This orchid is looking weak and unhealthy, but what's even more concerning is what lies beneath.
And this is what I found. Dry roots, rotten roots, hollow black roots mixed with healthy roots.
The old flower spike and rotten roots are removed so the plant can focus on recovery.
Then I begin restoring the plant using a potato and vitamin b1 solution.
If you want to see the results of the recovery, please watch until the end of the video.
First, I gently remove the orchid from the pot and old growing medium.
The root system is intertwined with both healthy roots and many dry withered and rotten roots.
Some roots have turned black hollow inside and no longer able to function properly.
I use clean scissors to cut away the dry withered and rotten roots.
I remove each damaged part of the roots until only the healthy roots remain.
Because the damaged roots can no longer help the plant absorb water and nutrients effectively.
After treating the root system, I continue by removing the old dried flower spike.
Now the plant has been cleaned and is ready for a new growing environment.
I prepare a new pot and use pine bark as the growing medium to repot the plant.
Pine bark has a fairly airy structure helping create space around the root system.
I place the plant in the center of the pot then gently spread pine bark around the root system.
I remove each damaged part of the roots until only the healthy parts remain.
Next, I will prepare a simple nourishing solution from familiar ingredients.
That is potato. I take one third of a potato,
cut it into small pieces and put them into a blender.
I add about 300 milliliters of water and blend it thoroughly so the nutrients from the potato
mix into the water. Which country are you watching this video from? Please leave a
comment below and let me know. It's wonderful that we can connect with each other from
all around the world. After blending, I use a sieve or strainer to filter out the pulp.
After filtering, I add about one liter of clean water to dilute the solution.
Next, I add three vitamin B1 tablets to the solution. I stir thoroughly so that the vitamin
B1 dissolves into the mixture. I pour the entire solution into a clean spray bottle.
I gently spray the solution over the entire surface of the leaves
from the upper surface to the areas around the leaf bases.
Then I continue spraying evenly onto the stem and the entire surface of the growing medium,
especially the area around the root system. As the mixture evenly coats the plant,
the nutrients will support the leaves, stem, and roots in recovering more healthily.
Next, I use the remaining solution to water the surface of the growing medium.
I water slowly so the solution can seep down and reach the area around the root system.
The purpose is to help moisten the entire growing medium evenly so the solution is
distributed evenly around the root zone, helps the roots absorb nutrients more effectively,
and keeps the moisture level of the growing medium balanced.
Then I use a soft cotton pad soaked in the mixture to gently wipe each leaf.
I gently wipe away the dirt from each leaf, helping keep the leaf surface cleaner
and making it look green, glossy, and beautiful. Especially, I make sure not to let water remain
for too long in the crown and leaf axils as this can cause leaf rot, helps the roots absorb better,
and keeps the moisture of the growing medium balanced. I spray it evenly onto the leaves,
stem, and growing medium, helping the plant absorb moisture and nutrients more effectively.
And this is the result of two months of care. The leaves become greener, plumper,
glossier, and healthier. In particular, the two young leaves at the top have developed very well.
This is a positive sign that the plant is continuing to grow very well.
Look at the plant's root system. The roots have developed much more strongly. Many new green
roots are growing from the stem. There is also a small flower spike growing from the leaf axil.
The new roots continue to grow, spreading across the surface of the growing medium.
This is one of the signs I have been looking forward to the most. A healthy root system
will be an important foundation for the plant to continue growing for a long time.
Through this care process, my orchid has recovered and developed much better.
The plant is adapting well, so I will continue with this care routine.
If your orchid is also looking weak, try this method of mine.
