As time progresses, we continue to learn more information about really what went on behind
closed doors that involved Raphael Devers and the rest of the front office for the Boston Red Sox
to really end up in this situation where they traded Raphael Devers to the San Francisco Giants
in exchange for... it's not enough. Simply not enough. I'm here to break down all of the new
information that we have as well as really just new ideas that go along with the Devers situation
and the relationship that they had in Boston. We'll break down all of that on this episode of
Red Sox Digest, but first, please do remember to subscribe to the channel to stay up to date on
everything Boston Red Sox. We do appreciate all the love and support, but now let's get to it
and break down how Devers going to San Fran is just... I don't know. I really don't.
The relationship between Raphael Devers and this Boston Red Sox organization is specifically the
office we knew and just was not great. From the start of the spring up until now, it wasn't perfect
by any means. There was the conversations about third. There was the conversations about DH.
There were conversations about first base when none of those conversations went over well.
Everyone had a feeling that the bridge was not fully burnt to the ground, but it was
definitely starting to catch on fire and it continued and it continued and it continued
and it got to the point where Craig Breslow, John Henry, and the rest of this front office for the
Boston Red Sox organization was simply... they were fed up and they decided to move the best player
on this Boston Red Sox roster to the San Francisco Giants. Now, there was a video out last night
breaking down the entirety of the trade. We're not going to actually break down who came back in
return in this trade as there's going to be an ample amount of videos on this conversation.
We're really just going to break down the new information that we have on Craig Breslow,
John Henry, and the rest of this front office and what to expect from them in the coming days. So,
we're going to cite Chris Colito about a thousand times on this channel. So,
go follow him on Twitter. Go follow him on X, all socials. He is arguably one of the better
reporters on the Red Sox walking right now. So, credit to Chris Colito for a lot of this
information, but now I am here to vocalize it in the sense on this channel. Craig Breslow and
Sam Kennedy will speak to reporters on Zoom at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and this was tweeted
today on June 16th around 11 o'clock in the morning. So, again, tonight expect both Breslow
and Kennedy to make their first real vocal appearances since making this massive blockbuster
trade dealing Devers to San Francisco just last night or yesterday afternoon. Again, speaking for
the first time tonight at 8 p.m., they did not speak yesterday before the trade happened. They
did not speak immediately after the trade was made and we have been all waiting in silence
really for a comment or just any form of just acknowledgement from these guys in the front
office, whether it be Henry, Breslow or Kennedy. Nothing has really been said from them yet and
now we have to wait until 8 p.m. tonight in order to hear any of their actual quotes and conversations
about what has taken place over the last 24 hours. Now, it doesn't end there. The idea that
was initially sparked once this trade took place and all of the major tweets started to fly,
whether it was from Robert Murray or whether it was from Jeff Passan or anyone else in between,
the major conversation piece was and the major point was did Devers demand his way out? Did he
go into the front office? Did he go speak to Breslow and Kennedy and Henry and Cora and say,
guys, I'm done. You guys asked me to play. You guys told me I wasn't playing third anymore. I'll
play DH. I dug my heels in. I didn't want to do that. I finally bent and I went and I said I'll
do it. I'll play DH. I will be the DH you guys want me to be and I'll allow Bregman to be the
starting defensive third baseman and then a little bit of time went by and you guys came to me and
said, hey, Tristan Kostas just went down for the year. You want to play first base and Devers
obviously totally shut it down. Now, post that, there wasn't a lot of conversations about how
Devers was unhappy. Devers was unsettled. There wasn't major quotes coming out from Raphael Devers
and his interpreter giving horrible just feelings and vibes around the clubhouse, but it felt like
things were starting to correct themselves. Devers was finding his role offensively. The Red Sox were
starting to win and win a lot, cutting the lead in the AL East a lot. They were down nine games
at one point. They're now down six and a half games and it's a lot better than it even seems
there as now they're just a half game back from a wild card spot. They are now a half a game above
500 or a game above 500 after winning three straight series all against AL East teams
in the Rays, in the Yankees twice. Once in New York, now once in Fenway where they
swept the New York Yankees and then boom, Devers is gone. Statistically the best player on this
team up to this point in the season offensively without a doubt. Someone who leads the league
and walks. Someone who has over a 900 OPS because of not only his ability to put bat the ball
and hit it extremely hard, but also to work accounts, work at bats and get the free pass
more than anyone else in the league. You guys know how I feel about this and I haven't even said it,
but this is dog ----. This is, this is big 2018 stuff and if you're like, well Houston just go
root for the Giants, go root for the Giants. No, I'm not a Giants fan. I've been a Red Sox fan since
I was in the second grade. Devers was a part of this team back in 2017. He was the only piece left
on this organization that was a champion with the Boston Red Sox back in 2018. Yes,
with the Mookie Betts team and the rest of all the studs that were a part of that team,
including Bogarts, another big name player that might've gotten paid a little bit too much,
but that was then sent immediately to San Diego. Mookie sent to the West Coast as well,
playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, where they're probably going to continue to win
and win and win and win. The Boston Red Sox are just, they never cease to amaze me. Never.
It's just, it's amazing. It's, I have no words. I really don't. It's amazing that Devers didn't
demand a trade and that Breslau and the rest of this front office just said, you know what,
after all of the drama, after all of the speculation, after all of the heated
arguments between the interpreter and the reporters and the rest of the Red Sox nation
and us including, and when I say us, I'm speaking hypothetically as Craig Breslau
in the front office. We're, you know, we're fed up. Let's move Devers. Let's just move the guy
who's walked 70 times already. Let's let, who has a 900 OPS, who has a 270 batting average,
who's having a great, or excuse me, I said 70 walks. He has 60 walks up to this point. He,
he has been phenomenal. He has been phenomenal. And yes, he started slow and yes, there was that
drama, but he has been a substantial piece to this Red Sox team who has been playing very,
very well up to this point. And yes, it did start slow, but over the last month, a month and a half,
the Red Sox are playing great baseball and it's not against bad teams, against the Rockies and
the White Sox and the Texas Rangers. They're beating substantial teams and teams in their
division that are ahead of them in their division, rivals in their division. And
you throw away the biggest piece offensively. And yes, you can make the argument. They want to turn
the page. They want to go to Roman and they want to go to Meyer and they want to go to Campbell
and they want to give these guys the next, they want to give them the keys and they want to allow
them to work with a clean slate and allow this to be a new Red Sox organization on a, that has a
clean slate that is being led by new players that haven't been here for a long time, that haven't
already won in Boston and they want to just restart. Why the **** are you doing it now?
After these wins, after these series wins and what, it doesn't make sense. It's not like Devers
was throwing up his hands and saying, this is bullshit. I'm not playing DH. I'm not having fun.
The fact that you asked me to play first is BS and I'm going to hold out until you trade me.
That's not what happened. All of the drama was behind us. Whether you're the part of the front
office, whether you're a part of the fan base, whether you're a player on the organization,
it was behind us for the most part. Why? Because the Red Sox continue to win and they were able to
exceed all of the June expectations in the sense that despite being what, eight games under 500,
nine games under 500 with a daunting schedule coming up where you played the Yankees three
games, the Rays three games and the Yankees once again for three more games before going out West
and playing against the Mariners who have been scorching hot to start this season
with an MVP candidate in Cal Raleigh and then you have the Giants second just behind the Dodgers
trading spots half game in and out of the the NL West and you say yeah we're we're gonna
I would love to know how you guys feel even though I did read some of the comments from
the last video that Sean Barry did on this channel where you guys told him to just flip
teams if you're so upset about it. Let me know down below what you guys think. I would love to
know because it's interesting. Giants will now maintain all of this contract from Raphael Devers
which is the only positive in this instance and it will lead to the next conversation we have on
this channel which will probably be the following video if it's not up already on how this off
season is going to look for the Red Sox and how they could spend all of the money they just saved
by sending Raphael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. It's I guess that's the best thing you
can take away from this is the cap room and if if that's what you want to label it the overall
luxury of having more room financially to do something in the in the idea of going out and
signing players this up and coming off season well again we are only in June June 16th there's a long
MLB season ahead of us one that almost feels like the Red Sox have shipped in and just said f it
we're we'll build for next year we'll you know we'll be fine and if you guys may be thinking well
the return wasn't that bad the return was actually pretty good well no it wasn't
no it wasn't Jordan Hicks has been absolutely horrible this year Kyle Harrison has been even
worse and he actually got optioned to AAA the second he was acquired by the Red Sox they
immediately optioned him to AAA so just yeah and then we got two other prospects which will break
down another video probably going to be posted by the time this one is posted so just stay on
the lookout for those Kyle but Jordan Hicks has not been great he's a flamethrower yes he throws
extremely hard but he also gets pieced in throwing that hard when you throw that hard and you give
up barrels the ball leaves an extremely fast race which means he gives up a lot of hard hit contact
and it results in extra base hits and home runs a lot of the time but again we'll close out with
this and the only person that deserves to be praised in this entire scenario is Buster Posey
FSU grad by the way one of the best players to ever come out of FSU one of the best catchers
to ever live now managing the Giants and well not managing but in in a way managing the Giants
and he goes on to say this Posey said he's been talking to the Red Sox about Devers for a few
weeks Posey quote the bat is so special it's really hard to acquire this type of talent and
at this point of his career it felt like this is a chance was a chance to take a shot and Posey's
100% right they're only a half game back or a whole game back from the Los Angeles Dodgers in
the west they're going to have a chance to continue to roll here and I'm just going to throw this out
there now and you'll probably hear me say this a hundred more times before it actually takes place
but this is the Red Sox upcoming schedule for this month yes they go out west and they play
the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series they have one day off which would be a Thursday the 19th
where then they will play in San Francisco for three games from the 20th to the 23rd
or excuse me the 22nd you can bet on Devers every single game that's just my overall opinion because
the run this kid I I genuinely hope the run that Raphael Raphael Devers goes on from June 20th to
June 22nd is one of Barry Bonds and I I don't mean that in an exaggerated form I I genuinely hope
the only way he doesn't just kill a baseball is if they intentionally walk it I hope he abuses
this Red Sox team in this three-game stretch I hope he goes 12 of 12 in these three-game stretch
and I hope he hits six home runs I really do and I wouldn't even like that's all I'm saying
let me know down below what you guys think about this and I'll see you guys on the next episode of
Red Sox Tactics
