What's up, it's your boy Super Mario 1990 coming at you with a Mission Impossible Final Reckoning
review, spoiler free. Um, I'm just simply gonna get to it. I'm just gonna get it out of the way.
I wasn't feeling it. I didn't like it. I hate to say it. And I did not see it coming.
I did not think it would ever be that. This is Bottom of the Barrel,
the worst Mission Impossible movie of the franchise in my eyes. I'm sorry. Like it
managed to be worse than Mission Impossible 2. I didn't even think you could even try to strive
for that. This movie manages to do so. I'm sorry. Um, and the main reason is two things that was
terribly wrong with this movie. Uh, the pacing. Pacing is terrible. The movie's three hours,
right? Now, I don't mind a three hour movie as long as you pack it with content, right? Like,
I don't mind it. Problem was, along with the bad pacing, focus. Two things that can ruin a movie,
or so I learned watching Final Reckoning. So this is the problem. If you've seen a Mission
Impossible movies, and I was so hyped up, man, I had a lot of hype built into this one because
I saw all seven of the movies. I mean, I've seen them all before, but like I purposely,
because I want all of them. I have, um, I got the first six on Blu-ray. I got the seventh one,
Day of Reckoning on 4k. So I watched my whole collection. You know, I'm watching all of them
and I'm like, cool. I'm like, oh yeah, okay. Cause I actually liked Day of Reckoning. Even
though a lot of people were kind of like mixed on that one. I liked it. It's not my favorite in
the series. Um, that I go back and forth between three and Fallout. Those are my two favorites,
but I was really hyped for this and Mission Impossible. If you've seen all the movies,
they all have the same exact kind of format and formula. Basically how it starts out is
they present the threat, right? Then they present the mission. Should you choose to accept it?
Right? And then after that, they present to you all the hurdles that the mission has,
all of these obstacles that you have to overcome. And then Ethan Hunt is that crazy dude
that only sees one way to accomplish the mission, the impossible, you know, way to accomplish it.
Like this is the only one way that we can do this and everything's got to be concise and on point.
And everybody kind of like, man, you're crazy, bro. But they all go along and do it anyway.
And then you kind of see the mission come together, but you don't see it, you know,
being completed as they planned it. There's always something, there's always some goof or
some baffle. And, you know, they just find a way to just improvise and always kind of
just go on the fly. But at the end of the day, they'll accomplish the mission, right?
That's the same formula that you see pretty much throughout all the Mission Impossible movies.
It doesn't stray away in Final Reckoning, but it's poorly executed. It's the poorest that it's
ever been executed in any Mission Impossible movie. And because of those two things I said
in the beginning, pacing and focus, this is what the movie does for three hours.
This movie is three hours for no reason, by the way. It literally could have been
a couple hours, even a little under that. My problem is they spend way too much time
presenting the threat, you know, the AI sentient from Dead Reckoning, which by the way,
that's a part one. We already know about that threat from the first movie.
The Final Reckoning, for whatever reason, they want to go in depth. They want to rehash and
go in depth further than what they did in Dead Reckoning about how dangerous the sentient AI is,
right? What its true goal is, how it wants to pretty much just wipe humans off the face of
the earth. Okay, cool. Great. We've seen this before in Terminator 2. We've seen it in The
Matrix. Like we've seen this theme in this story before. I've never seen the movie talk about it
so much. They spend an hour and a half going over how dire this threat is. I'm like, okay, great.
No Mission Impossible movie takes that long to explain the threat. Can we get to the mission and
can we get to like the setup of the mission and then get to the actual mission? This movie's
pacing is terrible because it takes way too long to talk about that stuff. And a lot of it is,
first of all, it's a very sad, somber, depressing mood and it's very redundant dialogue. It's like,
okay, we get it. Can we move on? I literally was looking at my watch every five minutes like,
are we still talking about the same thing? We're going to get to the action. Let's go,
right? They just keep beating over the head with how dangerous sentient is. I'm like, okay, great.
I get it. I got it in the last movie. There's no need to talk about it again. Let's just get to it.
And then even when they do the mission, right? The mission is always like cool and concise. They
always kind of like, this is what we're going to do. This is how we're going to execute it.
And they kind of like show you like the clips kind of, of like what Ethan's talking about,
what's going through his head. Sometimes it's funny because they'll show like an idea, but it's
not a good idea and they show how it fails. Right? So you don't really get a lot of that here. You
get the mission explanation, but the mission is overly explained to the point where it's like,
bro, I get it. Can I just see it unfold? And when you finally get to the mission,
like two hours later, you sitting there and you're watching it unfold and you're just like this the
whole time. Is this really it? We had all this talking and chit-chatting. The action that you
give me in return, this is it. That's it. That right there. This is what we spent all this time
talking about. This, this underwater scene. That's not even good. If you've seen all the
other Mission Impossible movies, there are so many cool action sequences I've seen.
The standout scene in this one is that plane sequence that everyone's talking about showing
the little IMAX. Like that's actually a good scene. Now for two reasons, first off,
it's basically recycled from Fallout, to be honest. Right? One of Fallout, I think this,
like I said, Fallout, MI3 and Fallout, those are like my favorite two Mission Impossible movies.
So for me personally, I'm like, okay, cool. That's cool how they did it. I like what Fallout
did better, but the scene in here does give it a room for its money. And Mission Impossible,
the series is no stranger to recycling its own scenes. Cause Fallout had a scene where when
Tom Cruise was going on rooftops, trying to chase Lark and Benji was like in his ear trying to like
guide him. Cause he had like the coordinates of both of them. Basically that scene was the same
exact scene from Mission Impossible 3 when Ethan Hunt's wife was kidnapped, but he didn't know
where in Shanghai cause he was drugged up and they had him in his place. He didn't know where he was.
He didn't know where his wife was. He didn't know how to navigate. So he called up Benji. Benji,
my wife's blah, blah, blah, blah. Where do I go? And Benji was like, oh, it's the same exact scene,
but they just did it in Fallout and they did it better. That's pretty much what Final Reckoning
did with the plane sequence. They took it from Fallout to helicopter sequence. I think the
helicopter sequence was better, but like I said, that's subjective. You know, you might like this
other one better. And now to me, I'm like, okay, the second reason why that scene is so good is
because that's the most exciting scene in the whole movie. Because the whole movie was 80%
buildup. I like, I'm not even just throwing that out there. Like I'm, I was literally looking at
my watch every five minutes. Like, bro, are we still talking? When are we going to get to the
actual action, the mission? You know, when are we going to get to the fun factor? This movie took
so much out of that. It's so depressing because they wanted to spend most of the dark tone and
most of the somber sadness on how high stakes this mission is. There's so much fluff that could have
been cut out. So much dialogue and conversation that could have just been cut out if they would
have just got to the meat and potatoes of what a Mission Impossible movie actually is.
They lost sight of that with over explaining the plot. The plot in a Mission Impossible movie
never need that much attention. They give the plot like 65% of the attention goes to the plot. I'm
like, bro, I would have liked to have seen sentient actually do stuff, right? They talk about sentient.
You don't see sentient in action much. Last movie kind of introduced sentient. Cool. Great. I liked
what I heard from a concept point. Now I thought if I don't reckon that I was going to see sentient
do stuff, right? No, they just talk about sentient and how bad it is and what it can do and what it
will do. We don't stop it. And I'm just like, oh, I thought it was going to be like fun stuff. No,
it's just a bunch of talking. And I'm like, bro, we don't need all that talking. This is Mission
Impossible. Get to the mission. Get to the impossible. You don't see a lot of that. And
when you do finally see the mission, the buildup took so long. The pacing was so long to get there.
When you get to the mission, it's exhausting. When I got to the plane scene,
it was good. But at the same time, I'm exhausted. Like it probably really is better than what I
thought it was. Maybe I have to watch it separately outside of the movie because
the journey that it took to even get to that scene, there was so much unnecessary
dialogue and so much unnecessary focus to the point where I'm just like, oh, man, cool.
Because I'm so tired, I'm fatigued. And, you know, I will say the one good thing about this
movie, like outside of that plane sequence, the tie-ins, there was a lot of fan service in this
movie. And that was one of the positives. But again, those first two things that I told you
about pacing and focus, it's so redundant that it even ruined those moments because I like the
series. And there was characters that popped up in here that you thought you would never see again
from a previous Mission Impossible movie, right? There were kind of subplots. There was like a plot
from Mission Impossible 3 that I really liked and was like, I wonder what they're going to do with
that or if they're ever going to do something with that or if they're ever going to come back.
It found its way into Final Reckoning in a cool way. But then that was for a moment and it got
bogged down with all this excessive sentientist this and that and humans are in trouble. What are
we going to do? They just went back to that so many times that the fan service that you did get,
it didn't shine as well as it should have because the focus keeps being on how do we
increase the level of this threat? It's already increased. It's there. Can we just get to actually
do what we're going to do about the threat? Can we get to the mission of how we're going
to destroy the threat? And they just spend too much time talking. And to me, that's what made
it the worst Mission Impossible movie. No other Mission Impossible movie does this much buildup.
And the crazy thing about it is you would forget this is supposed to be a part two. This is like
a part two kind of conclusion to what they started in Dead Reckoning that came before it. When I see
a part one, part two kind of saga, usually how it works is the first one does the building up,
and then the second one gets to the body and the conclusion. Okay, this is what we explained to
y'all the first time that was the problem, blah, blah, blah, blah. We talked about it.
Now we're going to do something about it. This movie is backwards. The first one was action
packed and it was almost three hours. You would forget that that movie was almost three hours,
but it packed so much content. It was heavy hitting. It was action packed. It was concise.
They explained the threat. They got to the mission. They executed the mission.
Then they execute the hurdles like, okay, this is blah, blah, blah, blah. Grace keeps stealing
stuff. Grace keeps being on the run. I'm sick of Grace. Can she, can she cooperate finally?
She don't recognize how serious this is. Oh, we finally got Grace on board. Now we'll be
going to wheel the train, blah, blah, blah, blah. They kept it moving constantly, right?
It wasn't too much talking, not too much exposition. This movie is backwards.
All the explaining and all the dialogue that should have probably been in dead reckoning
to introduce the threat. They want to save it for the final part. We want to go in,
we want to go in depth of how sentient is dangerous and what it can really do.
Shouldn't the first movie have done that? Shouldn't that have been in dead reckoning?
We're past that. Get to the action. No, they want to talk you to death and then get to the action.
It just don't work. I don't know. And then, you know, these long, you know, standing franchises
have been around since I was a kid, like from the nineties and all that, like when they have like
four or five, six movies, they've been having this trope lately. If you've seen bad boys three
or screen five, you know what I'm talking about? Like that, that screen five, that gut-wrenching
scene mission impossible final reckoning carries on that trope. You know, I ain't going to say what
it is. If you know what I'm talking about, you know what I'm talking about. And for no reason,
I didn't see a reason for it. It shouldn't have happened. And the movie doesn't have a strong
payoff behind that decision. So I just don't know. I don't know. I didn't get it. I just did not get
what they were trying to do with this movie overall. I just wasn't feeling it. I'm sorry.
I went on social media, just trying to like, see, cause I'm not the type of person to be like,
if you enjoy something, you enjoy something cool. Great. You know, cause I enjoy stuff that people
don't like all the time, you know, but I was trying to really find out what people liked about this
movie because a lot of people was just glazed it. Oh, this is great. And don't listen to the
critics. And they're just haters and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, I listened to the
critics and the reviewers. And the funny thing is I'd be feeling the same way. I'm like, usually
critics don't like what I normally like. I thought it was cool. Right. I'm seeing what the critics
are saying. And I'm like, I definitely saw exactly what you was talking about. This movie's pacing is
terrible. This movie is too long and bloated for no reason. I don't understand what the focus was.
Why did they do this, this, and this, and not enough of that, that, that, and that like we
got in previous mission impossibles. Right. So I'm seeing all of the complaints and I'm seeing people
praise it. And I'm like, I'm not hating on people liking the movie. If you like the movie, great.
I just want to just, I just want to understand why, like, what did I miss? I feel like I missed
something because to me, this is the worst mission impossible movie I've seen. It's the
worst pace movie I've seen outside of Matrix revolutions. Off the top of my head that I can
think of, Matrix revolutions was terribly paced. Well, it was just whack all around. I get the
same vibes from watching this one. I'm just like, I'm just not feeling it, you know, otherwise it's
a solid franchise, but final reckoning, this movie is so bad. I don't, it doesn't exist. That's what
I do with movies in the franchise. If I don't like them, like John Wick 4, I did not like John
Wick 4. John Wick 4 does not count to me. There's no John Wick 4. There was only three John Wick
movies. I'm doing the same thing in Final Reckoning. Final Reckoning doesn't count. Dead Reckoning has
a cliffhanger. We don't know what that key does. That's how, that's how I treat Final Reckoning.
It didn't happen. I might bring up Dead Reckoning and be like, man, I always wonder what happened
to that key. Oh no, man, Final Reckoning is clean. What? Who? What? They made the eighth
movie. No, they didn't. No, they didn't. I don't know what you're talking about. No, they didn't.
No, no, no. I mean, there was Final Reckoning. I don't know what you're talking about Final
Reckoning. I don't know what you're talking about. That one exists to me. This movie was that bad.
Like I just, I don't want to count it. I have all the movies. Like I said, like I got the first six
on blue. I got the seventh one on 4k. I don't even want the eighth one. I don't want it in my
collection. It was terrible. I just, I can't do it. And for anyone who already seen the movie,
please explain to me if you liked it, what you liked, because maybe I'm missing something.
I don't know. Maybe I do got to rewatch it. I don't know. But I just wasted my first three
hours. I could have spent that on taking a nap. Like I, that would have been more entertaining
than watching this. I just was not feeling this movie at all, man. I don't know if you liked it.
Let me know what you like about it, please. If you didn't like it, I'm pretty sure it was the
same reason I didn't like it. I'm out. Peace in.
