Centering the campaign on the upcoming midterms, the speaker praises Ed Markey as a dedicated fighter capable of challenging billionaires and the presidency to deliver tangible relief to working families.
Donald Trump has put the sea in corruption.
He is the most corrupt president ever in American history.
Okay, I just got to start though with what partnerships
are all about. Ed Markey, Elizabeth Warren,
and Ayanna Pressley. That's why we are here. We are here because
we need Democrats in Washington. You bet. You bet.
But you know what we need more than that? We need Democrats who
fight. Fight. I fight and Ed Markey fights.
Look, it is tough right now in Washington. The system is broken.
It just is. And we've got billionaires who think they call the shots. They're
the ones who make sure that things go well for them and for
their friends and for their kids and for the kids of the
president of the United States. We've got cheating. We've got talk of
bribes around Washington. And we've got a
president who not only presides over this rot,
he goes around the world and embarrasses us.
He embarrasses us. This is a time when we need
a strong, progressive team to fight back.
And Ed Markey is a central part of that team.
So you all have probably heard we got midterms coming up.
Listen, boy, these midterms. Ayanna's right.
This is like a hundred year impact from what happens in these midterms.
There's going to be two things we're going to be out there talking about
over and over and over. Costs and corruption. Costs and corruption.
Just say it, baby. And where we're going to start on costs
is we're going to start with Donald Trump.
We're going to start with the fact that he spent an entire
year while he was running for president of the United States,
stood up every day and said, I will lower costs
on day one. Those were his words. Those were his words.
He gets elected and his first interview they say,
why did you win? And he said, because I said
I would lower costs on day one. Well, here we are at day 500 and it feels
like 10,000.
Here we are and let's just do this one together.
The cost of groceries, down or up? Oh yeah, cost of gasoline, down or up?
Cost of housing, down or up? Cost of health care, down or up?
Cost of utilities, down or up? Costs are up, up, up.
And Democrats are in this fight to deliver lower costs for working
families. That's why we're here. Now people might say, they might say, oh
yeah, you Democrats, big talk. How are you planning to do that?
You want to lower the price of gasoline? End the war in Iran.
Just end it. You want to lower the price of groceries?
End Donald Trump's illegal tariffs. Can we just do a news flash for the
President of the United States? Canada is not our enemy.
You want to lower the cost of your utilities?
Bring our offshore wind back online. Let me throw one in. You got to listen
because I'm going to switch. Do you want to raise worker pay?
Then let's pass the PRO Act and make it easier to join a union.
You know I could do these all day, but one more.
Lower the cost of health care, then roll back
the cuts from Donald Trump taking away health care for five million people.
And we get a big enough, strong enough, tough enough, progressive team.
It's time for Medicare for All.
So we're going to have fun in the fight to lower costs. These are
things we can do. Get us the majority. We can
make these changes, but we've got to pay attention
to the other half, and that is Donald Trump
has put the sea in corruption. He is the most corrupt
President ever in American history. Them's the facts.
So the question becomes, what do we do about that? Well here's my view. When
Donald Trump starts a war with Iran and his oil
buddies who gave him a billion dollars for his
campaign, when they start making profits like
crazy, then our job is to call it out and fight
back. That's what we do. When CEOs give gifts to Donald Trump,
when they bring him trophies and fancy watches,
when foreign countries offer him airplanes,
when they invest in his business, our job is to stand up and fight back.
And here's one. When private equity comes into our state
and corrupt CEOs drain a billion dollars out of our health care system,
and they shut down our community hospitals, we fight back.
We fight back. I'm pretty specific on this one.
I think it is time to drag Dr. Ralph in front of a jury and let him
explain what he has done to the people of Massachusetts.
Now I talk about teams and how we fight together, but this is a place for sure
that Ed Markey has jumped out in front. He has led the charge on behalf of our
steward hospitals. He has fought for
accountability. He got the United States Senate, for the
first time in like forever, to actually issue a subpoena
to Dr. Ralph, which Dr. Ralph has ignored, which puts Dr. Ralph in some legal
jeopardy. I'm loving every minute of this.
Because Ed is a fighter. But here's the part you gotta know.
Ed is a fighter all the time. He's out there. He takes it on. He's not
afraid. But even when the cameras are gone, when
families are still trying to pick up the mess,
when our nurses are still trying to deliver care,
even though they don't have the supplies they need, even though they don't have
the support they need, when the people who need to go to those
hospitals need care, Ed Markey stays
in the fight. Because that's the kind of man he is.
So we have some pretty tough fights in front of us.
I don't know about you, but I'm enthusiastic about this.
Getting back at midterms, getting back the majority,
making this happen. But to make it really happen, what we gotta have is not just
a Democratic majority in the House, Democratic majority in the Senate. I'm
all in. But what we've gotta have is we gotta
have a majority of fighters. We gotta have a majority of
people who are willing to get in the fight. A strong progressive
team. And here's what I want to say about Ed
Markey. Ed Markey is a Democrat, a progressive,
a fighter that Massachusetts can depend on.
Because that's the thing about someone you can depend on.
Not someone whose positions change depending on
how much it may help them in an upcoming election.
Not somebody who's a little bit here and a little bit there.
Somebody who knows his values, lives his values,
fights for his values every single day. That is why I say whenever
I'm asked, I could not ask for a better partner in
the United States Senate than Ed Markey. Okay, so I'm just gonna ask as we wrap
this up. Are you ready to elect someone
who has got the guts to stand up to giant corporate executives,
to billionaires, to Republicans, to the President of the United States
and say enough screwing American families. We are here to fight back.
Are you ready to fight for someone who is going to lower costs for American
families? Are you ready to fight for someone you
will never have to worry about corruption because
you know he will be in that fight to beat back corruption in our system.
Are you ready to get in this fight? Are you ready to fight for Ed Markey
to be part of our Senate and fight for this stuff?
