North Bay Residence by Prentiss Architects is a 2,800-square-foot home on San Juan Island designed around its challenging natural setting. Rather than removing three mature trees, the architects shaped the compact plan around them, using a continuous stone wall to provide privacy from the road and organize the interior. A contrasting glass pavilion opens the main living spaces toward Griffin Bay, combining timber, steel, stone, and slate to create a balance between protection, durability, natural light, and strong visual connections to the surrounding landscape.
