We took a group of nearly century-old Lincolns into the Tetons to find out how a 1929 automobile vacation actually worked.

Travel with us through Grand Teton National Park in several original 1920s Lincoln automobiles, including Yellowstone touring car No. 811, a 1926 Lincoln once used by the Yellowstone Park Transportation Company, and a 1928 Locke-bodied Lincoln Model L Sport Phaeton.

This Grand Tetons trip included period automobile camping beside Jackson Lake, cooking on gasoline stoves and a Griswold cast-iron gas hotplate, troubleshooting an ignition failure, and testing the Lincolns on the climb up Signal Mountain. We also visited a privately owned cottage built in 1921 that preserves the practical architecture of early western vacations, including rustic log construction and a screened sleeping porch.

The film examines what automobile touring and camping required during the late 1920s: roadside repairs, mechanical brakes, mountain driving, period camp equipment, and the everyday realities of traveling through the early national parks.
