We just caught a break from the rain. Let's go check out that island.
Full speed ahead.
Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. Right now we're on our way to Big Ridge State Park.
It's a beautiful park with a really peaceful campground.
And there's a nearby island as well that we want to check out.
We brought our kayak with us. We're going to take a quick paddle there and scope it out.
Maybe shoot a future camping video on that island if we can figure out how to do that.
Looks like it's about to thunderstorm. Yeah, it should be a good one.
There's Marley.
Usually I'm the one being followed by bees and bugs.
That's a nice change.
After a pretty wet start, the rain finally let up, so it was time to get out on the water.
Big Ridge State Park covers nearly 3,700 acres of heavily wooded, mountainous terrain along
Norris Lake. There are a few designated backcountry campsites, but finding a legal
spot along the water isn't that simple. We'd spotted a small island nearby that
looks promising for a future camping trip. But with terrain this rocky and steep,
we weren't sure if there'd actually be enough flat ground for a large tent.
All right, so there's a channel to the right. We're going to follow that all the way,
and the island should be on the right hand side.
Marley thinks he owns the lake. Every boat that passes by, he marks at it.
This is Marley's lake.
So last time we were here, that was about five months ago, you think? Just about?
And it was in the middle of a huge drought. This right here,
I think there was at least 10 to 15 feet lower. You could see so much more of the limestone right
there. All right, let's check that right there. Right there? Full speed ahead.
All right, come on. So there is some flat spots back there, actually.
So there's a flat spot there, or even just like right here where you are. It's pretty big, but
it would fit here. We'd be slightly sloped, but that's not too bad. Yeah, either, like I said,
either right by the water or where you are. We just have to figure out something like a cargo
holder that we can put behind the kayak and just tie it to it and tow it, basically,
because it's not all going to fit on the kayak. And this was a lot to do multiple trips.
It's not that close.
Now if I go in, he's going to follow me? Incoming, babe.
Immediate regret.
You're a good boy.
Well, that was fun.
But tiring.
Yeah, that was tiring. That was a lot of paddling.
Yeah. This guy is pooped. From all that paddling. Yeah.
We already fed him, but he loves steak.
So the only reason he's not sleeping right now. He knows it's coming.
Man, that's perfect.
Good boy.
It's going to get crispy.
Okay, Marley, go peace. Stay. Sit. Stay. Stay. Not yet. Not yet. Okay, good boy. Good boy.
