勸學/Exhortation to Learning

① 唐代韩愈《进学解》
業精於勤，荒於嬉；行成於思，毀於隨。
Excellence in learning comes from diligence; it is lost through playfulness.
Success in one's conduct comes from thoughtful reflection; it is ruined by following one's whims.

② 南宋朱熹《偶成》
少年易老學難成，一寸光陰不可輕。
Youth passes quickly, while learning takes a long time to master.
Every moment of time should be treasured.

未覺池塘春草夢，階前梧葉已秋聲。
Before I realize it, spring has passed like a dream among the pond-side grass;
already, the leaves of the parasol tree before the steps are whispering of autumn.

③ 《三字經》
首孝弟，次見聞。知某數，識某文。
First, learn to be filial and respectful to your elders;
next, broaden your knowledge through what you see and hear.
Learn numbers and counting;
learn to recognize and understand written words.

④ 唐代韩愈《师说》
師者，所以傳道授業解惑也。
A good teacher guides us in the right way, teaches us knowledge and skills, and helps us understand what we do not know.
