I am Lou with another episode of My Car Story. Today we're in Yuma, Arizona at a car show
called Midnight at the Oasis. It's a three-day show. Come on out and see a great car show. I'm
with Fowler Malone and he's got an amazing car. Fowler, what year make and model is this one?
This is a 1950 Ozilville Rocket 88 Deluxe Club Club. You're not gonna see this one too often.
Let me take this and do that. Come on right back with me. Fowler, come right alongside me.
This baby's got some back and how long did it take you to restore this car?
Nine years of weekends. Nine years of weekends. I just want to show it from the side.
That is absolutely fantastic. Have you seen another one? Yes, occasionally you see one,
but they're pretty rare. They're pretty rare. While we're in the back, let's open up the
and let me show some of the jewelry like that and the Ozilville and the Rocket 88. Before we
talk about just that 88, notice there's an 88 there too. Go ahead, we'll open that trunk.
This would be the business person of the day would have something like this because it's
got a pretty substantial trunk to it too. Notice these nice chrome pieces.
Wow, you really did great work. Did you have other people help you with this? I
mostly did everything except the upholstery and the paint. Wow, what a great job.
All right, we'll close that.
And you said, correct me if I'm wrong, what year was this that you got it? 2014.
2014. Were you looking for a long time or how did this happen?
Like Ozilville, my dad was an Ozilville man. I had a friend in high school who had a car just
like this. Is that right? Your friend in high school had one like this? Yes. Wow. Okay,
and we'll come back here. We'll take a look at that.
It's a little windy out here, but we're going to deal with that.
Well, your car is just spectacular and striking. First car. Everything right there.
Absolutely perfect, as you can see. Now, what is this? Is this copper? Is that brass?
That is copper. I didn't know it was copper when I started, but discovered it when I polished it.
Well, I mean, you've really polished it because copper, was it originally green
when you started cleaning it? Dirty brown. Dirty brown, and we've got the ventilation
here. Is that just like you pull off something in the car and you get ventilation through the car?
Yes, there's a duct that goes all the way into the car. And look at the rocket hood ornament
that you have. Yes. Let's prop the hood open, shall we? Okay. I know we've got a prop rod
because this hood weighs close to about 300 pounds. I can give you a hand with this too,
if you like. Okay, certainly. Nice, you made the custom feature. That saves you a lot of time and
energy. So now this is for the radiator? It's access to the radiator drain. Got it. Originally
six volt, but I could see a 12 volt there, correct? Yes. And then I like the Oldsmobile rocket right
here, especially how you see the spark plug wires, and they use those to hold them down.
Oil bath, air filter. Tell me about this. What is, this looks really different to me. Tell me
about that carburation. Oil bath, air cleaner, silencer, and then a back draft carburetor.
Right here. Air comes in from the back. It's a Rochester two barrel,
and the nickname for it is a turtle back. Turtle back, because it looks like, well,
a turtle back. Now are those screws that are holding it in there, just regular screws?
Well, they're special. Okay, so special screws. Got it. And this is your generator? Yes. Got it.
Let me come on over on this side for a moment. I'm walking right by you. As we do that,
I see we've got our VIN tag. Oh, let me do it this way, so it's going to make a lot more sense
to people. There. There's your oil bath. This might be the first time you're actually able to
read it, Fowler. There. Well, why don't we fire it? Okay. And we'll let it idle,
and then we'll shut it down, and I'll take a look at the interior.
It's a great car. Let me listen to the exhaust for a second.
Has it got a little kick down? Did it kick it down? Gas cap. A little kick down. I will shut
that down. Now, you put the dual exhaust on it. It wouldn't have had dual exhaust, correct?
It could have had dual exhaust. It could have had dual exhaust.
What a great car. I want to show people this right off the bat. That's what it looked like
when he first had it. It's just kind of rusty. Now, this is your back window? Yes,
and that's a sliding window. Go ahead. Show me how that works. Well, I don't want to open it.
Okay. Got it. Got it. All right. So we don't want to take the chance of that sliding one way and
not coming back. That makes sense. Let me show people your interior. Now, your friend clearly
made a big impression on you with this car that you said, if I could get another one,
this would be great. So your bright lights. Yes. And then what do we have here? Lights,
wiper. What do we have here? Fan. Fan. Defrost. And then the hood latch. Hood latch here. Or
that's a vent. Ventilation. Hood latch. Got it. Big pull. Is this straight? Let me do this.
That's straight, correct? That's straight. So you'd have that. What a steering wheel emblem,
right? Yes. Wow, that's like a desk plate or something. A paperweight on a desk. That's
beautiful though. How difficult was it to find that? It took some looking, yes. Was the one
originally with the car? Yes, but it was not in good shape. Right. So you actually found this one?
Yes. That must have been a magic moment. Yes, it was. Was there other pieces to this car that
were difficult to achieve? Some of the stainless was not able to, could not find it anywhere and
had to actually restore it, hammer it out, remove big dents in it. Day night mirror here? Yes.
In 1950? Yes. Wow. And this one has no miles on it. Why is that? The speedometer has a problem.
Okay. And on the other side we've got, I see warm. This looks like your push button start.
Yes. Another vent. Yes. And what's the top one? A cigarette lighter. Cigarette lighter.
I really like your radio too. Wow. What a car. I see that right there. We've got Oldsmobile there.
Body by Fisher. All of the interior, you had somebody do the interior? Yes, I did. Wow.
So it looks all time period correct. It's the correct interior. Yeah. Fowler, what a great car.
Thank you. Congratulations on a fantastic restoration. I'm excited to share this
car with the globe. Thanks so much for being on My Car Store. Thank you. My pleasure.
