Schubert’s Serenade (Ständchen) was published in 1828 as part of 《Schwanengesang (Swan Song), D. 957》, one of the collections published shortly before his death. Set to a poem by Ludwig Rellstab, the song portrays a lover quietly expressing his feelings beneath the night sky.

Schubert was renowned for his lyrical melodies, delicate harmonies, and extraordinary ability to transform poetry into music. In Serenade, a gentle, repeating accompaniment creates an intimate nocturnal atmosphere while the flowing melody conveys tenderness and longing. The piece has since been arranged for numerous instruments, including cello, and remains one of Schubert’s most beloved and recognizable melodies.
