A professional gold trader from Nakuru shares her five-year journey, emphasizing a disciplined, top-down technical approach. She advocates for simplicity, strict risk management, and rigorous journaling to achieve consistency, specifically focusing on the Asia session and the psychological fortitude required to avoid emotional trading.
She's a gold trader, a gold trader, in fact. She only trades during the Asia session. And without further ado, please introduce yourself.
So, my name is uh, and uh, I trade gold. Wow. That's amazing. For how long have you been trading? I've been trading for 5 years. Oh, interesting.
Now, an interesting fact about her is that she comes all the way from Nakuru. There's a comment saying that Nakuru has traders—why don't you interview them?
So, my friend introduced me to her, and of course, my people from Nakuru feel represented. Shout out to your people.
Uh, I don't know many traders from Nakuru, but wherever you all are, I hope I represent all of you, and I also hope that you give others from Nakuru a chance to come and visit your show.
Okay, interesting. When was the first time you heard about trading, and what did you think about trading back then before you started?
Okay. So, ideally, I was introduced to trading by a friend, and I thought it wasn't that difficult. Yeah, because on the very first day I got into trading, I deposited cash.
Uh, I made a profit of 65,000 Kenyan shillings. Day one? Yes. Day one. Using someone else's signals. No way. Yes. Wow. Okay. Interesting.
So, I thought every day was going to be like that. Yes. Yeah. And then later you got in and realized it's very different. Oh, I had a rude awakening. Yeah. Okay. Now, what were you doing before you got into trading?
I would say that if God has placed something in you, it means it is very much achievable.
Yeah. Well, amazing. Now, let's talk about the way you trade. Mm hmm. Tell us, what do you look for in the market, in the gold market? Okay, so the first thing would be for me to wait for a higher time frame area of interest to get mitigated.
Understand, and it only takes you about a week or two of consistently seeing it, and it never leaves your mind. Okay. So,
Literally, you just see it happening and you take the trade. I've talked to many people on the podcast, and I think one of the things that stand out is having
Simple strategy. Why is that? Why do you think it's important to, you know, just have something that is very simple as a trader? I think um as a trader,
Trader, I've met many people who have extremely complicated strategies, and the very complexity of the strategy ends up undermining your confidence.
whatever you're doing. So, you'll always end up looking for other reasons to justify your trades. For me, that doesn't make sense.
Whole loop. So, I'd rather just have something simple that works. It works. That's what I do every day. It works. I don't need to add anything else or remove anything.
Anything else? We still have beginners who are trying so hard to understand our strategy, trying so hard to, you know, pick the strategy and stick to it.
Today, they trade trend lines. It works. Then tomorrow, they're like, no, it's not working. Let me go back and trade SMC. Then after a while, they just, you know,
skipping or switching from one strategy to another. How would you advise them? I would tell them that every published strategy works. Every strategy works. I've tried them all.
them work. It's just that you're not confident in it and you're not willing to give it time, because also something I've noticed is that what I trade also has a different name in a different
Strategy. So, you'll find that all the strategies have something in common, but no strategy is 100% accurate. Yeah, so all of them work. Just stick to one.
Interesting. Yeah. I think I would also add something and say that whenever you decide to stick to one strategy, it's the reputation—it's the constant consistency in applying that strategy. That's how you're actually able to achieve results.
understand and see it clearly, because when you try working on one strategy and then at some point you feel like you have it, the next time you move on to another strategy, ideally, you are starting again from
Is that how you do it?
I force myself, yes. If I feel that I'm going to interfere with that trade, I'm going to close that laptop, I'm going to switch off that phone, I'm going to do something different.
Do you keep a journal of your trades?
Yes, I do keep a journal of my trades.
Take us through the process you follow to journal your trades.
Okay, so I use an AI called Notion, and actually we do this with my team, which is so nice because we take accountability for each other.
If another friend of mine sees that I haven't journaled my trades, they'll be like, "Hey Angie, what's up? Did you take a trade today? You need to journal your trade—we want to see what you did."
My friends are going to see that I took five trades in a day because I want to be honest with myself as well. I can't just lie in the journal.
So, I use an AI-powered platform called Notion. It gives you a workspace where you can create whatever you want to create.
So, the pair you traded, the session you traded, the risk-to-reward ratio—you get to add all those fields.
And at the end of the day, I have to journal, and I have to ask myself: did I exit the market with a profit? Did I exit the market with a loss?
If it was a loss, what did I do wrong? If it was a win, what did I do right? Is it possible for me to do that over and over and over again?
If I exited at breakeven, what happened? If I discover that I've experienced a consistent streak of losses, I always make an effort to stay away from the market.
I punish myself as well. So, if I break my rules, I punish myself for it.
Interesting. Do you journal your emotions?
No.
Really? You don't?
I don't have emotions.
No, not that kind of emotion. Sometimes I think it's important for a trader to actually write down how they're feeling before entering the market.
Are you confident enough? Maybe there's some news coming up. Do you have any fear? Are you confident in the setup? Are you happy? Are you sad? Is something troubling you?
That's the thing. I don't have emotions.
You don't?
I don't.
How? You don't feel stress?
The answer is quite simple: risk-to-reward ratio.
Okay.
This is what I usually tell all my students. I only risk 5% of my account.
Most people will think I'm ridiculous because for a $1,000 account, I'd only risk $50 or $60.
But it makes sense to me because if I enter a trade and place a stop loss of $60 on a $1,000 account, is there anything to worry about?
No.
So, when I'm aiming for something like $300 and I'm risking $65, it's nothing for me to worry about.
Okay.
That's why I don't have emotions.
Interesting. I just look at it from the perspective that there are many things happening in your life—aside from trading itself—that can directly or indirectly influence how you trade and how you perceive the market.
For example, you might be going through a breakup. Don't you think that would affect your setup?
It's been so long I can't even remember.
Alright, you might be going through, how should I put it, a disagreement with your brother or with a friend.
Do you think that might affect the way you perceive the market? I don't know.
If it were me three years ago, yeah. But nowadays, no.
I think the most important thing for me is having that checklist.
Okay. Interesting.
So, the way I've walked you through my higher time frame analysis, I'm confident that I entered this trade with a lot of assurance.
I'm not going to interfere with that deal.
So, no matter what I do outside my trading life, it won't affect my trading because I wake up every day and look for the same things.
I do the same things every single day.
So, unless something major has happened in my life—which hasn't occurred in a long time, and I thank God for it, because it's very rare—
It might possibly affect me, but so far nothing of the sort has occurred.
Okay. Interesting.
Do you see yourself ever changing the way you trade, or is that what you're going to stick to and end up with for the rest of your life?
I think it's probably death.
Oh, death will do you a favor.
Death will do me a favor.
Okay.
Yeah.
Alright. Now, let's discuss scaling up as a trader.
I think most traders literally make money, but at some point they get stuck.
They're just, yeah, you're making money, you're getting by okay, but it's really, really hard to scale up.
Most people now decide to try scaling up, perhaps through prop firms.
Others decide and simply compound their earnings gradually, which can take time.
Which one do you prefer?
I probably prefer prop firms, but they require a lot of discipline.
A lot, a great deal of discipline.
Yeah. Have you tried that?
Yes, I have.
Okay.
Yeah, so I just decided to go back to Personal Capital.
Yes, because that is something I have already mastered.
So, probably this other one, I don't know, but this other one works for me, so I do it.
Wow. Amazing.
Yeah.

Now, let's get back to today's conversation.
So guys, we've reached the point where we break into the charts. We dive into the charts.
We see how she perceives the market, her mindset while she is on the market.
What are some of the things she's looking for that we should be aware of?
And yeah, so let's get into it. Show us how you do this thing?
Okay, so it's as simple as A, B, C, D.
As I tell all my students, I begin analyzing the markets from a monthly timeframe.
But for today, we are going to start on the weekly timeframe.
So we can clearly see that the market is bearish because we can see a lower high, lower low, lower high, and another lower low.
So we switch to the daily time frame.
The daily timeframe will always, always, always be in line with the weekly timeframe.
So we see the same thing.
So now I want us to look at a trade I took.
And this is the analysis I conducted.
So this is the four-hour timeframe.
On the four-hour timeframe, it's clear that we are still in a bearish trend.
And sorry, I'm just expanding the charts a bit.
So I will mark all these areas of interest, the order blocks, everything relevant to me.
For me, this is one of them.
And if you look closely, you'll see that the price tapped us and then rejected.
For me, this is something very valid.
And I usually tell people to check where the market came from.
That's how you know where the market is headed.
So for favourable, when I take a trade from here, I am going to exit the trade all the way down here.
So that's if you're swing trading.
But if you're afraid of swing trading, what you can do is take partial profits along the way or close your trades.
So let's drop down to the lower timeframe and see what I see from an entry.
Because I don't take my entries from the higher timeframe.
I only use the higher timeframe to see where price could potentially reject from.
So now this is the four-hour order block.
Clearly, we can see that the order block was formed as a result of the sweep that occurred.
So now Price has given us; let me drop down to the five-minute timeframe.
I don't pay much attention to those other timeframes.
It may be relevant to others, but for me, it's...
Is that all?
No, I think this is a different one.
Yeah, this is a different one.
Here we go.
Yes, so this is the retest.
So now, this is what I see from the lower timeframe.
We can see that the order block was created here.
So this is where we want the price to retest in order to give us the drop.
So now, if you're like me and you know how to enter the market on the one-minute timeframe, as soon as this forms, you're ready to enter the trade.
But for someone who likes to wait for a retest, you simply mark the zone and wait for the zone to be mitigated.
Once it is mitigated, you wait for a change of character.
A change in character indicates that the market is seeking a reversal.
And here we witness a change of character, a very, very clean one.
So I'll just draw a horizontal line, and there are indicators that will automatically mark this for you, so you don't have to overthink it.
Okay.
So for me, I enter the trade.
Once I enter the trade, all that's left for me to do is just layer positions.
Okay.
So this is an example of one trade I took.
And you'll find very nice people, over a thousand people.
I'm here to tell you about the broker that I personally recommend.
When it comes to execution, transparency, and withdrawals, these aspects are truly important.
Zealand's Markets offers raw spreads plus a mere $3 commission, giving you the best spreads in the market.
No broker ever goes lower than this.
You get fast execution, stable trading conditions, and instant deposits and withdrawals via M-Pesa and cryptocurrency.
No waiting, no unnecessary delays.
This is a broker built for serious traders who value efficiency and trust.
No hidden games, no excuses when it's time to withdraw.
Just a solid trading environment.
If you're looking for a broker you can rely on, Zealand's market is worth checking out.
The link is in my description and pinned in my comment section.
Now, let's get back to the video.
And one of the things that people go through when they are layering the positions is,
The stop loss of the positions they added would be removed, and then the price just continues.
But of course, the original trade is still in effect.
How do you ensure that the positions you're stacking aren't removed?
Okay, so I'll give a simple example using this one.
So this is an area of interest.
This is another order block from a different higher time frame.
So I'll mark out that area and then I'll check how the price is behaving.
I mentioned a little earlier that I'm waiting for the price to let me know that it's ready to move.
When you enter the market in line with the market movers,
You'll find that you'll have almost zero drawdown when you enter the charts.
So this is how I see the market now.
So I have my order block here, right?
The market has retraced again, giving me another third retracement, right?
So this is the one-minute time frame, guys, remember?
So now, whenever the market gives me an engulfing candle, it means the market is ready to move.
So all that's left is for me to wait for a fair value gap to form.
And those are my areas for retesting.
So once the market gives me an engulfing candle with a fair value gap in it,
as long as I don't get a body candle close above the 50% of that fair value gap,
Then that fair value gap is very valid for me.
So I get the retest.
As soon as I get another body candle close below the last low that was made, I add an entry.
So when I add the entry, I make sure that this entry is not heavier than my original position.
So you'll get that.
Probably the reason people don't like layering is because when you layer,
You find that your head gets bigger.
Initially, they end up absorbing the profit you made when you first entered.
So for me, I usually find it safer to take a smaller position.
So I will always scale down when I'm adding positions.
So I'll add one position here, wait for the price to retest the area,
Give me another body candle close below.
After it gives me the body candle close below, I add another position.
So I'll have my original position, my second position, and my third position.
So now the market is giving me, and continues to give me, breaks below.
I am adding another position here.
So let me just use lines to mark so that people can see how I'm layering.
As soon as I get a body candle, I'll add it, guys.
So when you get another body candle nearby, I add.
So another body candle closes, I add.
Then I stop adding positions when the price makes a very large move.
Because after a major move, I always expect a deep retracement.
That's where I stop adding positions and wait for my final take profit to be hit.
Okay.
Yes.
And is the take profit set at your higher time frame POI?
Of course on my higher time frame POI.
So let me just switch back to the four hours so that we can see.
And you can see I have my first take profit here, where there is some liquidity resting.
The other take profit is here.
Of course, there's an order block here, so we expect a little bit of rejection.
That's why I usually say I go taking partials along the way.
So probably after this take profit level has been reached, I'm going to close some of these positions and keep my original entry open.
Yes.
So the first stop loss, is it right now at break?
Does it mean that the first one, before you start layering, is at break-even?
It's at break-even.
So it means that generally, in trading, the worst you can lose is zero.
Yes.
Okay.
Interesting.
And instead of layering, I see people waiting for the price to, you know, close a bullish candle.
Then wait for the price to move far away from that area and place the stop loss there.
How would you advise in that situation?
I would say that's probably thaт works for them.
That's what they do.
And I usually say that if something works for you, you don't need to change it.
So if all that works for them, then that's good.
Okay.
Yeah.
Interesting.
And when it comes to this strategy, is it the same strategy you use for scalping, or do you not scalp?
I was initially a scalper, but nowadays I engage more in intraday trading.
So that's why, yes, I do.
I do use this when I'm trading.
Okay.
Let's talk about the indicators you've mentioned.
What indicators are you examining?
Right now, I don't do any because I've mastered how to find the zones on my own.
But I know a few.
So one of them is Smart Money Concepts by Lux Algo.
I also like using the one for sessions, also by Lux Algo, because it lets me know when we're transitioning from one session to the next.
And you'll find that there's usually some kind of sweep occurring or volume increasing.
Yeah, I think I use both of them a lot.
Interesting.
So for a beginner, they can actually use them.
And once you've mastered them, of course, you don't have to.
Yes, you don't need to.
What are some of the mistakes you might have made on your journey toward mastering this or gaining your own edge in this strategy?
I would say doing what I want to do rather than doing what the market is showing me it wants to do.
Okay.
So when I say that here I'm seeing the market printing green candles, I want to see the market go up.
And I do a lot of layering without considering the fact that we're in a bearish market.
So now you'll find that I'll end up blowing my account because I'm layering my positions in the wrong direction.
And what do you initially expect to happen when you do that?
Of course, you should expect to experience very severe drawdowns.
You're probably going to blow your account.
So, yeah, I'd say I was mostly doing what I wanted the market to do, rather than reacting to what the market was showing me it wanted to do.
Okay.
If you're looking for ways to automate your trading with a system that has a proven track record, then you need to check out BMM.
One of the biggest challenges traders face today is consistently finding high-quality setups and spending hours glued to the charts.
BMM addresses that issue using advanced AI-powered scanners that detect high-probability trading opportunities across the markets.
When a setup is identified, you receive a clear buy or sell signal along with TP1, TP2, and TP3 targets, including a stop loss.
What I really like about BMM is that it gives you two ways to trade.
The first is tap to trade.
This is where signals are sent directly to your Telegram and can be executed on your MT5 account with a single tap.
The second option is full automation.
This is where BMM can execute trades on your behalf, allowing you to remain active in the markets without constantly monitoring the charts.
Today, over 1,400 traders are already using BMM scanners and automation tools to save time and trade smarter.
So if you want to learn more and see how the system actually works, click the link in the description and on your screen and get started with BMM today.
BMM, trade smarter, earn more.
How long does it take for your students to actually master this, grasp it, and master it?
Maximum two months.
Yes.
So the course, the mentorship program, lasts two months?
Two months.
Okay.
To instill proper discipline in them.
Yes.
So how can people get in touch with you if they really want to learn this?
I am on social media, on TikTok.
My handle is Fira Louis Flip Trades.
I also have my contacts there, my Linktree.
I'm also on Facebook, and I'm also on TikTok.
Wow.
Yes.
Amazing.
You also mentioned to me earlier that you handle account management.
How is it going for you?
It's actually one of the best things because I get to share my skills with others.
I also get to help others earn extra income.
Also, since I only risk 5% of their invested amount per trade.
Per trade?
Yes, per trade.
Does that include the layering part?
Yes.
Plus layering is 5%?
Yes.
Okay.
Yes.
That means you'd need around 20 trades to completely blow it.
Yes.
So on this side, you guys don't blow.
On my end, we don't blow accounts.
Okay.
Yeah.
Interesting.
How does it work?
Am I getting a premium service where I pay every month and then receive my full profit?
Or is it a 50-50 split?
It's a 50-50 split, and most of my clients withdraw daily.
Okay.
Yes.
Every day?
Every day.
Besides the days you lose?
Yeah.
Because when I take an L, I do accept it.
But most of the time you'll find that we withdraw.
Give us an example.
How was last week for you?
Actually, last week I think I hit TP the entire week.
No way.
Yes.
This week?
This week, I think today I had a loss, but then I recovered.
So I'm not trading again.
So you've broken even today?
Yes.
I've broken even today.
Interesting.
So this week, is it only today that you've incurred a loss?
Yes.
Okay.
What is the minimum requirement if I want to?
You need to have $1,000.
$1,000
Yes.
Having considered that I'm trading gold.
Gold is extremely volatile.
So if you come to me with very little capital, when it comes to risking the 5%, you'll find
That somebody comes to me with something like $50, 5% of $50, you can't trade gold.
So yeah, that's why I have such a high amount, but I also usually look at consistency.
The $1,000 is going to be, it's a very safe amount, and we're going to work with it for a very
Long time.
I'd explain that trading, when done with a disciplined strategy, research, and risk management, is fundamentally different from gambling. Gambling relies on chance, with no control over outcomes, while trading involves analyzing markets, making informed decisions based on data, and managing risk through tools like stop-loss orders and position sizing. Successful traders develop skills over time, much like any profession, and their results stem from knowledge and consistency, not luck. I'd emphasize that while there's risk in trading—just as there is in any investment—responsible trading is about minimizing risk and maximizing informed decision-making, not hoping for a lucky outcome.
I would tell them to please conduct research on it.
Do extensive and thorough research on it.
Get someone who has done it.
Seek their advice.
That's how you're going to see the other side of trading.
Yeah.
If you want to understand someone, you have to try to put yourself in their shoes.
Yes.
Yeah.
Wow.
Amazing.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for coming.
I'm going to sit down and try this strategy, test it, and of course I'll get in touch.
with you regarding what I'll see in the markets.
Talk to anyone who's watching you.
Tell them your social media platforms and your contact numbers.
So everyone watching me, especially the female traders, please don't be scared.
of this industry.
We are there.
We are here.
We see you.
We face the same challenges that you all face.
So it has nothing to do with gender.
Also to the entire crowd, everyone who is trading, you'll get there someday.
Just don't give up.
Yeah.
Wow.
Amazing.
Thank you so much for coming on the pod.
I really appreciate you.
You guys are always saying Ali, we need more women than men because the men are
Too many in the industry.

And of course, trading always involves risk.
Over 90% of CFD traders lose 90% of their income within the first 90 days.
So guys, every time you trade, make sure you risk only what you are able to or can comfortably afford to lose.

So this has been the Mind of a Trader podcast.
