The ultimate adventure day, jumping on the ferry at 9am for an unassisted sup foil downwind mission.
Foiling 78km's in some epic north Atlantic conditions, what a day! stoked it all came together, this runs been on my radar for a while so it was epic it came together.
Thanks for the footage Emma, additional footage from Ben and Arlin.

AI GeneratedAn athlete attempts a pioneering unaided foil run from the Isles of Scilly to the mainland (Marazion), covering nearly 80km. Despite challenging tides and changing weather, the journey is a success, blending high-energy ocean paddling with a solo adventure.
Yeah, no emissions on, that's for sure.
I'm going to try and make it from the Isles of Scilly back to the mainland tomorrow,
put the ticket this afternoon, and we're on.
The forecast is looking pretty good.
It's a little bit changeable, but I've never been over there,
well, never been over there to do anything like this,
and I think it's the first time anyone would have foiled from there.
I know people have paddle boarded,
and I think there must have been a paddle board race,
but I think it's about 60 or 70 k's,
so I'm just going to go from there to Marrazyne, hopefully,
if it all goes all right.
But we'll see how it all goes.
Just packing everything up.
Got similar setup to last time,
maybe a few little tweaks, a few refinements.
What are the tweaks?
Well, I've got, hopefully the Garmin's going to connect to the maps,
and that's going to give me some better direction,
so I won't have to keep getting my phone out.
And then other tweaks, I've got that Ozone,
what's it called, the Mission Pack,
which is a bit smaller than the backpack,
so that should reduce weight.
But other than that, basically all the same.
I've really wanted to do this run for a while now,
especially after I did that,
the big South Coast Downwinder,
I've been like, oh, I really want to try and fit this in
before the summer's over.
So I've been really looking at the forecast recently,
just trying to get a good weather period to do it.
But tomorrow looks pretty good, I think.
But I've never really been over there,
or I don't really know what it looks like.
Doing it unaided as well,
so kind of just trying to pick the weather
for that to be safe as well,
which is definitely a thing.
It's quite tidal over there as well, isn't it?
Yeah, I think there's a big rise and fall,
I think there's like five metres of rise and fall.
And we're on spring tides, which, I don't know.
We'll see how the water looks tomorrow,
because there's so many unknown,
which is really exciting.
I'm just interested to see what it looks like
out there, really.
But it should be a great day and a great run.
It's going to take like three hours
on the ferry to get there.
We're going to wake up here at 6am,
going to travel two hours to Penzance,
take a ferry, which is going to take three hours,
and then hopefully get in the water
about 12.30 or 1 o'clock.
And then hopefully get back here,
I don't know, get back to...
We're going to come in at Marazine,
which is pretty close to Penzance.
So yeah, it should be a great day,
a big day,
but really excited.
Got the extra edition.
We've been trying to bung her up
for the chat.
Hey!
Bombing it down the 8.30.
We're already running late,
hopefully we can make it on the ferries.
Big day.
Almost didn't make it
on with the power wing.
I managed to chuck it last minute.
Pretty hectic.
But we've got everything on here now,
and I've just left.
So yeah, I'll get a few shots of us leaving.
Sit Michael's mouse just over there.
Right, we've made it to the Isle of Cillia
with the local legend, Jimmy.
He's just shown me a spot to launch from.
What do you make of it, Jimmy?
All good, all good.
It's going to be a good day?
Yep, epic.
Yeah, frothing.
Going to somehow get through this weedy patch
and then head out and straight gone.
That's the claim.
Alright then, here we go.
Just leaving St Mary's now.
Oh, that's exciting.
Hopefully there's kelp for us.
Off.
Going to get my power wing up.
I've just left, just paddled out from that beach there.
Just found some wind here.
Going to power wing out into the bumps over there.
And then we're off.
Can't believe it, I'm so frothing for it.
Wind seems pretty good here.
I've just power winged out
from St Mary's.
I'm going to start paddling.
So yeah, this is where all the fun starts.
Had some good lumps there.
That was hectic to top that.
I'm so stoked to get going.
Just, I can't see land quite yet.
So we're just
all in the unknown.
But conditions are
really fun already.
We've just started.
Some really nice swells out here now.
Yeah, just kind of
kicking my line.
And I can't see land quite yet.
So I'm just
trying to get into the conditions really.
Trying to get the
pressures right on both feet so you're not
burning your front leg or your back foot.
So yeah,
just trying to move your feet around.
You know, later on in the run you'll start
feeling that.
So that's always something to keep
your feet going
before you get bad cramps or whatnot.
So yeah,
but yeah, there's loads of energy out here.
It's so nice. It's so nice just to be
like stand still for a bit.
Not like
have to read books and whatnot.
It's just, yeah, beautiful.
Woohoo!
Alright then, let's just chat about the kit that I'm using
for this downwinder.
It's pretty much the same as
my last big downwinder.
So I'm using the UHA 670
front wing and then
the Performance X Mask
795, Dart 120
and the 60 Fuse.
Then I've got the 8.2 Downwind
Ocean board.
Yeah, I
generally like smaller boards but for this kind of thing
in like proper ocean
conditions, just being able
to paddle up so easily with the longer
board makes such a difference.
And it's just that extra bit of safety as well
which is pretty nice.
So yeah, that's the gear.
Talking about...
Alright, we've got the silly
plane coming overhead.
Don't they see me down there?
I must go past it from here.
Alright then, it's snack
time.
And yeah, this is definitely no paid
promotion by M&S.
But yeah, we're heading straight in for the big
dog, the big daddy.
Looks
pretty good.
Not quite sure what
to expect here. I'm expecting
something quite chocolatey.
Looks like pistachio to me.
I've never actually had a big daddy before.
It's pretty good.
That's going to be a
real morale booster.
Not that I really need a morale booster but
still,
that's nice.
If I was to describe it,
quite soft,
quite sweet,
bit pistachio-y
and quite chocolatey.
I guess they're pretty good attributes
for anything really.
Making pretty good progress.
The bumps have definitely got smaller. I feel like
the wind's definitely got lighter here.
But it's still alright.
It's a little bit crossed out but
I guess it's just the island here.
There's two ships here
and I think my tactic's going to be
just to duck in behind
both of them.
You beauty!
How good is the score?
Bloody tuna!
I don't think I've done it on camera.
But still.
I'm basically in the middle now.
I can barely...
Well, the clouds are really coming
over here now.
And it's kind of
cloudy over the mainland too.
So I think I'm basically
in the middle.
Which feels pretty good.
It's pretty fun to be out here.
Yeah, it's pretty soft
but it feels great.
The conditions are
so good.
Just for doing it solo without any
boat assistance or anything like that.
I don't think you want it too nuclear.
So this
kind of like,
I don't know, what's this, two minutes slow or a little bit more?
It's perfect.
Lots of luck into one here.
The wind's going up and down.
Oh my!
We're on to the second
bit of energy that I've thought out
for today.
One thing I must say
is the packaging's kind of let it down
on the way out here.
That's really had a shocker.
But hey, that shouldn't affect the taste too much.
Maybe we've got a bit of
salt in there.
It is a bit salty.
It's like we're back into
Oh yeah, it's had a shocker, hasn't it?
It looks like we're back
into kind of Mars bar territory here.
It's quite good though.
Yeah, it's definitely
taken on some flavour.
Pretty dark clouds in behind me now.
There's land. Land's end
somewhere here. I think Cortana's our end point.
We've got a way through.
Just saw some more tunas.
Oh my lord!
See that?
Huge animal.
Alright then, we're 40km's in now.
I reckon there's another
30 to go.
Wind is from the south-west
at force 6.
Sea state is
moderate. Air pressure
1-0-0-8
megabytes.
Visibility
approximately 20 miles.
So we're ashore now.
I can really feel
this wind against the tides.
It's getting really, really steep again.
I think Emma's got my
tent somewhere here, so I'll just see if I can
find them.
Land's end's just over there.
Just in the mist now.
We're just hitting this tidal rate
and it's just going crazy!
Check out the whitewater!
I want to hold you now
Crazy skies are wild
above me now
Winter howling
at my face
And everything
I held so dear
Disappeared without a trace
Oh all the times
I tasted love
Never knew
quite what I had
Little
darling if you hear
me now
Never needed you so
bad
Spinning
round inside my
head
Sail
away with me honey
I'll put my heart
in your hands
Sail away with me honey
now
Sail away with me
What will
be will be
I want to hold
you now
I've been talking
drunk and gibberish
Falling in and out
of fire
Trying to get some explanation
here
By the way
some people are
How did it ever come so
far
Sail away with me
honey
I'll put my heart in your hands
Sail away with me
honey
Sail away with me
What will be
will be
Sail away with me
honey
Sail away with me
honey
now
Sail away with me
What will be
will be
I want to hold
you now
now
Sail away with me
Nice to be
going to find some land
Oh we've got fishies
There's that squirrel
Hectic
It's going to turn westerly here
But there's still loads of energy
out here so it should be alright
There's a poor kerner here
Here we are then, poor kerner
It's not as beautiful
on a day like today but still
Just cutting back out
of the sea now to try and get into some smoother
It's still big though
Well that vis is all gone
I hit that really hard
and came down
My foil is feeling
all a bit weird right now
I'm just going to have to
keep going
Last but not least
is the jack
which in turn
is a shocker
Not travelled well
It's going to be quite salty
I'm going to try and get this camera out
so I can really do a few reviews
Bloody loads of crap
Wow that's really good
It's peanutty
chocolatey
It's like a set of Snickers
What a beauty
M&S done us proud once again
The wind's definitely coming a bit more south here now
This is terrible
I'm going to try and
swing in the general direction
What it says I'm on course
I can't believe that
70km's in now
Oh yeah
It's been a real test of this last bit
There's really
not many bumps
I'd like to finish it on my stuff foil
There we go
We're not far off
Woohoo
There we go
That's us almost done
Such a fun trip
So calm
Woo we're in
That was a long hard way
I think it took about
3 hours, 2018
Almost 80km's
But yeah incredible
What a day, such amazing conditions
Couldn't have asked for much more
I mean the end bit was a struggle but
All the rest was great
It's nice to have that
challenge at the end
Yeah so cool
Emma nailed it as always
Got some shots and
did the hardest job
looking after the baby
Oh yeah that is
the real reward
I've done the easy job, just had a couple of hours
out the house
You made it!
And the baby's asleep
You've really been the hero
I've had a good day
Thanks for taking me
It was a really good day
You loved it
Yeah it was so good, amazing run
The conditions were incredible
Was the forecast as you predicted?
I wasn't expecting it to rain
quite as much as that
But the wind was perfect
It wasn't crazy, it was just
really really good conditions
A bit washy
but it was good
There was loads of energy
It's good that the weather only closed in
once you were at the land as well
If I was out in the black
when it was at the end
I would have been like
How did this garment thing work?
I don't know
You kept telling me I was going wrong
I needed to be a bit more lax
The bumps looked amazing
Yeah they were
That spot where you were was so cool
There was that crazy tidal section
Yeah and it was so close to the beach
as well there
Did you see how much reverb there was?
Yeah it was nuts, it looked really really cool
Yeah it was good
You did so well
Big birthday send
For the journey
She loved the powering
onto the ship
No not as it was driving off
It was not
At the start we forgot the powering
I was like ringing her
ringing her
trying to get the powering
I was chatting to one of the stewards
I was like when are we going?
Because I had forgotten so
She was bringing it
We put the bridge up
and then she lobbed it
It's really hectic
