What if a few simple daily habits could completely change the direction of your life? In this video, discover the exact 5 things I did every day to build better habits, improve my mindset, stay focused, and make meaningful progress.
These practical lessons can help you create a more intentional routine, become more disciplined, and take small but consistent steps toward your goals. You don't need to change everything at once—small daily actions can make a meaningful difference over time.
The speaker explains that transforming one's life requires replacing \"minimum wage habits\" with the disciplined routines of successful people. By utilizing the \"Rule of Five\" and focusing on consistency over intensity, she demonstrates how prayer, continuous education, goal visualization, and positive declarations can lead an individual from personal crisis to professional and spiritual breakthrough.
So real quick, how many of you have never heard me before?
Raise your hand.
Oh, dear Lord.
Okay.
So I know I don't look like a minister.
I don't sound like one.
I don't sound like an adult,
but I was speaking at this conference in Florida years ago
and this lady came up to me afterwards and she goes,
oh my gosh, you sound just like my daughter.
I said, really, is she here tonight?
She said, no, she's four.
I said, I didn't think it was that funny,
but this lady in Austin said to me,
one time she said, I know why you sound like a kid.
I said, please tell me why.
She said, because most of us stopped dreaming
when we were kids.
And she said, you speak to the child in us
to get your dreams back.
So there's a purpose, right?
So I'm gonna help you.
I know all of you are dreamers,
but I'm gonna help you take it to another level today.
So I wanna share with you the five habits
of the most successful people in the world.
The five habits of the most successful people in the world.
Why?
Because if you'll change your habits,
you can change your whole life.
So let me start out with a story.
So years ago, John Maxwell was speaking at a conference
and he agreed to do a Q&A at the end.
And there was this young kid who had just graduated
with an MBA and he walked into this conference
and he is just admiring everything about the conference.
Now I want you to imagine there's 2,000 people
in attendance who paid $2,000 each.
I'm gonna get my pocket calculator and do some math, okay?
So 2,000 times 2,000, $4 million in one weekend.
So the kid says to John Maxwell, I wanna do what you do.
Maxwell said, what do you think I do?
He said, well, you speak at these events,
you write bestselling books, you impact lives.
He said, I wanna do that.
And John Maxwell said, young man,
it's not a matter of doing what I do.
The question is, do you wanna do what I did
so you can do what I do?
And then he said, well, I wanna lead a company
or a department or a team.
He said, where do I start?
Maxwell said, good question, start with you.
He said, if you wouldn't follow yourself,
why would anyone else wanna follow you?
Now here's my point.
You can't have a million dollar dream
with minimum wage habits.
You can't have a million dollar dream
with minimum wage habits.
So if you'll change your habits,
you can change your whole life.
So John Maxwell has something that he calls
the rule of five.
I'm gonna lay this, I'll put this down
so y'all can see me better.
Have y'all heard of the rule of five, anybody?
Okay, so Maxwell says to imagine there's a tree
in your backyard and you pick up an ax,
which I happen to have, and you swing.
Okay, it's a plastic one.
Okay, but you swing at this tree five times
and you put the ax down.
You pick it up the next day, swing at the tree five times,
put the ax down.
Every single day, if you swing at a tree five times,
he says, what eventually is gonna happen?
It's gonna fall.
He said, we don't have to debate this.
And he said, notice I didn't say 50 times or 500 times,
just five simple swings every single day,
the tree's gonna fall.
Well, Maxwell says this, find your tree.
What is your tree, your dream, your vision, your goal,
that if you were to do five things every single day
in the direction of your dream,
mountains of impossible dreams would begin to fall down?
Well, the reason I share that is because that's exactly
what happened in my life years ago.
So God's done some amazing things in my life and ministry.
I feel like the least likely person
to be doing what I'm doing.
We have over 50 million views on YouTube.
I host a TV show called Live Your Dreams.
I've written 15 books in 15 years.
We bought three-story headquarters on the lake
outside of Dallas, Texas.
I mean, I give God all the glory for this.
But to appreciate all that,
you have to know the backstory, don't you?
So just to sum this up real quick,
I don't wanna get into a lot of it,
but I grew up in such a strong, word-of-faith home,
and I was kind of a happy-go-lucky girl.
I was a cheerleader all through high school.
I was the homecoming queen.
I even dated the quarterback.
I was hiding so much pain behind a big smile
that nobody knew about.
And at 14 years old, never dreamed in a million years
this would happen to me.
14 years old, I was raped by a guy at a fitness center.
Lost my virginity on a gym floor by a complete stranger.
And I don't know if you've ever heard this phrase before,
but you behave in a manner consistent
with how you see yourself.
After that happened,
I saw myself as the ugliest person in the world.
I thought I was worthless, ugly, uninteresting,
or that wouldn't have happened to me.
And I got into a relationship with a guy
that became abusive,
stayed with him for two and a half years
because of how bad I felt about myself.
Everything from him choking me, strangling me,
banging my head on a steering wheel.
And I stayed with him for two and a half years,
hiding all of this behind a big smile.
Finally got out of that relationship.
And my last semester at Texas Tech University,
right before I graduated, I got pregnant before marriage.
And I felt like the biggest failure.
My dad's a well-known minister.
I'm gonna disgrace his ministry.
I was laying in my apartment in Lubbock, Texas,
scribbling in my journal, I want to die.
Cause I thought I'm gonna be the biggest embarrassment
of the Savelle family.
So I told my roommates, I said,
I can't bear to tell my parents what I've done.
I said, I'm just gonna run away.
I'm just gonna head West.
And my roommate Teresa said, no, you're not.
You don't even know which way is West.
Which is true.
But she said, we're gonna get through this.
So three weeks after I found out I was pregnant,
I got married.
My dad and Kenneth Copeland performed the wedding.
I was so embarrassed.
Three weeks after the wedding, I lost the baby.
So I just felt like I was just going in a downward spiral
of just being a failure.
So we stayed married, but what happened was 11 years later,
it's 2002.
And all of a sudden I look at my life.
I'm separated from my husband now.
I'm living paycheck to paycheck.
I have no money in my savings account.
I pay my credit cards every month, my car note every month.
I have a five-year-old little girl by now.
My house was a mess.
I was a mess.
I had no vision for life.
And I sort of just looked into my future and realized,
unless I make a radical decision to change,
this isn't gonna be just like a season of regret.
This is gonna be a life of regret.
And I didn't have a success coach come to the house
and lay out a growth track for me.
I just got desperate for change.
And I sat down and I said, I'm gonna make myself
do five things every day for 21 days.
I never dreamed in a million years,
these five things were some of the five habits
of the most successful people in the world.
Are you ready?
Okay, change your habits, you'll change your whole life.
Okay, so number one, the first habit
is to pray and meditate, to pray and meditate.
So what I mean by this is obviously,
you know, successful people meditate.
Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Paul McCartney,
Jerry Seinfeld, Steve Harvey, they all meditate.
I keep in mind, many of them communicate with the universe.
We communicate with the creator of the universe, right?
So I found out that, and this is what my dad told me.
Some of you know my dad, Jerry Savelle.
My dad, my hero, yes.
So dad told me, he said,
anytime you go into your prayer room,
always take two things.
He said, take a journal and take a pen.
I'm from Texas, this is just a normal pencil, okay?
But he said, take a journal and take a pen
and practice hearing God's voice.
And whatever comes up in your spirit, write it down.
Now I thought, if I ever hear God speak,
he'll probably say, I will smite thee with my nostrils,
you know, or something like that.
Found out that's not God,
that's Jim Carrey from Bruce Almighty, but anyway.
So he said, practice hearing the voice of God.
Well, I found out later, Jim Rohn,
one of the great motivators,
he said, successful people keep a journal.
He said, a life worth living is a life worth recording.
And the reason why you wanna keep track
of what you're hearing is because, you know,
the number one reason is because you'll forget.
And when you hear something valuable, write it down.
When you're not even sure, is that God or just me?
Write it down.
When you need clarity and direction for your life,
write it down.
So clarity comes from questions.
When you start asking yourself, what's bothering me?
And you write it down.
What do I need to stop?
What's working?
What's not working?
What would I tell someone else in my situation?
Clarity comes from questions.
So Jeremiah 30 verse two says this,
write all the words I've spoken to you in a book.
So God told us to journal our time with him.
And I'm telling you, this habit right here
will give you more direction for your life
than you ever dreamed possible.
Okay, number two.
The second habit of successful people is they read.
They read lots of books.
Now, let me tell you this.
So when I graduated from Texas Tech,
we had this big party in Lubbock.
My whole family came to El Chico's,
you know, the little Mexican restaurant.
I had my cap and gown on.
I walked in El Chico's and I think I made
the dumbest announcement I could ever make.
I said, I will never study again.
I thought I paid my dues.
I graduated with honors.
I will never pick up another book
because I hated reading.
The only books I ever read for pleasure
was a book about gymnastics
and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Manual.
That was it, okay?
So I said, I will never study again.
Well, the sad thing is I backed up my dumb promise
for 11 years of my life.
So for 11 years, like I told you,
lived paycheck to paycheck,
paid my car note, paid my credit cards,
no money in my savings.
But let me tell you what my routine was.
I was working for my dad as a ghostwriter,
but this is what my routine was.
I would wake up at the last minute to go to work,
jump in the car, turn on the radio,
sing and dance all the way to the office,
work hard on my job, five o'clock,
get back in the car, sing and dance all the way home,
turn on the TV and watch it for hours
and do it again the next day
and do it again the next day.
I was more interested in watching other people
live their dream than me go after mine.
Until 2002, when I said I'm gonna force myself to read.
So I picked up one book
and I even set the alarm on my phone for 20 minutes.
I said, I'm gonna make myself read for 20 minutes.
So I started reading and it felt like torture.
I kept checking the clock and I kept reading.
But all of a sudden something surprising began to happen.
The more I read, the more I began to learn.
The more I learned, the more I began to earn.
Do you know what happened the next 11 years of my life?
I went from ghostwriting books for my dad
to authoring books.
I went from attending conferences
to speaking at conferences.
I went from watching TV for hours to hosting a TV show.
What happened is I began to grow,
everything around me began to grow.
My opportunities, my relationships, my career,
my salary, my house, my vacations.
Everything grows when you grow.
I like to call it the key to success.
You wanna see this?
K-E-Y.
The key to success is K-E-Y, keep educating yourself.
Keep educating yourself.
So let me tell you a true story
about a guy named Jim Rohn, I mentioned him earlier.
Jim Rohn, when he was first starting out,
he said he was struggling in life,
he had pennies in his pocket, nothing in the bank.
He said he blamed everybody for where he was in life.
And all of a sudden this very wealthy man
named Earl Shelf began to mentor him,
took him under his wing, began to teach him success.
All of a sudden Jim's complaining about everything
and his mentor said to him,
Jim, what you have at this moment in your life,
you have attracted by the person you've become.
Well, Jim was very offended by that,
so he said he held up his paycheck to this wealthy man
and he said, you don't understand.
He said, this is all they pay.
His mentor said, no, this is all they pay you.
He said, they pay others more.
This is what they pay you.
But then he began to teach him success in a loving way.
He said, Jim, don't wish it was easier,
wish you were better.
Don't wish for less problems, wish for more skills.
And then he taught him this powerful phrase
and if you really listen to this,
it can change your life the way it changed mine.
He said, learn to work harder on yourself
than you do on your job.
He said, if you work hard on your job, you'll make a living.
If you work hard on yourself, you can make a fortune.
You want me to repeat it?
He said, learn to work harder on yourself
than you do on your job.
If you work hard on your job, you'll make a living.
If you work hard on yourself, you can make a fortune.
Well, within five years, Jim Rohn was a millionaire.
Learn to work harder on yourself.
So you got the first two?
Okay, the third habit, number three, is to listen.
And you know, I think my voice is doing it again, Carrie.
I am starting to sound like Joyce Meyer.
I think it's the altitude.
Something up here messes with me.
Wow, a little bit like a dude.
I kind of sound like a dude.
So are y'all okay?
Can you, you're still getting it?
Okay, it's not a dude.
Okay, so the third habit, number three,
is to listen to audio teaching, to listen.
So yes, you got to read books,
but the third habit is to listen to faith-building messages.
So let me tell you how this started.
So at that time in my life,
I told you my life's falling apart.
My marriage is falling apart.
I'm separated from my husband.
I'm gonna do these five habits.
I said, I'm gonna make myself listen
to faith-building messages, at least one,
every single day for 21 days.
Now, keep in mind, I wasn't disciplined back then.
So I thought, if I'm really gonna do this
and be consistent, when am I gonna do it?
I thought, well, I could do it in the morning
while I'm getting ready,
because I got to get ready anyway.
Takes a long time to look like this.
So you have no idea.
So I got a little post-it and I wrote, push play.
I'm not exaggerating.
I put this pink post-it on my bathroom mirror, push play.
I got a CD player.
Keep in mind, this is 2002.
Got a CD player, went to my parents' house.
I stole a bunch of their faith-building CDs,
went back to my bathroom, and I'll never forget that.
First morning, I walked in there and I was like,
oh yeah, push play.
So I push play, and I'm hearing God's word,
hearing God's word, hearing God's word.
Now keep in mind, when you're hearing God's word,
you know this, it's not like having the prices right on
in the background.
God's word gets down on the inside of you
and it changes you from the inside out, doesn't it?
So I'm hearing God's word,
and I'm hearing all these principles about success.
And I remember hearing John Maxwell make this statement.
This was in the first 21 day period.
He goes, if I could come to your house
and watch you for 24 hours,
I could tell whether or not
you're gonna be a success or a failure.
I thought, my gosh, how?
He said, you pick the day,
but let me just watch you from the moment you wake up
until you go to bed that night.
He said, just by observing you in one day,
I can tell in what direction your life is gonna go.
Then he said this, the reason I say that
is because the secret of your future
is hidden in your daily routine.
The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.
Well, after I heard Maxwell say that,
at the end of 21 days, I said,
well, I'm gonna go for 30 days.
Well, then I went for two months.
Then I went for three months.
That was in 2002, and I have never stopped.
This morning, I woke up at the Buffalo Lodge
and I push play, and I'm hearing God's word,
hearing God's word.
But you know, I remember hearing things like,
I heard a story about a guy who,
he said one day, you know, he was just struggling in life.
He's in debt, his life's not doing good,
and he just happened to look around at his closest friends,
and he realized two things.
They hate hard work, and they have no intention
or desire to improve their lives.
So he said he walked up to this very wealthy,
very successful man, and he said,
how did you become so successful?
He said, the wealthy man said four words,
just four words, keep the right company.
Keep the right company.
So he said, I went home and I made a list.
He said, if someone could drag me down,
I put their name on the list,
and I spent no more than five minutes with them.
If someone could improve my life,
I put their name on the list,
and I spent as much time as possible with them.
He said, after following the make it or break it list,
within three years, he was a millionaire.
Keep the right company.
Now, how did I learn this simple thing right here?
While I'm gluing my eyelashes on in the morning,
I'm learning this, right?
So I remember another story I heard.
Thank you.
Another story, this guy, Jeff Arch, this is a true story.
He said, he ran a successful karate school.
He was married, he had two kids.
His life wasn't bad, but all of a sudden,
at four o'clock in the morning, he couldn't sleep.
He goes in his den, he turns on the TV,
and he's watching this motivational speaker.
And as he's listening to what they're saying,
he's sitting there thinking,
I never wanted to run a karate school.
This is not what I wanted to do in my life.
I always wanted to be a script writer.
And then he keeps listening to this guy,
and he says, how am I gonna tell my kids
to go after their dream if I won't even go after mine?
So he said, while I'm sitting there
at four o'clock in the morning,
I made myself two promises.
He said, number one,
I'm gonna purchase what they're selling.
I'm gonna invest in myself.
Number two, I'm gonna make myself finish it.
When it shows up at the door, these audios, these books,
I'm gonna make myself do it.
So he said, when the product arrived,
he kept his promise to himself.
He's listening to audios,
using his drive time to listen to audios.
He's reading books, reading books.
Within one month, he ended up writing a script for a movie.
Within three months,
he sold it for a quarter of a million dollars.
That script went on to become a big hit
with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan called Sleepless in Seattle.
And it all began by investing in his personal growth.
We can do this, can't we?
So it's the secret of your future
is hidden in your daily routine.
So I wanna challenge you to start those three habits.
Are you ready for the fourth one?
The fourth habit is probably the one I'm known for the most.
And that is to write and review your dreams and goals.
Write your dreams and goals.
So Proverbs 29, 18 says,
We know that.
You know, you will never leave where you are
until you see where you'd rather be.
You'll never leave where you are
until you see where you'd rather be.
So I think I shared this with the ladies last time.
I usually use an example of rain,
but since we're in Colorado, I'm gonna use snow.
Let's just imagine that it is pouring down snow outside.
And as soon as class is over,
you jump in your car, it's pouring down snow.
You turn on the car, it works fine.
The heater works, the radio works, lights work,
everything works, it's pouring down snow,
except for one thing, the windshield wiper,
which I just happen to have.
You know, you're not going anywhere.
See, as long as your vision is impaired,
you'll stay where you are.
It's the same with life.
As long as your vision is impaired,
you'll be exactly where you are today,
next year at this time.
How many of you don't want that?
You wanna be so much further along, don't we?
So you have to have a vision,
but you also have to take the time to write the vision.
So Habakkuk 2.2 says, write the vision, make it plain.
So when I began learning this
as I'm pushing play in the morning,
and I'm hearing these principles,
that successful people write their dreams and goals.
Jim Carrey, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres,
Justin Timberlake, Drake,
they write their dreams and goals and they get results.
How much more should we as believers
do what God said to do, write our dreams and goals, right?
So I remember hearing a story
about this professor at Virginia Tech.
He said he just walked up to random people on the street
and he just asked them one question.
He said, what are your dreams for life?
Like, what are your goals?
He said, 80% of the people he asked said,
I don't know, I don't have any goals.
So think of 80% of people walking around
with absolutely no vision for their lives.
Without a vision, we perish, right?
He said, 16% said, I have some goals,
but I've never written them down.
3% said, I've written my goals at some point,
but I don't know where they are.
1% said, I have goals, I've written them down,
and I review them on a consistent basis.
He said, do you know who the 1% were?
Millionaires.
And the clues these millionaires gave us,
number one, I have goals.
Number two, I don't leave them in my head.
I actually grab a pen and write them down.
And number three, I look at them consistently.
Well, when I began to hear that, I thought,
well, then I'm gonna do it.
If they can do it, then I'm just gonna try it.
So I'm just gonna share a few random ones here in my book
that I just started writing down.
These are not in any order of how they happen,
but just random dreams.
So I said, you know, I see myself writing books.
So I posed in front of a bookstore,
acting like I'm a successful author.
I hadn't even written a book when I did this, okay?
And then I said, I want my books translated
into five different languages.
So I wrote them all out and I put a map of every country
that I wanted them translated.
I speak English and French,
but for some reason I also wanted them in German.
I've never been to Germany, don't know anyone in Germany.
So I just put a map of Germany in my dream book.
I said, my books are translated in German.
Then I said, I wanna impact young girls
in safe houses and girls' homes,
teach them how to make their dreams
bigger than their memories.
I don't know how to do that,
but I would just put a picture of young women in my book.
I, one day I just Googled, I said,
what is the biggest church in America?
Joel Osteen's church popped up, Lakewood.
So I put a picture of the Lakewood sign and said,
I'm invited to speak at the biggest church in America.
I wasn't even invited to the little church at the barn.
Okay, so I put this,
I put a fake picture of me and John Maxwell.
My assistant Donna did this for me.
We got a picture of Maxwell and me,
cut it together, squeezed this together.
And I said, I speak at events with John Maxwell.
I was just making the dream come alive, right?
By seeing it.
Well, here's what I began to discover.
There's a principle in God's word
that you become what you behold.
You become what you behold.
Whatever you keep before your eyes
will eventually show up in your life.
So just the ones I share with you right now,
here's one of the first times I walked in Barnes & Noble
and actually saw my books on a shelf.
Here's the dream, here's the reality.
Here I am, after I put a map of Germany in my dream book,
seven months later, my assistant Donna got an email
from a man in Stuttgart, Germany,
inviting me to come speak at a conference.
But at the end of the email, it said,
if Terry agrees to come, I want to let you know
the publisher of the largest publishing house in Germany
wants to talk to her about getting her books in German.
Here I am in Germany with,
I think we have seven or eight books now in German.
Here we are, our vision board course
is in girls' homes and safe houses all across America.
There's the vision, there's the reality.
Here I am, I was coming out of a conference in Missouri.
I was being driven back to the airport
and all of a sudden this text pops up on my phone
and it says, hey Terry, this is Victoria Osteen,
I want to invite you to speak at my conference
at Lakewood Church.
This picture right here was a picture of the Lakewood sign
that I just Googled one day and put in the dream book.
Victoria picked me up that night,
drove me to the conference,
and as we're pulling in the garage,
I just happened to glance over
and there was the very sign I Googled
and took a picture of.
I whipped my phone out, took a picture,
and I just had to fight back the tears.
And one more I'll show you is,
here I am speaking at events with John Maxwell, right?
But my point is, your dreams don't intimidate God.
God just wants you to do what he said to do.
He's the one who said to have a vision.
He's the one who said take the time to write the vision.
He also said to keep it before your eyes.
Now let me tell you real quick,
the business world, the success world,
they call this the law of attraction.
You've probably heard that.
And they get real goofy with it, you know.
But you know the law of attraction really is Proverbs 23, 7.
As a man thinks in his heart, so does he become.
What you think about, you bring about, right?
So let me just tell you real quick,
because you might look at this and be like,
well, good for you, Terry.
What about my dreams?
I didn't say all that to brag.
I'm just trying to tell you
that God is no respecter of persons.
He just wants us to do what he said to do, right?
So let me tell you a story real quick
that'll help you get clear on what you want.
Because clarity is one of the single
most important keys to success.
Get clear on what you want.
So a friend of mine had the opportunity
to minister to this famous actor in Hollywood,
and he also produces films.
So when he walked into this actor's house,
he saw this big glass wall
with like 150 index cards all over the wall.
And he asked him, he said, what is all that?
And he goes, well, that's my next movie I'm working on.
He said, those are all my different scenes.
I just move them around till I get it the way I like it.
He said, every good movie has ups and downs
and good characters and bad characters.
And he said, I just move it around till I like it.
And my friend who looked at this said,
this looks so confusing.
He said, how do you even know where to start?
You know what the actor said?
That's the easy part.
He said, you always start with the final scene.
You decide how you want it to end,
and then you work towards it.
See, it's the same with your life.
You decide, how do you want the next five years to end?
How do you want this year to end?
This is what I always tell people to do,
because to me, this is the easiest way
to help you get clear on your goals for this year.
Let's imagine it's December 31st of this year, okay?
December 31st this year.
You've got your party hat on, sequined dress, girls.
You're, I mean, you're having the best time, New Year's Eve.
I want you to imagine turning to your best friend
and saying, this has been the most amazing year of my life.
Now, what would need to happen for you to say that?
Whatever it is, write it down.
If you were to say 2025 was the best year of my life,
does that mean you paid off your car $17,556.87?
Does that mean you lost 25 pounds?
Now you weigh your ideal body weight.
Does that mean you met the one God has for you to marry,
and you're engaged?
Does that mean you got pregnant
and you're getting ready to give birth?
Does that mean that you bought the dream house
that you've been looking at?
Does it mean you got a promotion?
What needs to happen for this to be
the greatest year of your life?
So you start with the final scene
and then you work towards it.
Does that help?
Okay, so I wish I had more time to teach you
a little bit more on goal setting,
but I did put a little download for you.
I think we have a slide,
and if you wanna get your phone's app
and you can click that, oh, there's not a QR code,
but if you wanna text that, you can get that download
and that will give you,
it's just a free little goal setting checklist
that will help you set your goals the right way this year.
So I'm hoping that'll help you.
Because I love teaching on goal setting and all that,
but this is one of the best ways to do it.
And always remember, the vision comes before the provision.
Vision comes first, provision comes second, right?
Okay, the fifth habit is exercise.
The fifth habit is, you didn't see that coming, huh?
So the fifth habit is exercise.
I found out successful people like to exercise.
We like to work out, don't we?
But here's the thing, I had to tell myself in the beginning,
Terri, stop looking at the one hour you don't have,
look at the 20 minutes you do have and do something.
And you might even say 20 minutes
is not gonna change my life, Terri.
Well, 20 minutes times 30 days in a month
is 10 hours of investing in your physical health.
You're gonna feel better
after 10 hours of investment, aren't you?
So stop looking at exercise as just like a period of life,
like for a special occasion.
Look at exercise as a way of life.
It's just what we do.
You know, I don't even, I've been doing this for so long now,
I don't ask myself, do you feel like it?
I don't feel like brushing my teeth either,
but I do it, right?
So you just start saying, this is just what I do.
These are success habits
and I wanna be a successful person.
So I'm gonna do something every day to maintain that.
Now, here's the thing I wanna stress about exercise
is 15 years ago, when I turned 40,
I went through a season of life
where my body was starting to change
and your body's changing, going through all that.
And somebody said to me, oh, Terri, you just wait.
Now that you're 40, you're just, your metabolism is shot.
And I was like, oh my gosh, really?
And then they're like,
oh, and you're gonna have to work out twice as hard
as you used to work out.
And I was like, you're kidding, I already work out.
Then they would tell me,
and you're not gonna get to eat
all those cupcakes you love to eat.
And I was like, I bind you in the name of Jesus.
We like cupcakes, okay?
So anyway, the more I heard that,
the more I began to believe it.
The more I believed it,
the more it began to show up in my body.
My body started changing and I was still working out.
I was working out harder, eating healthier,
and I was looking worse.
And all of a sudden it dawned on me.
Yes, it's important what goes in your mouth
as it pertains to health and fitness,
but it's even more important
what's coming out of your mouth.
Do you know, the Bible says we are snared
by the words of our mouth.
What's a snare?
It's a Texas-sized mouse, right?
It's just a trap.
A snare is a trap.
So when you're saying things like,
no matter what I do, I can't lose weight,
you just trapped yourself in a never losing weight.
My metabolism is shot.
Guess I'll never be what I used to be.
Hey, you never will.
At this rate, you know, I guess I'll work out
or I'll never get married.
Okay, you're never gonna get married.
You just trapped yourself in a never getting married.
No matter what I do, I can't lose weight.
No matter what you do, you will not lose weight.
You're trapping yourself into the very thing you don't want.
So I had to learn the opposite.
It's a two-step process.
Number one, stop speaking negatively,
but number two, start speaking positively.
So what I did was I made a list of positive declarations
to speak over my body.
And I started saying them every single day.
I'm confident, I'm courageous, I'm qualified.
I'm fit, firm, and muscular.
I'm in the best shape of my life.
I'm energetic, I'm enthusiastic.
I love to work out.
I'm disciplined, spirit, soul, and body.
I eat whatever I wanna eat and I maintain my perfect weight.
You like that?
I get up with God's word and I would say,
so shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth.
It shall not return unto me void,
but it will accomplish that which I please.
I am in the best shape of my life in Jesus' name.
And do you know the weight started falling off of me?
If you wanna know where your life is headed,
listen to the words that are coming out of your mouth.
So I'm convinced if you'll change what you're saying,
you'll change what you're seeing, right?
So, and I wanna mention this real quick,
when it comes to your dreams and goals,
cause I didn't say this,
I was mostly focused on your habits.
But when I make a dream book,
I don't just put pictures in here
and put this in my nightstand
and expect these to magically appear.
No, the Bible says you have to call those things
that be not as though they are.
You have to give life to your dreams
by speaking to them, right?
That's how God created the whole world
was with the words of his mouth.
You create your world with the words of your mouth.
You know, I remember the first time
I started making declarations like this,
and I would say things like,
you know, I'm confident, I'm courageous.
I'm confident to speak in front of live audiences.
I'm confident to speak on live television
because I was so nervous.
I told you about my background.
I could barely look people in the eyes.
So I had to speak the opposite.
I'm confident to speak on live TV shows.
I would say I'm an expert
in the message God has given me to share.
My gift is making room for me
and bringing me before great people.
I said this over and over and over.
If you wanna know how I did it was,
I would go to the gym and work out.
Soon as I get home,
go in my room with my book of dreams
and call those things that be not as though they are.
And I'll never forget the first time
I spoke at a church in Paris,
the biggest church in the nation.
10,000 people, I'm standing on the front row
about to go up and my daughter Cassidy leaned over
and she goes, mom, are you a little nervous?
And I said, I'm confident, courageous and qualified by God.
I speak at the largest churches
and conferences in the world.
Now I can't say I wasn't a little nervous,
but you know what?
What you repeatedly hear you eventually believe
and you believe your words more than anybody's words.
I remember the first time I did an interview on TVN,
they're putting the mic on,
we're about to go live and the engineer, he goes,
Terry, I need you to sit right here in the expert chair.
And at first I snickered and I was like,
expert, what am I an expert in?
Then I'll, I've been saying every day,
I'm an expert in the message God has given me to share.
So I'm telling you as a fact,
if you want to know where your life is headed,
listen to the words coming out of your mouth.
Change what you're saying, you'll change what you're seeing.
So last thing I wanna share
is everything I just shared with you.
I like to compare all this to a rocket.
I just happen to have a little baby rocket right here.
Can y'all see that?
So I like to compare what we're talking about here
with a rocket launch.
Cause did you know the toughest part
about a rocket is the launch?
The toughest part about the whole thing is the takeoff.
They say the rocket uses more fuel in the takeoff
than it does the rest of the entire trip.
And you know why?
Because it's trying to break the gravitational pull
of the earth trying to keep it back.
But once it breaks that pull, there's no stopping it, right?
Do you know it's the same with your habits?
The toughest part is getting started.
But once you break that pull,
you break that pull of the enemy trying to keep you back,
there is no force from hell that can stop you
from living your dreams.
Do y'all believe that?
