Come decorate our foyer with me as we begin transitioning our home for fall! Today I’m sharing our foyer trim updates and creating a warmer, grander look with traditional décor, beautiful rugs, gold accents, lanterns, greenery, and touches of autumn. 🍂
This fall foyer transformation is just beginning, and I’m loving the mix of moody, traditional, rustic elegance we’re creating!
The creator begins a \"moody traditional\" fall transformation of her foyer, focusing on a blend of rustic elegance and eclectic styles. The process involves structural updates like painting and trim work, alongside strategic furniture placement and the addition of gold accents and traditional rugs to create a cozy, elevated welcoming space.
Hi friends! Happy Wednesday. Thanks for joining me. Well, today marks the beginning of a beautiful
transformation here in the foyer as I start layering in a more moody traditional look for fall.
Today I will also be sharing the progress we've made with the paint, the trim work around the
front door, and the columns. And although we aren't finished, I will share the progress we have made.
I already feel like the difference it has made is absolutely incredible. It has really transformed
the feel, the vibe of the foyer. I'm going to be bringing in a more traditional looking
area rug and runner for the front door, which will literally hopefully pull the look all together.
So behind me I have two mirrors and two shutter panels. I have already taken the liberty of
raising them because I wanted the foyer to feel more grand and substantial, and it was a game
changer. I'm so glad I did it. I will also be bringing in some gold accents because the gold
with the black just pops, so that's coming. I will also be bringing in my Ashley Furniture
cabinet that I had in my basement. Again, I'm trying to bring in a more traditional vibe,
so I think it's really going to feel cozy and homey for fall, but a little bit more elevated.
If all goes well, I'm also going to share some lanterns with you that I plan to suspend
from my pergola here in the foyer for fall. I'm going to vary these lanterns at different heights
with candles, and I think it's going to be really pretty. And you won't believe what I did. You guys
may remember my 8-foot olive tree that I purchased from Amazon. It was sitting over here in the
corner, and although I really wanted that tree to work out, it was far too big for the space. It was
kind of getting in the way of the front door just a little bit. I was looking at my pergola, and it
just gave me an idea. It was like a light bulb went off, and I thought, where am I going to put this
olive tree? Where's it going to go? And I could not find a place for it in the house. I did find
one place, but I decided against it. So I thought, what? What if I take the branches off my olive tree
and use them up on my pergola? So again, this is the beginning stages of fall. I'm not going full
out fall just yet because I still need to gather items. Otherwise, I would. But today is setting the
stage for fall. And ultimately, my goal is to create a space filled with moody, traditional,
rustic elegance because that is so my vibe. Mixing different decorating styles for a collected,
eclectic look that feels like it has, I don't know, evolved over time. And again, just remember
beginning stages. It's not going to be the full look that you will see here shortly. So to begin,
let me share the progress, and then we're going to jump into the decorating portion.
Let's go. Well, it's Saturday morning. Just got back from Lowe's. Don't mind me.
I am rolling up my sleeves, and I am getting ready to paint. So I'll see you back here in a few.
Cheers!
So, okay, we have a rainy day today, so it's a bit dark in here even though I have the lighting
on. You can see automatically where I left off was I went a little bit up here, and I decided
to take it up higher. Yes, ideally, we should have gone all the way up, but I think this works.
Okay, so right here, you can see where I have crammed all my furniture and decor pieces,
sort of over here to get it out of the way, and this is what we came up with. Rather than taking
the trim work all the way up because we didn't have scaffolding, we decided to leave it there
and then add some beefy trim work up top, and it really works. We bought a black face plate.
We just haven't had a chance to install it, but you can see it will blend with the wall.
Now, moving over here, okay, so right here, we're not done with the columns. We're going to be
adding pieces that go across on all four sides, so it's going to look a lot more substantial,
but this is what we have so far, and I love it. Now, moving over here, we have the pergola,
and I took my branches. This is not done by any means. It was me playing the other day,
and I just kind of sat the branches up there, but these branches are what go to my big, huge,
eight-foot olive tree, and I plan to suspend gold lanterns from the top of this with candles,
like the flickering handles that have a remote, and wait till you see what I have coming for fall.
I left the wispy grapevine up there, and I just laid the branches up there,
but again, this is going to transform into something very beautiful for fall.
Okay, so before, I had a bench down here, so all of this was down further,
so anyway, this did not look good. It needed to be raised up closer to the pergola,
so once I did that, I'm like, oh my gosh, what am I going to put there? I don't have anything,
so I ran down to the basement, and I'm like, bingo, Ashley Furniture Cabinet, so I'm going
to be pulling that in here. We're going to be bringing in some lamps. I got a new area rug
for here, which I love, and we're going to add some club chairs and a lamp. It's similar,
but different, and then I'm leaving that there just because I love it, so if you didn't catch
last Wednesday's video, I did a collab with Desert DIY Corey, and we had so much fun. We went to
Goodwill. We found some decor items that we wanted to thrift and flip into high-end fall
decor pieces, and I had a blast. If you haven't been to her channel, I'm going to link her below.
Please go check her out and subscribe. She's amazing, but I still cannot get over that I
found this table for $14.99 at Goodwill. What a steal of a deal, and honestly, I just love this
autumnal look here in the foyer. I'm probably going to raise the mirror up a little bit, but
I just love it. So before I bring in the cabinet, I just want to share I got these
big gold candle sconces on Amazon. I have noticed over the weekend I've been adding little pops of
gold and brass here and there, and it's definitely giving the house a different vibe, which I love,
so you'll be seeing more of this popping here and there around my house, but in any case,
I'm going to hang these by the front door. Doesn't that look good on the black? I love it.
I also got some new gold sconces that are going to go there.
See, I just love it. I just love the gold with the black.
And again, imagine this black. So now I'm going to step back and go get my cabinet
and push it into place. Always say, let there be light. I'm going to go grab some lamps.
So these are the two lamps I'm going to be using. I love the detail on the lamps, so although I do
have dark pieces in here, this might be nice to sort of lighten it up. I don't know. You guys let
me know. Okay, so that's what it looks like. A little bit more of a traditional vibe, and we're
sort of lightening up the palette, but we're going to be grounding it with a dark rug, which you'll
see in a second. Okay, so the reason I like shutters, I will always love shutters. You can
add a candle sconce. You can add a wreath. You can add pictures. You can do all kinds of things
with them. To me, it's no different than artwork. And so anyway, now I'm going to add a little
early fall texture with these wildflower wreaths.
So now I'm going to go grab my club chairs, and they are going to go one there, one there,
and that will sort of conceal, like seeing the shutter hanging there. You'll see.
One thing I want is for my foyer to feel cozy and welcoming. I don't want someone to walk
through my front door and feel that it's so prim and proper, and they don't feel at ease. You know
what I mean? When someone comes through my door, I want them to feel like they can come on in,
sit down, take their shoes off if they wish, and come on in.
One thing I don't do, I don't do traditional foyers. I just don't. So with that said,
now I'm bringing in a floor lamp. So I love this lamp. And again, this is probably not
something you would see in someone's foyer, but it's going to be a mine. Okay, so as we
come right here, there's this white wall space here. It needs a little something there.
Rustic elegance. I just love adding rustic with elegant. I like to layer items. To me,
it just gives things visual interest. It draws your eyes up. So let me go get my mirror.
I'm adding yet another mirror. So you see, it added some interest. It has brown in it,
so it kind of ties in with these wreaths. I just like it. Okay, so now before I do any decorating,
we need to ground the space and make it feel like it all works together. Because we have a
lot of dark going on, we need to ground it with another dark piece. So I got a new rug and I love
it. So do you see what that has done? It's definitely grounded the space. It's brought
the black together and the black that's over here. And it's a more traditional rug. The way
I got this on Amazon, huge, huge plus. You can actually vacuum all on it. It doesn't even come
up. It doesn't get stuck in the vacuum. It's amazing. When you get it, there's no wrinkles.
And same with that one. These love. Hopefully, you can see the pattern
with the dark and it's just very pretty, very grounding.
Okay, now let's decorate the top. It's going to be very simple because
so whatever I do up top in the next few weeks, it's going to like intertwine down here
onto the top of the cabinets. But like right now, we're keeping it simple because we have
a lot of lighter colors. We're going to bring in some darkness to the top of the cabinet.
Okay, so I'm bringing in a rustic touch. I'm going to put one of these little pumpkins here. I like
it because it kind of goes with this vibe. And then I have a smaller one I'm going to place right
here. So what I probably will do if I keep that look there, I'll bring in some fall florals and
sort of intertwine it right here. I was going to try to get some really fancy gold lanterns.
But my goodness, some of them were like $79 plus. And I'm just like, you guys know me,
I'm a bargain shopper. I try to always find a different route. So anyway, I was on Amazon.
These lanterns come like this. And then you go like this. I'll show you what it looks like put together.
They're really easy to put together. They have little feet at the bottom. Right here is going
to be the round saucer where you would put your candle. And then you have a little doodad
at the top. I'll show you. Okay, so this right here screws right here onto the top.
Easy, easy. Just like that. Then you take this little piece and you just screw this on.
So anyway, it looks just like this. So what I'm going to do is get some LED
flameless flickering candles that come with remotes. I'm going to set the candles in here.
I'm going to hang these by chains from my pergola. So you're going to see different gold ones at
different heights with candles. Then imagine the ball floral sort of cascading. I may throw up
fairy lights up there too. So it's going to be a whole thing. It's going to be a whole vibe.
I don't know if I got the larger. Maybe this is the large. Maybe this is the small. I don't know.
But nonetheless, imagine these at different heights and glowing at night. It also came with
two other pieces. So I guess you can sort of change up the look should you want to. I don't know.
I'll have to go look at the picture, but bonus. So anyway, in closing today, I hope I inspired you
to perhaps look at an area in your house a little differently. Maybe you raise something up. Maybe
perhaps mix and match some styles that you normally wouldn't. Take something you already
have and reinvent the wheel. Sometimes the most beautiful spaces are the ones that evolve slowly
little by little. Now remember, we're just beginning the foyer ball transformation. I have
so many ideas of where I want to take this space next. Think moody, traditional, rustic elegance.
