Some race cars deserve to be driven. Others deserve to be remembered. These A1GP machines deserve both.
In this video, I spent the day at Road Atlanta photographing Taurino Racing's incredible collection of Ferrari-powered A1GP cars as they came back to life on one of America's greatest racing circuits. With screaming V8 engines and almost no distractions, this was a dream assignment for any motorsport photographer.
Come behind the scenes as I capture these incredibly rare machines from every angle, share how I approach photographing historic race cars at speed, and show what it's like working trackside during a private test. From planning camera positions to chasing the perfect light, you'll see exactly what goes into creating professional motorsport images.
If you love Formula 1 history, rare race cars, automotive photography, or simply incredible engine sounds, you're going to love this one.

The creator documents a two-day trip to Georgia, combining a passion for historic racing with professional automotive photography. The journey features a shakedown of rare A1GP open-wheel cars at Road Atlanta and a commercial shoot for Porsche North America's road car division in the scenic landscapes of North Georgia.
Oh my God, you know, say what you want about electric vehicles and hydrogen and hybrid
power and all that stuff.
It does not make me feel that.
So what am I doing driving down to Rhode Atlanta on a random Monday?
Well, there's actually two parts to what I'm doing over the next 48 hours, and I'm going
to make it into one video here.
So part one today at Rhode Atlanta, there's a driver that I've had the privilege of working
with Gianno Torino.
You know, he's actually the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo pro class champion from Lamborghini
North America.
And basically, Gianno and his dad have a really cool side project where they've been working
and rebuilding and buying as many as they can get their hands on chassis's from the
2008-2009 A1GP season.
The chassis's that Gianno and his dad are using are the 2008-2009 version.
It's a Ferrari V8 engine.
It's not a Formula One engine.
It's sort of a little bit more loosely like a GP2 or F2 engine.
They're not Formula One cars, but they are open wheel.
They look pretty similar to a Formula One car because the chassis was actually sort
of loosely designed based around the F2004 Ferrari.
So these are really cool cars, and Gianno and his dad are going to be doing a shakedown
today with as many of their cars that they have ready to run at Rhode Atlanta.
And then tomorrow, I'm going to wake up not quite as early as today, but still early enough.
And I've got a job with Porsche where I'm going to be doing some photography of a couple
of their road cars for a drive that they have coming up.
But today, I'm really excited to see these A1GP cars because I'm a big fan of the series.
I'm a big fan of racing.
I'm a big fan of open wheel cars.
And to be able to do whatever I want is awesome.
So we're going to have some fun today.
Alright, so we are pretty much ready to roll here at Rhode Atlanta.
It is a bright, beautiful, blue sky, sunny morning.
The cars are put together.
They've got three cars here today.
We've got the Lebanese car, we've got the Italian car, and then we have another car,
which is actually the Swiss car that doesn't have a livery on it.
It's basically just looks beat up.
We've got GoPros on it.
We've got all kinds of different things to kind of make it look cool for photo and video.
But for now, let's enjoy the sound of an LMP2 engine going by.
Love it.
What a day.
This is one of my favorite racetracks.
To see these cars pounding around here has been really, really cool.
Big thank you to Giano.
Big thank you to Torino Racing.
All the engineers and mechanics working on these cars.
These are pieces of racing history.
So cool to see them running around.
So the yellow one is actually not Team Italy, I was mistaken.
It's actually Team Germany's car.
So yeah, really, really amazing to have Lebanon, the Switzerland car, and the German car.
Big thank you for watching.
I am going to go get some dinner with my friend Foster, and then I'm going to get up nice
and early tomorrow and do more photography with Porsche for some road car stuff that
they've got in North Georgia here.
So I'm really looking forward to that.
I'm working with some new people, a new client.
I've done stuff with Porsche before, but not this particular part of Porsche.
So really excited to be working with some new people.
And yeah, while I'm down here, just kind of kill two birds, one stone.
It's been really cool to be back down at Road Atlanta.
I'm going to go get some food with Foster, get some sushi, head to bed because it's been
a long day, an early day, and I've got an early day tomorrow.
And yeah, I'll see you in the morning.

Good morning and welcome to day two here.
And yeah, I had a lovely evening last night, but I'm now back on the road.
It's about 5 a.m.
Heading toward North Georgia, toward Cleveland, Georgia to be exact, where I'm going to meet
up with the Porsche crew.
Basically what we're doing today is we're going to be making content for them to use
to give to journalists, and the journalists will be able to use this stuff in articles
that they're going to be writing about a Porsche experience drive.
So yeah, it's going to be a fun day.
Let's do it.
Over the past year, I've used these cheap but fun little NASCAR film cameras to document
some of the races I've been to.
Now I've turned those photos into a 256-page hardcover book.
There are two versions to order.
One is a regular ship-to-your-door version that will deliver anywhere in the world, or
if you're in the United States, you can order the signed and numbered limited edition version
of the book.
It will make a great gift to yourself or your racing-addicted friends and family.
All right.
It's been a productive and busy morning just chasing these Porsches around, just trying
to get some group shots of them.
We've got a nice windy road that they kind of come up through here, go by me right there.
I'm kind of doing two different shots because I have a little button on my camera right
now that I always have.
I use it all the time.
Basically it allows me to do two different types of photos very, very quickly and easily.
One of them is basically just a faster shutter speed, and the other is like a super slow
pan so I can kind of just shoot what I need and let go of it, and then it switches to
the other mode.
So pretty easy way to do it.
And that is a wrap from Georgia.
We are done.
I'm heading home.
It's a three-and-a-half-hour drive back to Charlotte, and I really enjoyed this morning.
It was really cool to be working with Porsche.
I've worked with the brand before.
I've worked on their motorsports side before, but really cool to be working with the North
America Road Car Division, and we had a lot of fun.
We got some cool pictures, a little bit of a strange weather morning, but it actually
made for some very dramatic, you know, cloud inversions, and we had a little bit of color
in the trees.
It was a beautiful road that Luke found for us to use, so yeah, it was a really nice sunrise
spot to do some static photos of the cars, and then we did some car-to-car.
Actually out of the back of a 911 Carrera, like, was perfect car for it, but I had a
lot of fun over the last two days.
Big thanks to Giano and the Torino family, and then of course to Luke and Shelby and
Calvin and Porsche North America for having me down.
I'm glad I could kind of double up on a little trip down to Georgia, but time for a little
time at home, turn these pictures around.
Yeah, big thanks for watching.
Please like and subscribe if you like my content.
I have lots of different YouTube videos about lots of different kinds of things, from Formula
One to M2 WeatherTech, 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Spa, if you go back far enough.
Yeah, really cool, you know, to be able to grow my channel and be able to show you different
sides of what it's like to be an automotive and motorsport photographer.
So if you like what you see, please like and subscribe, and I'll see you back down here
in a couple days.
