Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe creator showcases his handcrafted 2026 bow hunting bow, a 64-inch fire-hardened hickory self-bow. Drawing 52 lbs at 27 inches, the bow is designed for speed and snappiness. The video demonstrates the bow's performance with 520-grain arrows and discusses the final finishing steps, including staining and sealing, before the upcoming deer season.
all righty i know it's been a while since i put a video out but i wanted to go over my 2026 bow
hunting bow that i've been working on i'm trying to get one that was a little snappier this bow
here i'm not sure i'm going to throw it on the scale and show you guys i'm not sure i've been
doing a lot of sanding to it so i'm not sure exactly what it is it's probably around 51
it's 64 inches
like i said i think it's drawing uh 51 to 52 pounds at 27 it's a hickory fire hardened self
bow it's got about uh about three quarters of an inch back set then when i shoot it for a while it
seems to lose some back set and takes about three quarters of an inch strength followed then
i don't know a few hours it goes back to a half inch to three quarters back there i'm going to
put this thing on the scale let you all see the poundage and i'm going to shoot it a few times
let you see the speed this bow is pretty snappy i'm going to be shooting i think it's a 520 grain
arrow i've got 200 grains on the front so i'm gonna go in here and set up and get the scale set
up put this thing on the scale draw it let you guys see the poundage and i'm gonna come back
out here and shoot it see what it does it's pretty snappy i built another one i tried to get more
back set on it and i stuck it on the jig and tried to heat it with a heat gun and i end up cracking
the limb right below the fade so that's pretty much this one i'm just going to let it ride and
stay it seems to be pretty snappy i like it it shoots fast this is going to be the bow i hunt
with this year i'm going to stain it with ebony stain and i'm going to go over it with a exterior
polyurethane and i'll show you all that whenever i get all that done i still got a good bit of
put the leather grip on i got my nocks i was working on my nocks i got them
pretty close that's the top nock there it's kind of rounded off and the bottom nock it's
it's kind of more flatter because it sits on the ground most of the time i didn't really want to
put a point on it but you can see that so i'm going to cut the camera off and go in here and
put this thing up there and uh see how many pounds we're pulling stay tuned all right guys i got the
bow up on the scale on the uh tillering tree got a hook to the scale we'll turn the scale on
draw it down to 27 inches and we'll see what the pounds are
get the excuse the squeakiness because my pulley needs a little bit of oil here we go
so
he's pulling right at 52 pounds i put my glasses on to make sure that you can see the pounds
52 pounds at 27. all right i'm going to uh move the camera back over here to the target
and i'm going to sling this 520 grain arrow 10 grain per pound out here about uh probably 10
to 12 yards and see how much speed we got out of this bow so hang on all right guys we got a
cardboard deer out here at about 10 yards we're going to sling a couple arrows at it let's see
the speed of the bow and we'll uh check the uh back set which will probably be just a little bit
of string follow probably i don't know be there exactly for this bow or not i pretty much i really
just got finished building it i've been shooting it a while to make sure that the uh tiller stays
before i finish it out pretty quick yeah it's about four inches in yard
one more time and we'll check the uh back set all righty guys here's my new bow
shooting pretty quick i'm going to unstring it see if it's got a lot of string follow which i
know it don't it's probably a half inch maybe then it'll go back to half inch back set
i mean it's got about a half inch of string follow then give it about an hour or two then
it'll go back to uh uh half inch back overall i'm not gonna i was gonna try to reheat the limbs and
get some more back set in it but i think it's fast enough where
i'm not gonna pull it i'm just gonna finish it out and use it
but really i mean i can see it's come back it's come back a good bit already
yeah i think this would be my bow 52 pounds at 27 64 inch uh long bow see we can't get a
buck with this bow so when i get this thing i might uh make a video on finishing it because
i don't i haven't done one of those yet i'm going to get it sanded down then i'm going to stain it
and put some poly on it so i might do a video on staining it and get it finished
i have a hard time getting these fire hardened hickory bows to take stain on the
back i've almost tempted half the time just to take brown spray paint and spray it spray paint
it but it doesn't look as good so if you like this video i know i haven't put one out for a minute
the last ones i put out i think i was chasing turkey birds got a few months before deer season
comes in i'm gonna try to get this bow dialed in and maybe i might bear shaft these arrows
because these are kind of short arrows i'm not sure the length but they're 520 grains
400 fine with 200 grains on the front i might play around with some 500s
or we'll see i'll see but uh if you're watching outdoors little nicky
like and subscribe and stay tuned for some more archery traditional archery that is
