There are few artists who capture the public's imagination quite like Gertrude Abercrombie. With a complex and seemingly ambiguous lexicon she crafted comprehensive worlds and inner spaces and explored not only herself but questioned the viewer as well. Slightly askew, a bit strange but thoroughly engaging, her work has seen a resurgence in recent years with traveling retrospectives, newspaper articles and of course sensational auction records.

I was proud and excited to partner with Freeman's Auctions to conserve and prepare a seminal work by the painter for public auction. Though seemingly simple in both content and conservation, this paint was anything but.
