The Way Home: James' Story of Recovery and Purpose

For 15 years, James battled methamphetamine addiction. He lost his wife, his job, his stability and eventually, his mother. Before she passed, she asked him to get right with the Lord and leave drugs behind. That request became a turning point.

James came to Union Rescue Mission, where he found a safe place to stay, meals, support, and the opportunity to rebuild his life. Today, he has been clean for two and a half years.

Through the program, James also discovered Reignite Hope, a nonprofit that helps people reenter the workforce by learning a trade. After completing welding training, James earned certifications in MIG and stick welding and now he is stepping into a new future with purpose.

For James, “the way home” means being able to look in the mirror again, move forward without looking back, and wake up every day with a reason to keep going.

His story is a powerful reminder that hope, healing, and transformation are possible.
