Guided by a vintage-inspired vision, Emma collaborates with the designer and her stylists to create a unique, ethereal look that blends antique aesthetics with modern elegance, culminating in a series of versatile gowns for her wedding and after-party.
Just a little mystery.
Wow.
Just the right finishing touch.
I feel like an elfin fairy.
Hi Vogue, it's Emma Roberts.
We are at the final fitting for my wedding dress
at the Monique Lillier flagship.
I am so excited to show you my wedding dress.
Working with Monique has been an absolute dream
and I am just so, so, so excited to try on my dress.
I actually haven't even tried on the final,
final version of my dress,
so I will be experiencing it with you guys.
As we started the planning process,
we really started from scratch
because I didn't really know what I wanted.
I just know that I wanted it to feel very vintage inspired.
I'm obsessed with antique books and treasure hunting
and I love collecting old ephemera,
so I really wanted that to shine through in the dress.
So for me, it wasn't so much about the cut,
it was about what the color was gonna be.
So Monique actually designed a custom color
and it's this antique kind of tea-stained color
that is so beautiful because I realized that
on my wedding day, I kind of wanted to look like a ghost,
a little like antique ghost doll.
So we wanted that to shine through.
I feel like I was just so lucky.
I mean, I had literally the best designer, Monique,
my stylists, who are also my bridesmaids,
Cake and Britt, who are here somewhere.
Do you guys wanna come talk, you little hotties?
Come sit.
Yeah.
Hey, kitties.
These are my two amazing stylists
and two of my best friends and also some bridesmaids.
Yes, we're doing double duty here.
I mean, you're doing like quadruple duty.
Quadruple.
I'm Britt.
I'm Kara.
We're sisters.
The start of the design process.
I guess when Emma told us she was getting married,
we were just like, oh my God, we can't wait
to have the most inspiring, creative fantasy world.
So we just got so excited.
Started our mood board as we do.
The backbone has always, since we've met her,
been vintage.
Like at the core, that's what we connected with
when we first met.
Love of dolls, love of books, love of furniture,
love of clothes.
Anything like old world, we loved.
But it's also never been like, we're her stylists.
It's always been a collaboration from the beginning.
It's like been the three of us like.
Yeah, that's true.
It's true, it's just been like three,
it felt like three friends who like would just sit
and have fun and brainstorm and get creative
and then create something together.
And that's what makes it so fun.
I haven't seen anything.
I've been crying the whole time, so I have blurry eyes.
I don't even know what her dress looks like.
It's just like, I've been crying the whole time.
If you want it done right, you gotta go to Monique, right?
It's true, it's true, that's true.
I think Emma being so into vintage,
but also being so modern,
it was like kind of the perfect choice.
Like she bridges that gap, like we were saying.
I don't know how she reinvents a wedding dress
as many times as she had.
I walked in today, I saw a dress I've never seen before.
I was in the window, I couldn't believe it.
We were so excited to collaborate with her.
I was just so, so grateful that she was down to do it.
The synergy was so there,
and it really, I think we just had such lightning
in a bottle, all of us together.
You guys, should we look at the dress?
Should we get Monique?
I'm Monique Lulier,
and I designed Emma Roberts' custom wedding dresses.
I decided to work with silk chiffon
because we wanted to create a very ethereal,
romantic, and vintage-inspired gown.
There's over 25 yards of the silk chiffon,
and we created this custom color.
This gown took nine months to make,
and I would say it took close to 1,000 hours
to complete this dress.
I want Emma to feel the most beautiful version of herself,
and I think this design really showcases that.
Can't wait to celebrate.
Hi!
Are you ready to see it?
I'm so ready.
Okay, this lace, you outdid yourself.
Oh my!
After all these months, here she is.
I mean, the color.
You nailed.
So what I did is-
Tell me everything.
You know, I started with the blush pink
that I do in my signature collection,
but because you wanted that vintage feeling,
I decided to dip it in ecru.
So I created this custom color just for you.
Are you gonna call it that, Emma?
It's actually called the Vintage Rose.
Oh!
After you, the Vintage Rose!
Yes!
Okay, this is insane.
So it has that antiqued feeling.
Oh my God, it's so beautiful.
And then I decided to put the lace.
This was your, like, genius.
I mean, because we tried it on without the lace,
and then on the last fitting,
you were like, let's do the lace.
And then incorporated it back here as well.
Right, we wanted to add something
that was really unique, just to you.
And you kept saying you wanted an asymmetric top,
you wanted something that covered a sleeve,
but not entirely,
so I thought this was a great way to do that.
I know.
And it was just so flattering on you.
And this is that cape that we can remove as well,
so you can have two looks for the night.
Oh, it's gonna be so fabulous.
And I also wanted to make sure we could see
the corset that you really wanted inside the dress,
so you see all the intricate, you know,
details from the boning,
and it really fits you like second skin.
And then of course,
like a little leg action.
We gotta show a little leg.
Little leg action.
Little leg.
We gotta slip there.
Must.
I've been married in a movie before,
and I've tried on wedding dresses for that,
which always feels so weird.
So now, now it's the real deal.
This is your second dress that you're gonna change into,
and I have to say, this one was very nostalgic for me,
because this is from my archives.
This gown I designed in 2003.
I mean, this looks like it could be
totally vintage from 100 years ago or from now.
This is gonna be so fun in Idaho, at the after party.
I mean, I'm just, I'm gonna be up on the bar wearing this.
I hope you don't mind.
I can't wait to see you partying in this one.
And this, you can move freely, and I love the texture.
I love the texture.
I love how there's a little, like, edge to it,
so you're changing from a more vintage,
romantic, ethereal look
to something with a little more edge.
Again, it has that corset.
We built this custom just for you,
so I can't wait to see how it fits.
Well, and I like how we're keeping the corset theme.
But I also, I love the idea of wearing black
for the after party,
and I love that you were also into that.
Me, Cake, and Brit, we're, we love doing something
that's, like, a little unexpected.
Yes, exactly.
Thank you.
Oh, I'm so excited.
It's gonna be so great.
Okay.
All right, the time has come.
Let's do it.
I can't wait to show everyone.
Okay.
Here I am, guys.
What do you think?
Do you love it?
It's so great.
Are people actually crying?
Guys!
Oh my God!
Guys!
Mom's over here.
You love it?
It's stunning.
As soon as Mom said she might cry,
I was like, I won't cry.
It's pretty.
Wow.
That train.
I will.
I love you.
My sister.
My cousins.
And then my bridesmaids and BFFs and stylists
and my mommy.
Grace, Charlotte, Daphne, Allie, Cake,
Lily, Brit, and Kelly.
The crew.
Thank you for making this all possible.
Everybody, thank you.
Cheers.
Love you guys.
It feels super Emma, and I feel like the I moment
is just, like, the first thing I thought
was that she looked like a doll.
And she's obsessed with dolls,
so I feel like it's very fitting for her.
The color is incredible.
Like, it could not be more perfect.
And I love that it's custom for her.
It's so beautiful.
But, like, every detail is beyond.
This is everything.
Love it.
Gorge.
And it's so classic.
Hi!
Hi, boo.
Hi, boobie.
I'm Allie.
Allie's the most fun person at the wedding.
Every wedding.
I am Rally Allie, so.
But she is a doll.
She's all of our dolls.
And she walked out and it was so perfect.
I'm like, I said it was,
I literally said it was yummy.
Yeah, you did.
Which is, I don't know why I said yummy,
but it's just perfect.
I'm Lily.
I'm one of Emma's best friends.
Lil.
I just can't believe it.
I feel so emotional.
Aw, thanks, Lil.
I'm probably gonna cry again on the day.
We're all gonna cry.
It's so beautiful.
Love you guys.
Congratulations.
She's done fashion shows since she was probably two, three.
Non-professional fashion shows.
Yeah, non-professional.
She means, the dress is just exquisite.
It's, the color, it's like tea-stained.
Perfectly amazing, just, I love it.
I said I wanted to like look like a ghost,
and they delivered.
It's just beautiful.
It's ghost as well.
Couldn't be happier.
After the ceremony,
the beauty of this dress keeps transforming.
Throughout the night.
So now, throughout the night.
So, we want you to dance,
or when you move into the reception,
we don't want anyone to like step on your train.
So, we created a bustle that took us two months
to figure out how it would work.
So, elements of the dress start to come off.
Wow.
So you can keep this.
Isn't that crazy?
That is amazing.
We're gonna bustle this part,
so then everything becomes floor-length.
So then you can.
I mean, you're an architect.
So now you can walk around, and you can.
Wow.
So you can.
I got chills.
I got chills, too.
Legs?
Legs.
Oh my God.
Beautiful.
It is Emma.
Emma?
This is crazy.
It's a painting back there.
Then this, you can remove this
if you wanted to go strapless.
Oh, they haven't seen the strapless yet.
This becomes a convertible version.
Oh my God.
No.
Yes.
Are you serious?
Yes.
It's like five.
Isn't that so cool?
There's five looks in the dress.
I know.
You don't even need to change.
Cody's gonna cry.
Like, non-stop.
Yeah.
He's gonna love it, but he's also,
I mean, he loves anything that I love,
but I think he'll really love it.
He loves everything about you.
Let's face it.
I mean, yeah.
He wouldn't care if I wore jeans,
but he's gonna definitely die for this.
Should I put on the saloon boudoir?
Yes.
No.
Stop, stop it.
Oh my God.
It's so weird.
Oh my God.
Do a little spin.
Give us a little spin.
The saloon mountain 2003 queen.
You found this?
In the archives, you guys.
Wait, this is amazing.
You did, but how did you know to find this?
Like, this was your vision.
You have sent us so many inspos of like early 2000s,
like this.
And the shoes will be black on the day.
And these are all silk organza strips that we cut.
Oh my gosh.
It creates that movement.
And it's just the right amount of fraying, you know?
So cool.
Give it a twirl.
I did.
I did twirling.
Three wishes.
What three wishes?
Do a twirl.
Three wishes, twirl.
I don't even know about that.
Yeah.
You have to make three wishes.
Okay.
I'm dizzy.
Like, I'll be up for it.
Fun, you guys.
Wow.
Monique, this is crushed.
It's all like a little black lacy brothel, Idaho.
Sorry, I don't want to say brothel.
I don't know.
Let's get back on that.
Idaho.
A little like mountainy, old 1930s mountain town
in the era that you love.
2003, 2004 is like the favorite.
So it's like so streaming.
It's beyond.
And it's fun.
It's so fun.
I'm going to have a little fun.
Yes.
It's so well.
I mean, your body.
Coming from you.
And it's also a two-piece.
So you could wear this person again.
Oh my gosh.
You could wear it like a skirt.
Can I borrow it after?
Yes, of course, Al.
No one's going to do it.
I'll get married.
Nice.
Yes.
Aw, thank you, Monique.
You're so funny.
You're the best.
You guys.
Thank you.
Gorgeous.
Now we just have to get there and time to party.
Now it's time to get married.
Now, raise your hand if you're going out tonight.
I'm going out.
Vogue, thank you for coming to the final fitting.
I can't believe I get to say,
Vogue, thank you for coming to the final fitting.
And I will see you at the wedding.
