In this video, I’ll show you how I draw a face from a photo using simple shapes, proportions, tonal values and observation instead of relying on complicated construction lines. If you struggle with portrait sketching, facial proportions, shading, or making your drawing actually look like the reference, this tutorial will help you simplify the process.
We’ll go from the first loose sketch all the way to the finished graphite portrait. I’ll show you how to block in the head, place the main features, compare angles and shapes, introduce midtones early, build shadows, strengthen contrast and refine the likeness without overworking the drawing.
