Video Summary
AI GeneratedA groomer provides a shave and nail trim for Krampus, a 14-year-old Norwegian Forest cat. The session focuses on maintaining the senior cat's comfort and hygiene while avoiding unnecessary stress. Additionally, the groomer discusses a non-profit financial assistance program designed to help pet owners afford essential medical and grooming care.
Today we are grooming Krampus. I've been told that he's a Norwegian forest cat.
Would you like to come out? Oh my god you look so angry. I've never seen such an angry face.
Okay Krampus, you're gonna have to come out. Hello. Hello. It's okay. It's okay.
I thought Norwegian forest cats were large. Maybe I'm wrong. Would you like to try some tube?
I've been told that he is an extremely friendly cat and he has been groomed many many times
without any issues. I'm probably still going to put a cone on him just in case before I clip his
nails. Just to be certain. Now Krampus has never been bathed before and he is 14 years old so the
owner has only ever gotten him shaved. So I'm going to do that first and see how things go
and then evaluate him and determine whether or not I think a bath would be beneficial.
If it's not beneficial, if I think it's really no big deal not to bathe him,
then I probably won't bathe him. Just because he is 14 and he's not used to it. So
if he doesn't need it, I don't really see the benefit of forcing him through it.
Wow these are some thick nails. Like dog nails. Now Krampus here is going to apply
for our financial assistance program. If those watching don't know what that is. So for residents
of Ontario only at this time, although we do hope to expand to all of Canada as well as the
United States, but this is a slow progress, we have a rescue or I should say I have a rescue
called Barely a Dog Rescue. And while we do foster animals, both dogs and cats, provide them with
medical care and then find them their forever homes, we also have a financial assistance program.
So the financial assistance program is for individuals who qualify. They can apply to have
medical care as well as grooming care paid for through our non-profit. So in this case,
Krampus needs a dental. Dentals can be very expensive. So he's going to submit an application
and because of all of you who regularly donate to the non-profit, we are able to provide that care
for a lot of animals in need. This obviously reduces the financial burden from the pet owner
for those who might have difficulty affording this themselves. And then of course provides
needed vet care for animals who need the care. This has been something I wanted to do for a
very long time. It's something I've done personally for a while. Like I've personally paid for
clients vet care or I've groomed their animals at no charge because they couldn't afford it.
But obviously if I wanted to do this on a larger scale, I was going to need more help than
just me personally covering it. So a huge thank you again to everyone who has donated to the
rescue. If you're interested in being a part of it, you know, either volunteering, getting involved,
fostering, adopting, or donating, you can visit my website, barelyadogrescue.com.
And there's tons of more information there for you. Krampus' situation is not unique and we've
been able to help quite a few dogs and cats already. We've been able to help quite a few
emergency cases, especially the most recent fundraising endeavor that we did with the
five for five challenge. We raised a lot and we were able to help a lot of people
and a lot of pets. So once again, thank you guys so much for donating for all of your help.
And I can't wait to help more animals just like Krampus. All right. So I am shaving him in a
number 10 blade. I'm trying to decide if I want to shave him in reverse for a smoother cut, but
he is kind of skinny. He's not underweight by any means, but he is a skinnier cat. I mean,
he is 14. That tends to happen with age. So I just get a little nervous when I am shaving cats like
this because it's so easy to catch their skin and the clipper. People might be asking why I am not
using my clipper vac. The reason for that is because I am unsure if it's safe to use when
using a 10 blade, the clipper vac vacuums at the same time that you shave. Right. So I just
kind of worry that if I'm using a blade as short as a 10, it's going to like vacuum the skin up
and then make it easier for me to cut. I'm not sure. This is a new tool for me and I'm just
learning. So if you have experience with the 10 blade and the clipper back and you groom cats,
please leave a comment and let me know whether or not it's safe to use with a 10 blade.
Because if it is, obviously that would make my life a lot easier. The cut would be nicer and
the cleanup would be a lot quicker as well. Krampus, so far your delight. I don't notice
any dry skin. I don't notice any dirt, so I'm probably not going to bathe him. I don't think
it's needed. If his skin was really dry or greasy, I might consider it, but I'm not seeing anything
here. Good boy. Are you very chill? I don't get any ideas, sir. People probably are going to ask
why is this cat being shaved? I'm going to assume he is being shaved for easier maintenance purposes.
Even though his coat's in pretty good shape, the older he gets, the less he's going to groom
himself. I think it's good that they got him used to this type of grooming at a young age and he's
getting this done regularly because at least the older he gets, it's not going to be a new
experience for him. But any cat, and especially long-haired cats, can become increasingly more
difficult to manage in regards to their coat the older that they get. He does a pretty good job
grooming himself. Hopefully he will, you know, for the time coming. But in case he doesn't,
at least he's used to grooming and at least there's a solution for him. You don't like this.
There we go. There we go. Good boy. Oh, now you're growling? Good for everything.
Please don't touch the tip of my tail. Okay. Okay. Okay. Poor guy. Well, I might put the
cone on just to finish those front paws and then he's all done. All right, Mr. Grumpy Face is all
finished. I don't think we're going to bother with the bath today because he really doesn't
need it and I can tell he's nervous. And his growling is telling me that he's finally had
enough of me. If you guys liked today's video and you want to support more complimentary grooms,
