안녕, 우리 친구들!
My name is Gamin.
I'm a Korean folk musician.
Today I'm here to introduce Korean wind instruments and music for you.
Korean folk music is sung by ordinary people,
and Korean people like to enjoy their music and dance and life.
This is Korean traditional wind instrument.
It is called piri.
It is made of bamboo,
and it came from China long time ago, more than thousand years ago.
It has a reed. It is called seo or hyeo.
So we can put together like this,
and we cover the hole with your fingers,
left thumb and one by one,
and then we can play music.
This is Korean traditional wind instrument.
It is called taepyeongso.
Taepyeong means big,
and pyeong means peace,
and seo means wind instrument.
So this instrument is supposed to bring peaceful sound and blessing.
So it is performed usually outdoor for the festival or marching.
This instrument is called saenghwang.
It is very old instrument,
come from China 2,000 years ago,
and it has 17 bamboo.
So each bamboo has their own pitch.
It makes sounds with inhale and exhale both,
and if I cover one finger hole,
it make one single note.
If I cover two finger hole at the same time,
it make two notes at the same time.
So this is very unique instrument.
It make chord.
When it introduced in Korea long time ago,
it looks like heading up,
and it's very symbolic meaning.
That's how we call it saeng.
Saeng is Chinese character,
and it meaning birth.
So many universal things are growing up,
and it's like a birth.
So that's how it named saeng.
If you like music,
just follow your heart,
and if you really like,
then you can practice,
and you can improve your musical skills,
and I believe everybody has musical talent,
and you can be a musician.
