saw some talk from this
from Sports Illustrated. It was mentioned by Sports Illustrated
that he adds another forward to the rotation when the Nuggets
could instead use another guard. He doesn't quite lift
Denver's ceiling on the defensive end, considering
David Adelman was vocal at the end of last season advocating
for the team to add athleticism, ball handling, and DeRozan
might not be the first name you think of to either of those
things, though he can handle the ball. So if the Nuggets have
had two roster spots to fill before next season, which would
include Peyton Watson, one of their players, DeRozan's
hypothetical spot could be better utilized by a different
player with a different skill set. On the contrary, DeRozan
does offer something the Nuggets in particular could take
interest in leading into next season. A talented player might
be able to come in, who might be willing to come in on a
veteran's minimum deal. The expectation is that he is willing
to come in on a veteran, and at the same time, if we're being
honest, guys, I think he's a way better fit than what Sports
Illustrated said. He can handle the ball. Yeah, he's not a point
guard, but he can handle the ball in a general sense. So
overall, you can kind of let him run the show a little bit.
He's done that before. He did it with the Spurs a good amount,
so he knows how to do that. He's typically been the most
consistent player on every team he's ever been on, so I think,
and I mean, I'm not saying he would be with Denver, but
throughout the past between the Raptors, the Spurs, the Bulls,
the Kings, he's always been their most consistent player
when they've needed him. So at the end of the day, I do think
this deal makes a ton of sense. I would love it to happen, but
I am curious what you guys think about this. Which team
should DeRozan choose? Should he go to the Cavs, should he go to
the Heat, or should he go to the Denver Nuggets? Comment the
letter here. C for Cavs, H for Heat, N for Nuggets. Let me know
