Video Summary
AI GeneratedJenna creates a life-size Spider-Man bust using a chainsaw to decorate her home's retro movie room. The process involves rough carving, detailed muscle sculpting, painting with iridescent and red finishes, and a meticulous process of embedding black yarn into carved grooves to simulate webbing.
This carving of the month was sponsored by Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Visitors Bureau,
home of the Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous. So my husband and I are making this retro movie room
in our house and we thought it would be so cool to have a superhero, a life-size superhero,
in the movie room. And while I was looking up how much they are, they're a lot of money,
thousands of dollars. So I thought, Jenna, you could just make one. So that's what we're going
to do today. I'm going to chainsaw carve a life-size Spider-Man bus. Okay, so I actually
have a log sitting here that is going to be perfect for my Spider-Man. So let's pick him
up and put him on my hydraulic lift table so I can get carving. I'm trying to get my spider senses,
senses? Is that the word that I'm looking for? Spider sensey. I shouldn't talk. I'm trying to
get my spidey senses on. I'm listening to the whole, any Spider-Man playlist that I can find.
That's what I'm going to be jamming out to during the entire process here. I'm going to give him a
little bit of neck here and then his head's going to be tilted. That looks a little bit better.
Okay, this is a super rough sketch, but I think we're going to make it work. It has to work.
Breakfast. Pearl mix. Honey nuts. Okay, enough snacking because we gotta go. I'm hoping that
this first process goes really, really quickly. The blocking stage, just get those big chunks
out of the way and then we gotta, we gotta go. We gotta grind this thing out.
All right, I feel like I'm making pretty good time on my Spider-Man bust here. He's pretty big,
like you can just see compared to me. These are his shoulders. He's got very broad shoulders.
And I have not made a lot of humans and even though Spider-Man is in his whole suit,
he's still a human. So I have to do some muscles now and I'm still learning how to put muscles on
figures. So this is going to be a good challenge. But I feel pretty good with the shape that I have.
I have his head turned a little bit, which is what I wanted. I need to clean up the base a little bit.
I don't want to take too much off the base because then the piece won't be sturdy and it will tip
over. I'm gonna do a little bit more shaping with a smaller chainsaw that I have to take away all
of the harsh edges and then I'll do some drawing. So far, I'm feeling pretty good.
He's turning out! He's coming together! This is so cool. Okay, so I'm gonna pause on carving
real quick and just kind of sand the whole body down because I'll be able to see what I need to
do next. So I want to give him like a quick quick sand down, smooth everything out a little bit
better, and then we'll go from there. But I'm excited. Okay, I did some sanding and did a little
bit of drawing and now I am shaping a little bit more. Muscles are so hard. They're so hard
and I thought this would be easier easier than what it is and it's it's not easy. This is not
easy. Humans are hard. So right now, I'm just trying to get all these muscles to like really
pop out and make sure that it's correct too. Like I don't want to like make up a muscle. The neck,
there's so much like ligaments in the neck that's all like stretchy and there's like
divots and I just want to make sure I get that right. So we are on day two of our Spider-Man
here and little did you know Spider-Man actually loves Chainsaw Jenna hats and you can go to
ChainsawJenna.com and get your Chainsaw Jenna hat so you could be matching future Spider-Man here.
Okay, so I am just gonna really smooth out his head as much as I can and then I'll do
some drawing. I got a little bit of sanding I need to do here and there. This is gonna take a
bit. Just want to like rub his head but now I'm going to go ahead and start drawing his
eyes which is gonna be kind of tricky. I feel like his head's a little too big but we're just
gonna go with it. So I'm just gonna pause us right here. We did not go with it. Well, we tried. I
carved out his eyes but I kept thinking his head was way too big so I cut it. I'm not liking the
at all. The eyes are not right. So here we are with Spider-Man. I got his eyes all carved out
and I sanded all around him so it looks nice and smooth and now for the most tedious part of the
whole project. I'm already tired. So I'm going to draw all of the webbing on my entire Spider-Man
bust here and then I'm going to go over with my Dremel, whatever it is, right here. I'm going to
put a bit on it and make a groove. I'm going to make a slot and the groove, the slot is going to
be where the string and this will be covered with Flex Seal. The string will go into the slot.
So now let's draw it out. Dremel and then I'll get back to you.
Alright, so I have Spider-Man all prepped up for painting. He looks like a masked burglar,
some ninja. I'm sealing up a couple inventory and guys, you can always check ChainsawJamma.com
for inventory that I have that I work on in between these big projects so definitely check
out. I try to update it as much as I can. As soon as I'm done with the carving, I put it on. So
check out ChainsawJamma.com. I have iridescent paint and I think it would look really really
cool if the center was iridescent paint but I need it to be black first in order for the
iridescent to pop. Nothing. I'm so over these cans. So over these cans. I just put a new cap on.
Take two. This one works.
It's dry for the most part. I'm gonna put this iridescent paint on it. Last time I used this
paint, I actually created my first hummingbird and you can watch that video after you watch
this video. So go check that one out after this one. Oh yeah, that's pretty cool. Look at it. It's
like chalky, milky. I don't want this to run. Of course it's running.
Look how it just shimmers in the sun. Guys, I think that this is the first time that Spider-Man
is actually starting to look a little bit like Spider-Man. A little bit. We're almost there.
The paint is just bringing him to life. I'm gonna, oh my gosh, I had a wasp land on my hand.
That was crazy. But I'm gonna let this paint dry. But while this is drying,
I'm going to cover up his eyes and paint him red.
So when I'm carving, I like go in waves when I'm working on my piece. I'm like, I hate it. I love
it. I hate it. I love it. I want to quit. I need to keep going. I want to keep going. It's like a
huge, crazy roller coaster that I'm on. And right now, I'm in the stage of loving it. Loving it.
I'm going to let this dry. And then once this completely dries, we'll take his eyes,
take that off, touch up everything, and then we'll put his webbing on. That's really gonna
make him look like Spider-Man. Okay, now time for the reveal. I'm so excited. It's not the final
reveal. Yeah, we're not doing the final reveal, but just like what it looks like. I love the red.
It just like makes his muscles pop so much. There is a lot of touch-up that we are going to do
with him, but I just want to like, I can't wait anymore. I need this. This is what I do. I have
this like little container and I put all my tacks in here. Yeah, there's definitely some touch-up we
need to do around his eyes, but oh my goodness. I cannot pull these off fast enough.
There's some touch-up. Okay, a little bit of touch-up. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I love it.
I'm gonna do the touch-up on him and then we're gonna let this paint dry before we do the webbing.
Okay, so before we start the webbing, you know that phrase, work smarter not harder? Well,
I have made it way harder for myself, so let's go take a road trip and try to fix my problem here.
Okay, so my original plan was to take the brown twine that I already had, dip it in Flex Seal,
and then put it on the Spider-Man for his spider web, but then I got to thinking, why don't I just
go to Michael's and buy some black twine so I'm not flinging Flex Seal all over him and making
a mess. So let's go buy some black twine. Okay, there's got to be some twine in here somewhere
that's black. I brought a little piece of my brown twine to get the right size because
I don't want to buy the wrong size. That would be bad. Then we would be back here.
So I think we're going to use yarn because this string is just way too thin. I need something
a little bit thicker. So there's a couple different blacks, but I think this one's
going to be the closest to size. Yeah. So we're going to go with this and I'm going to
dunk it in Modge Podge and that's what's going to hold it. It's an exterior Modge Podge,
so it should work. You're probably like, why don't you just carve the webbing? Well,
I'm trying to use other elements, so this will be fun. Let's go. Now that we're back, I am going to
take this brown webbing. This is going to be our test run. We're going to do this one in the back
because hopefully you won't really notice it. But this twine is just so hairy and I tried burning
away the fuzzies and that kind of worked. Yada, yada, yada. So we're going to use this yarn instead
and I'm really hoping that this Modge Podge dries clear because it makes me nervous because if it
doesn't dry clear, then it's going to mess up my entire project. And I've already spent way too
much time on him already. I'm already over time here. Oh, that's like, yarn is sticking pretty
good. So it's a, it's slightly thicker than the twine I was using, which is fine. It's not much,
but hopefully it's enough. We don't need a huge amount. Okay. Oh, I'm so nervous. Okay. We're just
going to stick this whole yarn in here and just coat it up like crazy. Coat, coat, coat, coat.
You can't even see it. Okay. I'm going to try to get this out here. This is where it's going to
get so messy. And if you know me, I actually don't like messes. Ew, this is so gross. Moment of truth.
I really hope this works. Oh, my anxiety. And it did dry clear, which that was the biggest concern
was, was it actually going to dry clear? And it did. You can't even tell where there was a little
bit of putty on the red. So I'm just going to keep going and see what happens. I am already an
hour and 20 minutes into this, and this is how far I've gotten. This is going to take me a long time
to finish up. I haven't even started the actual like hooping, like looping the webbing. It's just
been me dry fitting, taking it off, putting it into the putty. After many hours of making this
life-sized Spider-Man bust for our retro movie room, we are done. We are finally done with
Spider-Man. Are you ready? I did something new. I put paper on him so I can rip him open like a
giant present. Spider-Man.
