And in a restaurant or cafe, we usually call a clerk to order or to pay.
So, you can also use すみません to call a clerk.
すみません。
And actually, there is one more meaning of すみません, which is thank you.
In this situation, we use すみません as thank you.
Like in the elevator, and someone says after you.
In Japanese, it's どうぞ。
And then, Japanese people would say すみません。
ありがとうございます。
So, in Japan, you might hear すみません so many times.
All right.
Next.

My name is Ninja.
忍者です。
So, you can put your name.

Japanese people don't understand bill.
There is a funny story.
One of my friends told me this one.
She wanted a bill.
So she said Bill おねがいします.
And then the clerk gave her, guess what?
It's beer.
Because beer in Japanese is ビール.
And what she said was bill.
