Learn 2000 German Words Fast — English Cognates

English and German are cousins — both Germanic languages, split apart about 1,500 years ago but still sharing thousands of words. Hand is Hand. Finger is Finger. Winter is Winter. This course puts that inheritance to work: 2000 German words you can pick up quickly because you already half-know them. They're grouped by topic so the connections build on each other — family, clothing, animals, weather, food and drink, fruit and vegetables, plants and colours, the body, sport, computing, gemstones, cosmetics, materials, countries, instruments, grammatical terms, adjectives, verbs and time expressions. There are also sections on words German borrowed from Greek, French and Latin (which English borrowed too, from the same sources), plus modern Anglicisms that have entered German wholesale. And one section you'll want to pay attention to: false friends — the words that look identical and mean something else entirely. Gift, for instance, means poison. Every word comes with proper German pronunciation, and there's a vocabulary test at the end with answers.
