FOX's 'Battleground' returns ahead of midterm elections

We are less than 10 weeks away from the midterm elections. Both parties are gearing up for a fight over the control of Congress. Fox is bringing back a show to track the competitive races and joining me now S. E. Cup and Bill Anderson, hosts of battleground midterms. Good morning to you both. Good morning. It's one of you could take this question, but these midterms have become crucial to both Democrats and Republicans because this is basically a battle for control of Congress. True story. Yeah, yeah, it is absolutely a battle for control of Congress throughout the area. Tough races like the one that you have going on in Texas there for Senate, and we're gonna continue to track that on a daily basis on battleground. Yeah, it's control of the House control of the Senate control of the state houses. Who is going to be setting policy for us for the next two plus years? That's the big question. There's a lot, and there's a lot on the table. You've got issues like data centers. You've got issues like this new Canadian trade war. You've got issues in Texas over marijuana, right? I mean, every state's got something going on. They're all united by issues of affordability and the economy and an Iran war that's going on. We're gonna cover it all. Yeah, and Texas not necessarily usually a battleground state at all. But yeah, you're right. That Senate race is one to watch. I wanted to talk about Republicans for a second. What did they need to do to expand their narrow majority? Even as the president's polling numbers on the economy of definitely slipped since he was elected. Yeah, it's tough. They're running against in some ways Trump's narrative that affordability is not even a real issue, right? That it's that it's a hoax. They're running against that because they're hearing Republicans are from their own constituents that those are issues that matter. So that's tough. But as you know, in Texas, Trump's endorsement still goes pretty far. And we just saw last night in South Carolina. I think Trump's endorsement of Darlene Graham really helped her there in that Senate race. So in many ways, Trump is on the ballot, even though he's not. I think that and talking about that, that fight or hope to extend the Republicans, I think it has to be issues. You know, it is. We hear a lot about culture war. We hear a lot about division. We hear a lot about labels. And I think what the public is telling us is that they want to hear how you're gonna make things more affordable. They want to hear talk about the issues. You gotta do that. Yeah. Well, speaking of which, let me talk about Democrats for a second. They're going to try to win over moderates who are frustrated by the president's low approval ratings. But even those within the Democratic Party are saying there has to be more than that. We have to. Democratic leaders have to offer an alternative. Yeah, I think this is this is another theme of this election, and it's that rise of the far left progressive progressive wing of the party. And there's a lot of energy over there, and they're winning. They're winning primaries in places that might be surprising. The question will be, can they win in a general? Are people running as Democratic socialists, for example, gonna sound kooky to a lot of people in a general election? Or are they going to be able to convince a voting population that is sick of the status quo? Give me a shot. Give me a try. We're watching for all of those those contours as well. Sure, that labels thing applies regardless of party. If you're sitting there running the Democrat and you make it through a primary on a kind of far left agenda again, the labels aren't resonating. What are you going to tell people that will make them vote for you based on issues? Yeah. All right. Let folks know.
