‘We lost today’s race because of the Qualifying yesterday’ – Leclerc

Charles, this just felt like a day that was just never going to go right for you. It felt like the pace in the car was there, it just felt like nothing really worked. What's your kind of interpretation of it all? I think you are right saying that. It's a good assessment. I think we've lacked a little bit of luck today. The virtual safety car wasn't really the best timing for us. If anything, it was the worst. But as I said, I think in racing, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get unlucky. Before the break, I had two, three races where luck seems to be by my side. And at one point, you get the other side of the coin, which today was a little bit the example of that. But the pace, I think, was strong. And I think eventually we are losing today's race because of the qualifying yesterday. And surely it's never easy when you are starting in the back of a track like this. So it was always going to be a difficult race. So where do you kind of go from here? I know the quali pace is where you need to work on, but McLaren have obviously made a big step. Mercedes are super competitive as well. What have you got to do to haul yourself in on a Sunday afternoon? They've been very, very strong. McLaren have brought upgrades that are really working. And as I was saying earlier this season, I think it's a championship that will be won by upgrades. And we see that with McLaren. I hope we see that with ourselves once we put the next package of upgrades. And we'll see how it goes.
