Resolution reached between N.W.T. regulator and Ekati mine receiver over unauthorized waste disposal

The Wekaji Land and Water Board is in a dispute with PwC, the court-appointed receiver of a mine, over the unauthorized dumping of blasting emulsion into the Long Lake containment facility. While PwC claimed they believed they had government approval, both the board and the government denied this. The issue has since been addressed through new safeguards and increased staffing.
