A dramatic rescue has unfolded in Nepal after a Chinese national was found alive 10 days after catastrophic floods devastated the Trishuli River corridor.
The survivor, identified by the Nepal Army as Luhaitao, was discovered around 225 metres inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project in Rasuwa.
Footage shows the Chinese worker receiving medical treatment from Nepali soldiers as he was evacuated from the tunnel. Rescue teams are continuing operations as hundreds of hydropower workers remain unaccounted for following the disaster.
The rescue comes just a day after Nepali workers Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan were also pulled alive from another hydropower tunnel after spending nine days underground.
The devastating August 26 floods sent ice, rocks, mud and massive volumes of water through the Trishuli valley, destroying hydropower sites and affecting communities across the region.
