If you'd like something really unique and easy to make for fall,
look no further than your own sock drawer. For stuffing, I'm using the insides of an old
cushion I had on hand, however any stuffing will do. To start, I'm cutting one sock starting at
the heel, then straight across. The sock is being stuffed until it can create a nice size ball
with a little left over on the top. I'm twisting the open end of the sock closed,
then with about 3 arms length of light toned string, I'm tying the sock closed,
leaving the short end on one side and the rest of the string on the other.
I'm now using the long side of the string to wrap around the sock,
tight enough to leave an indent. After one loop, I'm rotating the ball,
then wrapping it two more times, ensuring the string wrapping is spaced evenly on all sides.
I'm now wrapping the string around the top, then knotting it so it will stay secure.
To create a stem, I'm using twine to wrap around the top part tightly,
secured with hot glue once I reach the top, then cutting the left over fabric flush with the twine.
To fill in the stem top, I'm hot gluing some twine into a circular motion until it's filled in.
Grabbing for another colored sock, this time I'm adding more stuffing to make the pumpkin larger.
I'm also using twine for the body of this pumpkin. If you cut a long enough piece,
you'll be able to wrap the body shape plus the stem.
Other tips when wrapping the pumpkins is to align the sock ribbing vertical,
then wrap the twine along those lines. The lines should also crisscross each other on
the bottom center of the pumpkins. To accessorize the pumpkins,
I'm shopping the grapevine outdoors and clipping off some dried tendrils,
as well as gathering dried leaves in various sizes and tones.
I'm now hot gluing lighter leaves to the darker pumpkins,
and darker leaves to the lighter ones, then gluing tendrils to each.
Then group them all together to create the cutest fall pumpkin arrangement in the land.
The neutral tones make these pumpkins the perfect accessories for nearly any home decor style,
and with the combined twine stems, real leaves, and tendrils,
they are both a little rustic and realistic for that perfect fall touch.
I hope this inspires you to snoop through your own sock drawer
to see what sock pumpkins you come up with.
