This video will show you photography locations and travel tips from Lofoten to Senja and beautiful
scenery along the way. Travel to both Lofoten and Senja is a bit tricky. We took a flight
from Oslo to Yvennes, which is located between Lofoten and Senja. From Yvennes airport we started
our exciting Norway trip to our first destination, Sakarsøy, in the heart of the Lofoten island.
The best of Norway is in winter.
We were gliding between snow walls, among rocks, along the coastlines, through tunnels short
and long, past small towns and with beautiful mountains in the background.
Change of weather is a matter of minutes.
After four hours of driving we were approaching Sakarsøy.
We stayed here for five nights for photography and filming of the iconic Lofoten island.
Next morning we were greeted by a heavy snowfall. What a winter wonderland. Our one-bedroom cabin
with a great view. Wooden racks are used to dry the northern Atlantic cod,
the fish that has built Lofoten since the days of the Vikings.
They are dried by the cold arctic wind and then exported around the world.
With fresh seafoods and a modern lodging in the center of the Lofoten islands,
Sakarsøy is a perfect base for exploring the islands.
Next day was a beautiful day with everything covered by fresh powder snow.
We were heading to the nearby hilltop. At the hilltop you have a breathtaking view of the
Lofoten island. Hamnøy, the oldest fishing village in Lofoten. This is the most popular
spot on the bridge to take the iconic picture of Lofoten. Here is also a perfect place to
launch a drone for a stunning overview of the Lofoten island. A seven-minute drive from Sakarsøy
is another beautiful fishing village, Reiner. I think this is the most beautiful scenery drive
in Lofoten. This parking lot at the village entrance is the best place for photography
and drone filming of Reiner. This scenic drive is the best at sunset. Another sunny day we were
heading to Skogsødden beach, a short 25-minute drive. This is the most beautiful beach in the
Lofoten island. Leaving the Lofoten island, we were going further north to Senja, but we made
two stops along the way. The first is Vestbergøy. Vestbergøy is a large residential area in Lofoten,
famous for its sand and rock beaches. After about one hour drive, we arrived at our B&B house.
Next morning, we took a short seven-minute drive to Unstad beach, a great place for surfing.
We were so excited to see the beach, but did not see the danger lying ahead. We got stuck in snow,
but the beach is absolutely gorgeous. Our next stop is Henningsvar. Henningsvar is another fishing
village spread over several small islands connected by multiple bridges. This is the
downtown with one main road. This large parking lot is a good place to have a picnic lunch
and for takeoff of your drone. It's another good year for stockfish, which is an important part of
Norway's cultural heritage, providing food for the vikings on their epic journey. The fresh
unsalted cod will be air dried here for about three months, 100% natural. Stockfish is served
in every restaurant in Lofoten. It's unbelievably delicious. Next, we were heading to Senja.
The scenery along the way is just amazing and keeps changing in minutes. Further north,
it's a totally different landscape. Norwegian walkers. We arrived at the fishing village
Mephjordvar on the northwest coast of the Senja island and stayed here for three nights.
The northern part of Senja island looks like a hand with a magnificent fjord and beach between
the fingers. Lying in the middle of the fjord is an incredible tiny island entirely covered
by the village Hjulsøy. The best viewpoint is on the roadside before reaching the village.
After this extremely rewarding trip, we were heading back to Ibanez airport.
Before takeoff, each airplane needs to take a shower for the freezing weather.
