AI GeneratedPrince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly moving back to the UK to reconcile with King Charles III. While some suggest the King's health is the primary motivator, others question the couple's ability to regain the trust of the monarchy and the British public, especially regarding security costs and their desire for privacy versus public life.
Our main news this morning, Harry and Meghan are trying to win back the trust of the King
following years of controversy.
Well, it comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announce they're going to be moving to the UK,
well, at the end of this month, aren't they?
And the children are going to be enrolled in British schools.
Prince Harry's friend, Archie Manners, who's a regular, as you know on GB News,
says the King's health is likely to be a key factor.
The King is not a young man and he has cancer.
So, I mean, without being too grim about it, he's not going to live forever.
None of us are, but I suspect I might live a bit longer than he will.
And I suspect, like a lot of these rifts, when it's done over the telephone
or, in this case, through the national newspapers, it elicits one kind of response.
When you look at somebody face to face and have a conversation, things are seen differently
and I suspect that's what has happened here.
I am in no doubt that the primary motivator of this move is the King's health.
Shall we talk to the former Royal Editor of The Sun, Charles Ray.
Charles, good to see you this morning.
What do you make of all of this?
I'm very uncomfortable, I've got to say, when people start talking about the King's health.
Good morning to both of you.
Yeah, I mean, I have to say, I think it's ridiculous that we are speculating
or there are people who are speculating about the King's health.
You know, everything that we've been told, and there is no reason to doubt it,
we've seen it ourselves.
The King looks fantastic whenever we see him out on the streets.
We had Camilla on a programme the other day for Maggie's cancer charity
talking positively about the King, how he was determined he was going to beat it.
And I think it's wrong that people do speculate about the King's health in this.
You know, it's hard to say whether there was a factor or not.
All I do know is, like you, Stephen, I'm very uncomfortable with the whole thing.
There are so many questions that are unanswered,
and I'm not sure that we're going to get any real good answers in the short term.
We understand, though, Charles, that Prince Harry is trying to win back the trust of the King
and in doing so has promised to stop giving out interviews.
Do you think he can win back the trust of the King?
I think that's going to be a long road.
But he's not only got to win back the trust of the King,
he's got to win back the trust of the British public,
who at the moment don't think, a large majority of them,
don't think he should be back in this country with his wife.
So we'll have to wait and see how that pans out.
I've read this morning that there's not going to be any television interviews,
there's not going to be any release of where the home is,
whether it's in the Cotswolds, Northampton, Windsor, Luton.
I mean, who knows where this home is going to be?
Nor will there be pictures of the two children when they start on the first day of school,
which is the norm for the royals to do,
nor portraits of the kids on their birthdays.
So if they're going to try and live some sort of monk life together, then fair enough.
But as I say, the big question is, who's paying for the security?
It's not the taxpayer at the moment.
And I don't think the British public will stand for the security,
our security, our Metropolitan Police gun guards to guard William,
sorry, to guard Harry and Meghan when they're non-working royals.
Using the internet without a VPN, a virtual private network,
is a bit like taking to the road without car insurance.
All it takes is one unlucky moment to cost you a lot of cash.

A virtual private network is an app that hides your IP address and helps keep your data private.
When you're browsing the internet at home, you give up a large amount of data to businesses,
to shops and indeed to social media giants too.
Hackers have the ability to steal your personal data with ease,
including sensitive information such as passwords, keystrokes and even your personal photos.
Private Internet Access helps protect your personal data by encrypting your internet connection
to keep your data out of the hands of cyber criminals.
And it's not just hackers either to be concerned about.
Information can be censored too.
When Canada passed their C18 bill, social media giants decided to ban news content on their platforms.
But PIA can protect your ability to consume the news and content you love.
Private Internet Access is available for Windows users, macOS, Android, Linux, iOS
and you can use one PIA subscription to protect an unlimited amount of devices.

This is the big thing where it all is going to have to tie in,
because it's interesting what you say about the privacy side of things.
For this to work, and in some respects it wouldn't matter what the British public think,
if they are living an actual private life that they said they wanted to live originally,
if they're out of the spotlight, if they're not doing interviews and little tours
and publishing pictures and all the rest of it,
then the security concerns are going to be considerably reduced, aren't they?
Which is going to make it cheaper for them to afford if they are paying for it.
Well, even at a reduced rate, Stephen, it's still going to cost mega money.
You're talking about security, you're talking about a panic room at the property,
you're talking about the children being taken to school by private security,
who will not be armed. We will not allow private security to be armed in this country.
If it's in the Cotswolds area where Princess Anne lives, as does the King has Highgrove down there,
well, there is a police scenario down there, but we don't know where the house is,
and they keep on saying they're not going to reveal these details, but you know it as well as I do,
that this will sneak out eventually, we'll know where the house is.
There's no doubt about that.
How do you think the Prince and Princess of Wales feel about all of this, Charles?
Well, William and Harry have not spoken for at least four years,
and Catherine is exactly the same.
They haven't been very happy with the pronouncements that both Meghan and Harry
have made over the recent years, particularly condemning various members of the royal family,
including Catherine, Camilla and the King himself.
That is a hard road for them to pull back on.
In the days before the internet and everything else,
at least you can maybe put to bed some of the hurtful things that are said in the family and forget about it.
You can forget about it now, not with social media.
It's always going to be there as a record of what they've said and done.
It's going to be quite amazing if suddenly there's some sort of olive branch given out
by either William or Harry for them to get rid of, to get together.
Harry's got to be very, very careful, because William's going to be king one day.
He's going to be ruling the roost, and Harry isn't.
Just a very quick final thought.
If they are going to have a quiet life, which is how it's looking at the moment,
I can see Harry going for that.
I'm struggling to see Meghan go for that.
Yes, I think Harry would be quite content with the various charities that he's involved in.
I keep on saying this to you on this programme.
I commend him for that, because that's where he is at his best, doing those charity things.
Now, Meghan, I'm reading reports from Australia this morning that she may end up being an actress again.
That's not living a private life.
I'm not sure if these are true stories or anything else.
But something has happened over the last few months for them to decide to come over here.
Isn't it amazing that it's all been done in secret?
They didn't even tell the king that they were coming back here in that hour-long meeting at Highgrove.
So they've managed to buy some mansion somewhere,
they've got the kids enrolled in a school somewhere,
without anybody actually knowing anything at all.
It's brilliant how they've done it, but I suspect there's something other going on as well.
And they did all of that without any media intrusion, Charles.
Absolutely.
Thank you so much.
