Tesla's No-Steering-Wheel Cybercab Begins Austin Robotaxi Rides, NHTSA Evaluates | APT

Tesla has begun offering rides in its Cybercab robotaxi in limited areas of Austin, Texas, marking a major step toward Elon Musk's vision of a large-scale autonomous ride-hailing network.

The two-seat Cybercab is designed without a steering wheel or pedals, meaning passengers have no conventional driving controls. Tesla says the vehicle is now available through its Robotaxi service in limited parts of Austin.

The rollout has also drawn attention from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency said it is in contact with Tesla and is evaluating the situation.
