Excavator clears vegetation to help fight Timber Fire

This spider excavator with a masquerading head allows us to get up this very steep and difficult terrain that wouldn't be accessible by tracked equipment. It has wheels that move in and out. It also has down riggers or feet that stabilize it so it allows it to go on really steep slopes and really rocky terrain. I mean yeah this piece of equipment allows us to clear the standing vegetation very quickly but at the same time the root structures are also left in place so the area that's cleared is stabilized. Those root structures oftentimes the vegetation will sprout from the roots so things will grow back relatively quickly and additionally the machine also masticates the vegetation so that leaves wood chips behind that all works to kind of filter the water and slow the flow of water and kind of filter it as it goes down the line when it starts to rain here during winter.
