AI GeneratedAvelina Salonen delivers a historic and dominant performance on Championship Sunday to secure her second World Championship and complete a career Grand Slam. Finishing at 14 under par, she showcased an aggressive playstyle and unmatched precision, including a record-breaking streak of 10 consecutive birdies, to cement her status as one of the greatest disc golfers.
Once again.
And inside the bullseye, a tap in par ahead.
Showed off a very robust skill set
with the forehand backhand putting
Avelina Flippy Destroyer up the hill.
And just a little bullet with a glideless putter
straight up to the pin and that's a bullseye birdie.

Saladin.
It's gotta sit down.
Green flag.
She gets her best drive off in the raining conditions.
It's her first time inbounds.
From the standstill.
And she's going for it.
Wow!
A standstill in the rain
and just outside the bullseye for an eagle.
Kept finding this little section right here.
We talked about it in the other two rounds out of Toboggan.
She actually found the hazard.
Still logged the birdie.
This time stayed clean on the drive.
She doesn't know any other style of throw.
She's keeping what's keeping her in the lead right now.
Not backing off.
Avelina tapping in an eagle.
Just outside the bullseye.
And there you go.
A three on hole number three.
Avelina moves to three down through three.
Perfect pace to start the final day.
The leader by 12.
Takes the tee with the magic Thunderbird on four.
And why not?
Avelina forehand.
And she does it again.
She really made something happen there.
Avelina for birdie and clearly running it.
Tap in par.
And with the format, it does matter where you place.
You have to be in the top 20 on tour.
And Avelina down the fairway of five.
Really just fine.
Avelina, another nice little putter flick
up there to the basket.
Avelina still electing to go for the power play
down in the ravine.
Found herself there the other rounds.
Was able to get up and down.
These players just gotta find something to play for.
And not gonna make that one.
That's gonna be a tap in par.
It is so difficult.
I found playing in the rain,
just, it was really difficult for me.
But then I know other people who are complete mutters
and they can just persevere
and play some of their best golf.
That is a mutter drive right there.
Avelina right at that 250 mark.
Her second shot hits the bullseye again.
Wood chips.
Another mindless birdie.
Avelina in the pocket with the sidearm.
That's no problem there.
The way Avelina's playing, again,
we joked about it yesterday,
but her first love in sports was motocross
when she was just a little girl.
Her play style very much alludes to that.
Always putting the pedal to the metal.
Avelina, and another one.
Not only, whoa!
Avelina!
She says, well, good for you,
Ryder's Ballot as an NPO.
This is mine.
Yeah, what are you talking about?
Wait for it.
This is my tournament.
Are you kidding me?
This is just the tip of the cap
from the rest of the field.
Avelina overstable, ripping over on it,
and she's looking to be safe on that right side.
You can hear it in the crowd.
Oh, wow.
Eventually, I guarantee you,
the answers are gonna start to shift
towards a Silva, towards an Avelina.
And there was a time when she would,
in these positions, play extremely conservative.
Lay up extremely short putts.
This has gotta be a freeing feeling for her.
She's actually untapping a new level.
Having those extra strokes and playing like this
is going to just help her tap into something
that Avelina might not even had experienced
if she didn't have the strokes going on.
Avelina in the basket, her fifth birdie in a row.
Eight down through 11.
Oh, with Addison, I was on the call at the Ledgestone
when she piped hole one for the birdie.
First person to do it, opening shot.
And Avelina.
The daunting 266, closest she's been.
She has unlocked a new level today
on Championship Sunday.
And you said 266, how far does this actually play?
It is way up there.
Oh, it's probably like 366 tops
because we haven't seen anybody get to that position
in all of the rounds out here.
Yes, the two is there.
This is a satisfying shot for the pros to throw.
It's a fun shot for the pros to throw
along with the challenge.
Can also throw this turning backhand.
Dialed in.
Salonen, Avelina.
And again, just one angle, stable, flat to fade.
The bug sticks with you and never leaves you.
So I'm glad she played those sports,
but I think she's having a little bit of success
in this game.
That is the beauty.
We talk about it a lot.
Disc golf is a lifetime sport.
It's a lifetime activity.
Welcome back to the Avelina Salonen show.
Here she is on the tee of 15.
She's working on eight birdies in a row
and a 17 shot lead over second place.
Crushed one around the corner.
Have not seen a disc get that far around the corner
on the par five.
And you heard from Peksena that if Dani Hart
makes her birdie putt,
she wedges her out of the throw pink championship.
So sitting on the green of 18,
watching her fate in somebody else's hands.
Just incredible to see.
Here's Avelina trying to work on nine birdies in a row.
And there's a chance.
Why not?
So smooth, never even a doubt.
Even flattened out.
Not that kind of more hyzer that we've seen
in the past with Avelina.
Putt is strong.
Welcome back.
There are three holes remaining here
on championship Sunday.
And how dominant can Avelina finish this tournament off?
Well, there's another chance for a birdie
to go 10 in a row and set the new course record.
Avelina, why not make it 10 in a row?
Do it, Avelina.
Why not tie the course record
and then beat it with this putt here?
Run them out, run them out.
She keeps playing like this.
Disc golf is in trouble.
Well, Avelina, a young 26,
gonna celebrate her 27th birthday in three, four days.
What a way to celebrate.
10 birdies in a row.
Course record through 16.
Out of body.
Well, huge flowers from previous world champion
and one of the greatest,
if not the greatest putter of all time,
complimenting how far she's come.
And that's not gonna work if she wants the eagle.
She's pinched off on the left.
I think she can stretch out for a flick from there.
She knows she doesn't need this birdie,
but everybody and their mother
wants her to finish birdie, birdie here.
That might break the streak.
A long look.
Can she get there?
It's gonna be a layup under the pin.
She's gonna take a par.
One more chance to birdie on 18.
And Avelina, driver up the hill, way up there.
Funny you listen to her get interviewed by Terry
and her face lit up a little bit
when she got to talk about how proud she was
to finish disc golf and Avelina playing as well as she was.
This is her second.
All right, we're not gonna see the roller,
but a pretty simple up and down for another birdie.
11 of her last 12 holes.
Incredible stretch, incredible performance.
And an up and down here gets her to 14 under par.
And you can all but count it.
Her sixth major title, her second world championship.
She's won the career Grand Slam.
She's done it.
She's now the 11th woman ever
to win a second world championship.
Presenting sponsor First Form,
your 2026 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Champion
and two-time world champion, Avelina Salonen.
14 under par.
She is truly a one of one.
And now a two-time world champion.
She's with Nate Perkins on the green.
Take it away, Nate.
Avelina, two years ago, you became the first person
from Finland to win a world title.
And now today, after one of the most dominant performances
of all time, you are bringing a second title
back home to Suomi.
How proud are you of this accomplishment?
Yeah, of course, so proud.
And yeah, just happy.
And it was so stressful week,
so I'm happy that now it's over.
You had nine strokes going into this final round,
and yet you played aggressive.
You played with such intensity and such focus.
Guys, Avelina just shot the highest rated worlds
of all time.
Give it up.
How did you do it?
How were you able to stay so hungry out there
and shoot a 14 under par?
Yeah, I don't know what happened today,
but I was so scared, too.
Like, I woke up three hours before my alarm,
and I was like, they're going to play so well today,
so I have to focus.
And it's not over before last hole,
so I was so focused, and I just wanted this so bad.
Well, I lost count of all the bullseye hits today,
but I want to return to a special shot on hole three.
After your tee shot, you were 400 feet away.
It was pouring rain, and you threw from a standstill
and delivered the driver to the bullseye for an eagle.
How, Avelina, how did you do it?
How is that possible?
And can you share about the sacrifice and dedication
that led to you being one of the greatest
tee to green players of all time?
Yeah, I don't know.
I love to throw my Firebird from stairs,
but I couldn't take run-ups,
so I usually don't do standstills a lot.
And yeah, I just wanted that eagle,
and I wanted good start today,
so I don't have to stress about those last holes.
But yeah, I feel like I'm still young,
but kind of old, because I have been playing so many years.
But yeah, it has been since 2012,
and I have been like, wanted to be one of the best.
There was a time when you could not hide from the criticism
that people chose to throw at you,
and yet you persevered.
How were you able to persevere,
and what do you have to say to all the people
that lost faith in you?
Yeah, it has been a long way from those,
and it's like sometimes still in my head,
and like how I played last year's Worlds,
like it was disaster.
So I think like I have to thank all my family and friends
who have been believing in me,
because there have been times like when I wanted to give up,
but they have been pushing me, and yeah.
Evelina, who do you have to thank
as being a part of this grand journey of yours?
Yeah, of course my family and friends,
my sponsors Innova, Kripp Equipment, Power Kripp,
all your fans, spectators for pushing me,
and also like other players,
because they are rising that bar all the time,
and we just have to get better here.
All right, guys, one more time
with one of the most dominant performances of all time,
Evelina Solonen is your two-time champion!
All the years of doubt, all the years of wanting to give up,
all gone, one of the greatest modern players
that we have ever seen.
