AI GeneratedA Red Bull driver discusses a productive first day of practice, focusing on long-run simulations with soft and hard tires to improve race pace following struggles at Zandvoort. The driver also confirms that towing tactics will be planned for qualifying and notes the impressive development and speed of the Racing Bulls car, despite it having very different driving characteristics.
It looked like a pretty strong start, certainly in FP1 for yourself and Red Bull.
Yeah, I mean it was OK. It's been, I would say, a productive day.
We spent most of P2 just long running. So we did a short run at the start and it felt OK.
And then we just did two long runs on the soft and the hard.
For me it's good learning. I think we struggled more, I struggled more in Zandvoort in the race versus Quali.
So I'll try and learn what I can from it.
Any particular role, I mean a lot of teams might employ some towing tactics.
Is that coming into your thinking for tomorrow at all yourself and Max and how you might go about things?
I mean for sure it's something we'll discuss and we'll come up with a plan.
OK, just finally, the Racing Bulls car looks good here as well. Is there much difference?
I mean you've just come out of the other one.
They look relatively evenly matched on this particular circuit. Is that any kind of surprise to you?
Not a surprise in terms of the progress that V-Car is making. We've honestly been very strong all year.
And the development that's been coming, everything's been working well.
So it doesn't surprise me. It's obviously exciting as well for me to know that when I go back it's still a quick car.
But they are completely different to drive. So it's quite crazy how they achieve similar lap times.
