The World Bonsai Convention is one of those rare occasions when the bonsai world comes together on a truly international scale. In Kuala Lumpur, for the 10th edition of the convention, that international character met the rich and distinctive world of tropical bonsai.

Welcome to the 10th World Bonsai Convention held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Here at the show there's around 150 trees on display.
So although this is a very international event with many people visiting from around the world,
the bonsai trees you're seeing here are pretty much all Malaysian bonsai trees.
So in this video actually what you will be seeing is the Malaysian bonsai scene.
And I must say I'm really impressed. The level of the trees is super high.
The pots they choose and the tables and so the display.
I don't think they care about the display as much as they do about the trees.
So the level of the trees is incredibly high.
All the focus they put into getting a fine ramification and really stunning material.
One of the things that makes this really interesting for me being
you know from Europe is that the tree species they use here of course are very different
because it's a tropical climate. So not your standard maple, pine, junipers.
But instead they have pramna, they have raicha, they have the kukuratap.
So many species that I wasn't really familiar with but super stunning.
So from a distance you would almost think this is a juniper.
But in fact this is a tropical species and one that I'm very keen on.
In this video I'll take you for a tour of the bonsai trees
and show you a bit about the event as well.
But of course I'm mostly focusing on the bonsai.
