On Wednesday morning, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck the Tibetan side of the Nepal-China border, triggering an avalanche that temporarily dammed the Lhende River. Within minutes, the natural dam gave way, sending a devastating wall of water, mud, and debris through Nepal’s Rasuwa district and Tibet’s Gyirong County. The disaster destroyed critical infrastructure—including power lines, hydropower plants, and border bridges—and claimed at least 98 lives, leaving hundreds missing across Nepal and China. Among those unaccounted for are border workers, Indian pilgrims, and foreign tourists from the United States, Australia, Britain, Malaysia, and South Korea.
