Nepal is once again facing a tense situation after water levels in the Trishuli River rose again on August 31, 2026.
Floods struck the Charaundi area of Benighat Rorang in Dhading District, sweeping away a suspension bridge connecting Dhading and Gorkha under the force of the raging waters.
This latest wave of flooding comes just days after a severe disaster on August 26, which heavily impacted the Rasuwa region and areas along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers.
The disaster is believed to be linked to an ice and rock avalanche in the Himalayas near the Nepal-Tibet border; the event triggered flash floods and massive debris flows. The exact cause and detailed geological dynamics of the incident remain under investigation.
According to updates from the NDRRMA on August 31, 903 people have lost their lives and 4,247 remain missing in Nepal. Search and rescue operations are proceeding urgently, including at several hydropower project sites.
