A traveler documents their motorcycle journey to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The trip includes scenic road stops, encounters with locals, and a stay at a shared apartment. The traveler visits a specialized bike shop for maintenance before exploring the city's modern attractions, all as part of a larger expedition from Sweden to Nepal.
I'm in New York.
Okay, speak English?
Good morning all the beautiful people. I hope you're doing well.
Slept like a baby. Taking my stuff down to Zarek and we go towards Riyadh. Let's go.
They're playing so beautifully, the birds out here.
Oh, for the birds. Anyway, let's go to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Everything done, we can just hit the road.
My camel lady. I haven't seen any camels yet though. I hope I will see them somewhere on
the road. Not on the road, on the side of the road, please. Oh, they're so cute.
My god, I want a camel. People were stopping and asking, what are you doing?
Look, I'm taking a picture of me at the camel side.
Now the guy will stop and give me water as well, so kind.
So I have two extra bottles now.
Okay, what kind of music should we listen to? I think we go for acoustic. Let's do that.
So this one was open, so let's fuel her up, even though we have enough.
But you never know when you go on the road, are they going to be closed or anything, so.
Then I will stop in this city and eat something. It was a really good restaurant,
so I will go there, sit there and drink chai and eat some food. I think it's a good idea.
Fuel up her and then let's go, continue.
Okay.
Very good, thank you.
Ah, that was so good, wow. But I'm full. Bread, egg, some salad and stuff. My god, so good.
Ah, I met a really cool Afghani guy in there, super nice. He was translating some conversations
with some guys in there, asking me a lot and said there was tigers around here. I don't know if
that's true. Let's go here. But yeah, the food was delicious, my god. And this, they have the
masala here. I never remember the name of it. Ah, something in K. It's so good, it's so good.
I have 150 kilometers left to Riyadh. It's gonna take me around two hours with some stops,
so maybe around one o'clock I go there and yeah, I will meet a person there.
Speak English? What do you want? What? Speak English?
I'm in the beginning of Riyadh now, but my phone died.
So I need to wait until she starts. I totally forgot to charge her.
So I don't know where I'm going. I'm trying to find some shade,
but it's pretty hard when the sun is in zenith, like on the top of the sky.
So I will see if I can continue a little bit here and see what will happen.
Not sure, not sure. I went the wrong way. I should go this one.
Do like this. I'm still so amazed that Zara can handle this heat.
I mean, the temperature is all right. It's not a problem there. This is the tank.
It's warm. So I'm gonna live in an apartment with some people because I got contacted on
Instagram by a woman who told me like, hey, come to Riyadh and you can stay here in my apartment.
So I was like, yeah, sure. That'd be great. So I'm going to go there and stay there for a
couple of days is the plan. But first we got to find a place. It's like 2.6 kilometers away
and should be all right. It's just outside of Riyadh, not in the center.
3, 2, 1, 0.5. Very good. Very good. Very good. Very good. Very good. Very good. Very good.
Here it should be. Oh, it's a lot of people there. I think this building to the right.
This one. Let's go and have a look. Voila. I'm here. Staying in this apartment.
And it was Irina who reached out from Instagram and she let me stay here. So I'll be here for a
couple of days, resting and working a little bit and stuff. So I'm very, very thankful for that.
Really cool apartment. And this is my room. I live in the forest.
My air conditioner and a lot of clothes hanging everywhere. Like, yeah, that's how it is.
But I'm going to explore a little bit of Riyadh and see a few things here, I guess.
And then I'm going to continue and go to Emirates. That's the plan to go to Emirates
and then catch a ferry from there over to Iran. When I was up in the mountain in Abha, I met Ali.
I was camping with him. And he has a friend here in Riyadh, which offered to help me with my bike
to check everything. So everything is all right. So I'm on my way there now, actually. So that's
very kind. Let's go. And going to the freedom machine is called Ali's shop.
It is 5.43. We still have the oven bins.
I am so impressed by the construction worker who is working here in Riyadh. Like the guys
Irina was staying with, she's working for a construction company. And the guys out there,
they are working their ass off out in this heat. Big respect. So much respect to all of you working
outside in this heat. Wow. Let's see. Not there, the next. Here.
Didididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididididi
Which one should it be? Freedom machine I see there. Freedom. Wow. Hello, shukran, shukran.
Hi, Olli! Okay, that's such a nice shop, eh?
I'm gonna have a little tea here. This shop is so cool.
There you have, of course, the bike running around. Yeah.
Really cool place. And this motorcycle out here, this is my baby.
My baby is right here.
Here. Yeah.
She's gonna get serviced.
This bike is so cool. The Bullet. Hey.
And with the bags as well.
Wow.
Yeah, that's one of my dream bikes, actually. To have one of these ones.
One day, one day.
And then you have a Harley here. Harley Davidson.
So we gotta change some oil, because the oil is really, really bad.
So we're gonna do that.
Spraying the chain, fixing her, getting everything done.
This is so cool. My little baby.
My little baby.
So, yep.
She'll be ready for the road again.
I'm in heaven of bikes. It's not that bad, eh?
So we got the Harley. Check here.
And then you have the Royal Elffield over there.
And then you have an Indian over there.
A lot of things. This is so cool. So cool.
And what year was it?
It's 18. 2018. And Harley Davidson.
Road Glide. CTO.
It is. It is.
I have the coolest Harley Davidson in front of me.
And the Royal Elffield Bullet behind me.
We have some traffic jam here.
Yep.
Pretty bad.
And we changed the oil. The oil filter is all good now.
So it's fixed.
And what else?
They cleaned the chain and, yeah, fixed the proper stuff there.
It's all good.
We were really stuck, yeah.
It got really warm, the motorcycle.
Amazing.
Hey, this is my favorite bike. It's so cool.
Yep, the men came all on.
And there you have him.
Yep. Making the coffee.
Welcome to the boulevard.
I'm in New York.
Yep, this is something different, I can say.
I didn't really think this would exist in Riyadh.
But you have as well the Playland.
A lot of adrenaline there. A lot of carousels.
Okay.
