Program Introduction:
Dancing figurines are a common type of funerary object found in ancient Chinese tombs. Emerging roughly during the Spring and Autumn period, they became widely popular by the late Spring and Autumn era. Based on the varied postures of excavated Western Han dynasty figurines, this program showcases the graceful elegance of Han-style dance, which emphasizes movements of the hands, sleeves, and waist. Legend has it that Lady Qi—a favorite concubine of Liu Bang—excelled at the "dance of fluttering sleeves and bending waist," a style characterized by swaying, arching movements and the swirling, fluid motion of long sleeves.
