Video Summary
AI GeneratedA medical resident shares a glimpse into her busy life, balancing clinical duties, continuous learning, and personal well-being. The video covers her daily routines, the transition to residency, the importance of administrative diligence, and her efforts to integrate research and content creation into her professional schedule.
Who is it?
I was thinking that I may want to be doing some research projects now that I'm a resident as well.
Boom! And somebody has their medication.
So I've been filming kind of current videos at the same time and I'm a bit loopy on what's going on.
It just feels like things are getting a bit repetitive.
How many times have you seen me make coffee in this kitchen?
Comment down below if you're sick of me yet.
I actually don't.
I'm fragile.
I don't know if people want an accurate look into days in my life.
This is it guys.
Getting my grapes some milk.
I need to get a milk frother.
Hi friends.
You guys are catching me in the middle of the week because my first two days in clinic were unbelievably busy.
We'll talk about that later.
But I have to head out.
Got to go to the hospital for some teachings today.
We have some virtual classes in the afternoon.
And we're going to be having a pretty intense study week for the next three days because I have a lot to review.
Because I realize there's so much I don't know.
Oh my god, this is crazy.
I literally got the last spike.
Howdy friends.
Okay, we're back.
We're back from our skill session this morning.
It's now, it's almost three.
So I had a half day today where we were practicing a bunch of different nursing skills.
Ear syringing, different kinds of injections, measurements for babies, all that stuff.
And it was super duper helpful.
And I came back home and I thought I would do all these things.
But I just changed into my pajamas and I went to bed for a little bit.
But now it is time to get back to work.
So as you can see, I'm back in my desk.
And I have a couple things that I want to do.
I want to get a lot of admin tasks out of the way.
Now that we are a resident, a big part of that is managing our inbox.
So anytime that there's new results for patients, like blood work, imaging.
If there are questions from other doctors.
Hey, FYI, you should know about this referral.
It gets sent to our inbox.
And I have always been really crazy about emptying my regular emails.
And now I have this other inbox.
So I'm constantly on that.
So that's the first thing that I'm going to do is make sure that this inbox is empty.
And all of my patient needs have been addressed.
See, I check my inbox every single day.
And I cleared it yesterday.
And there's four new ones today.
A lot of these are follow-ups on test results, looking at blood work.
Sometimes we're consulting other specialists.
And we kind of have to coordinate with them.
But especially for more acute concerns.
For example, if I'm sending a patient for an ECG because of chest pain.
We're looking at, you know, urine cultures for a potential UTI.
Those are some things that I'm really, you know, gung-ho about checking right away.
So I'm always on this inbox.
I'm also not over the fact that as a part of this, I get prescription renewal requests.
So patients will go to their pharmacy and tell them that I've run out of X drug and it comes to me to approve.
You know, I'm at the stage in my training where I'm still very, ah, about many things.
So even for something as simple as this, I'm combing the chart, girl.
And I'm making sure that they're on the right dose.
That they're not having any side effects and all of that.
But the fact that, you know, it comes to me and I can prescribe it is so scary.
But, you know, I take it very seriously.
And I don't want to be a person that messes up something like this.
So we want to make sure that they are approved.
And somebody has their medication.
Alright guys, I'm feeling very, ah!
You know what I mean?
So that can only mean one thing.
It's time to get some movement in.
I did a little bit of walking when I went to the cafe earlier to do some work.
But now I feel like I need to have a little bit of a workout so I can kickstart a productive evening.
The really great thing about MenuPlace is that there is a gym upstairs, which is really great.
I haven't used it that much, but it's less busy.
And hopefully it gives me a better opportunity to film my workout and take you guys along with me.
And then afterwards, I really want to clean this apartment because it's never been messier than it is right now.
You can see that I have clothes literally everywhere.
I have more clothes over there that need to be folded.
I need to cook dinner.
Ah!
Okay, I need to get my life together this evening.
But before that, let me do a little bit of an OOTD.
So here is my outfit for my quick little gym session.
I have this top over here from White Fox.
This sports bra is from Garage.
And these shorts are from the Nike that I got in China.
So we're going to be active and we're going to get a lot done.
Woo! We're going to do it together.
I think it's time for a reset this evening.
Aaron's cycling bibs from the tailor because he fell off of his bike and ripped a big hole in it.
We needed to get it repaired.
Not bad, eh?
Can you even see it?
Oh well, yeah, it's a huge patch.
One good thing about living alone is that
I am a lot more motivated to clean because
I made the mess and nobody else is going to clean it.
So unfortunately, I didn't take you guys along with me
but I had another very busy day in clinic today
and the interesting thing about residency is that I'm learning
less and less from sit-down didactic lectures
and more so from the clinical encounters with the patients themselves.
With this, there's just so much bedside teaching, which I love
but there isn't really an organized way for me to put everything together.
Sometimes, like today, people are really nice and they print out resources for me
but I am an iPad girl through and through.
It's nice having these as reference
but I don't like having newspaper around because it's hard to review.
So this evening, I'm going to be transferring everything onto my iPad
where I can keep everything organized in one place and actually annotate it.
As you saw last night, I was reviewing the hormone replacement therapy
which was super duper helpful because menopause was the big theme of clinic once again today.
This really made me realize that I have to lock in even further
and really understand all of the dosing and equivalencies of hormone replacement
so that is what I will be doing today.
And we're bringing out my favorite, my trusted iPad
but we cannot talk about the iPad without also talking about my screen protector
which brings me to today's part of the video that is kindly in partnership with Paperlike.
I have been using Paperlike since my undergrad days.
I've had it for so long that I barely remember what writing on plain glass feels like.
Actually, when I was replacing my Paperlike screen protector once,
I tried writing directly on the glass and it felt so slippery and weird
that I immediately went right back.
Paperlike adds a paper feel texture that gives my pencil just enough resistance
to feel more like I'm writing in a notebook.
And so even though I don't want to write on actual paper,
I want my iPad to feel like I'm writing on paper.
Now that I'm spending so much time annotating all of these guidelines and taking notes,
it gives me more control, keeps my handwriting legible,
and makes all of my longer study sessions much more comfortable.
And now that it's back to school season, if you're planning on taking digital notes this year,
this is one of those smaller upgrades that actually makes such a big difference.
If you want to try Paperlike for yourself, scan the QR on the screen here
or click the link in the description below.
And with that being said, it is now time to review some hormone therapy.
Hi everyone, look who it is!
Me!
Today we're making how many cookies?
Like a hundred?
No.
We're already making 50 of the chocolate.
Maybe 50 of the pume.
150?
And 50 of the matcha.
And 50 times 3 is...
150!
We're making 150 cookies for a 3-year-old.
What?
A 3-year-old's birthday party.
He's...
I thought it was 3.
He's 1!
For a 1-year-old.
The 1-year-old cannot even eat said cookies, but it will be for all of the guests.
And us.
We're making crinkle cookies.
We have a thing where we think that everything is from the Philippines.
Our mom used to say that...
Crinkle cookies are, though.
Are they, though?
Yeah.
It's from Minnesota.
Really?
I took the battery out.
There's nothing else.
Oh, it's like a little carton.
Oh!
Okay, you guys.
Look at this.
Is this all done?
Nope.
I don't know what's in here.
That's only flour.
Now we need baking powder and salt.
Okay.
That and then baking powder.
I didn't bring salt.
What's 3...
3, 4...
D's in there?
Times 2.
Just this.
You know?
Okay.
It's not just like that, guys.
I don't know.
I feel like it's going to be...
It's already falling off.
That's what I mean.
It's because the bowl is really wide.
It's so thick.
Did I mess up the recipe?
No, it's good.
Okay.
We have bad lighting here.
It looks a little bit more purple in real life.
I just do this over and...
Is there a tray under this?
Oh, yeah.
I have a hack.
Granulated sugar first and then powdered sugar after.
Hi, everyone.
Morning.
It's Friday.
And today we're having a work from home day.
And the first thing that I am doing is, once again, I am clearing this inbox.
I have some labs to review, some prescriptions to renew, and I also have to call a patient
to kind of just talk about their medications.
A really cool feature with the electronic medical record system that we have is that
there's an option to call from our phone and automatically block the number.
But I feel like I never answer blocked number calls.
So a lot of people don't answer, but I totally get it because I would do the same.
But we're going to try and give them a call so I can get this prescription to them.
Hi, everybody.
It's a little bit later into the afternoon and now we're doing my favorite thing,
which is just roaming around the streets looking for a cafe to work in.
I've already passed a few good options, which is great, but I'm trying to find a place that
isn't too, too busy so I could show you guys kind of what I'm working on.
So to continue my work from home, the interesting thing is I'm still trying to wrap my head
around how, you know, I want to organize things in residency.
Obviously, my priority is my clinical skills and making sure that I'm a good resident
for my patients.
But I still want to be involved in kind of like extracurriculars and the academic side
of things.
I did quite like research when I was doing it in undergrad and in med school, and I was
thinking that I may want to be doing some research projects now that I'm a resident
as well.
And so I've been speaking to different residents and different doctors to see if there's any
projects that I can assist in, and I found two.
So that's really exciting.
So today I'm going to be kind of reading through what's already been done, reading through
the project proposal, and seeing what I can do to contribute.
I think the difference with my research here versus what I did in med and in undergrad
is that it's going to be a lot more tailored to, I guess, patient care and, you know, coming
up with things that can really improve clinical practice, which is really exciting because
you can address things from both the academic side, but also kind of like the clinical patient
encounter side.
So I'm going to hunker down in one of the cafes and go through these projects and kind
of get started seeing how I can contribute.
Okay, so that's pretty much everything.
I finished my research edits here in the park, which is great.
I didn't think that I was going to be able to get all of that done, but I did, which
I love.
And now I'm going to be editing the video that you guys will be seeing at some point.
I'm trying to upload more consistently on Sundays, so that means a lot of editing, and
I'm going to spend the rest of my evening or late afternoon in the park to do so.
That's everything for this study week.
Thank you guys so, so much for watching, and I will see you in the next one.
