Hi, I'm Paul Hawkshurst of Canon EOS A,
and I'm here to talk about some new Cinema EOS firmware.
Cinema Exposure Mode and Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation
are both exciting new features that will help take your shots to the next level.
Let's get right into it and learn what they're all about.
A truly exciting update is coming for the EOS C400 and C80 cameras,
in the form of an expanded Dynamic Range Mode in Canon Log 2 called Cinema Exposure Mode.
Normally, when utilizing Canon Log 2 in the standard custom picture menu,
when you adjust your ISO above its base value,
the Dynamic Range remains at 6.3 stops above 18% gray, no matter the ISO value selected.
Now, with Cinema Exposure Mode,
the Dynamic Range will shift up into the highlights at each full stop above the base ISO.
So going to 1600 ISO from a base ISO of 800
will give you 7.3 stops of Dynamic Range above 18% gray.
This extra range maximizes at 2 additional stops, or 8.3 stops over.
Therefore, any ISO selection beyond 2 full stops from base ISO
will maintain that 8.3 stops over value.
Cinema Exposure Mode is accessible through the new Cinema Exposure menu page
within the camera's main menu.
Also in this update, the C400 will be receiving
On certain zoom lenses, you'll see the brightness of the image diminish
as you zoom through to the telephoto end of the lens.
This is known as iris ramping.
Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation is a countermeasure
utilizing the metadata throughput of the lens to the C400,
which then interprets how to compensate for the light loss by adjusting the ISO or gain.
These adjustments are done one-to-one in real time,
which means you will no longer see any loss of brightness
as you zoom through the full focal length of the lens.
This feature will be available when using select CineServo lenses.
We're happy to let you know that this new firmware
is already available for download on our website.
