How the parent skylarks feed their chicks

The nest is typically built inconspicuously on the ground, concealed amidst clumps of grass or within hollows in the field. The chicks are small, covered in dark brown down tinged with pale yellow, and they instinctively open their mouths wide upon hearing the mother bird's call or spotting her silhouette.
